Bill Maher reveals that he is not a fan of Stan Lee. Bill Maher Tries to Clarify Stan Lee Remarks by Slamming the Value of Comic Books Bill Maher attempted to clarify his controversial remarks over Stan Lee's death, but he's only dug himself a deeper hole. Zack Sharf Nov 21, 2018 4:29 pm Bill Maher weighed in on the controversy surrounding his remarks over Stan Lee’s death by throwing even more shade at comic books and comic book movies. The HBO late night host appeared on “Larry King Now” and explained that he hadn’t been paying attention to the backlash since he “doesn’t follow every stupid thing people lose their shit about” on social media. Following Stan Lee’s passing earlier this month, Maher took to his “Real Time” blog on November 17 to criticize fans for idolizing Lee through tribute posts and essays. “The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning,” Maher wrote. “Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess. Someone on Reddit posted, ‘I’m so incredibly grateful I lived in a world that included Stan Lee.’ Personally, I’m grateful I lived in a world that included oxygen and trees, but to each his own.” Stan Lee’s team at POW! Entertainment responded to Maher’s blog post earlier this week, calling his remarks “disgusting.” The statement read, “Comic books, like all literature, are storytelling devices. When written well by great creators such as Stan Lee, they make us feel, make us think and teach us lessons that hopefully make us better human beings.” Maher clarified his post to King by saying he didn’t mean to “take a swipe at Stan Lee.” Maher said he was commenting on the culture at large as the Stan Lee tributes held comic books and comic book movies in a regard that Maher finds ridiculous. “I am agnostic on Stan Lee,” Maher said. “I don’t read comic books. I didn’t even read them when I was a child. What I was saying is, a culture that thinks that comic books and comic book movies are profound meditations on the human condition is a dumb fucking culture. And for people to get mad at that just proves my point.”

Those Stan Lee fans need to chill out. Everyone is entitled to his opinion except those who disagree with us. Pop culture seems to rule us these days. What did we do before such an influence? I don't know. I guess we actually lived a life back in the day. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016) Dogs have masters; Cats have staff.

Bill Maher obviously hasn't read any comic books, or he'd know that the medium of comic books has been on the forefront of social trends for decades. They've dealt with racism and prejudice, poverty, and what constitutes responsible use of power ever since I've been reading them (I began in the late 1970s). Maher may have a point about our society's fascination with comic book stories, but really needs to put some research into the issue before he shoots off about comic books in general. I read comics in the 1950s. Times were simpler then: it was Good versus Evil. No sex. Today, Superman has an illegitimate baby. That he didn't know about until Lois revealed her secret. So comics reflect the time the were written in. But I stopped reading comics in the 1960s. When I pick up a comic book or graphic novel today, it's really hard for me to get into them. The stories are no longer simple Good versus Evil.

Bill Maher needs to go. He is the Donald Trump of the left and it's embarrassing. He's oblivious, arrogant and condescending. He sticks his foot in his mouth often. Remember his use of the n-word not long ago? His audience is akin to the Trump base, mindlessly applauding his every utterance. Still, I watch his show regularly. He can be very funny, but sometimes I cringe. Just like someone else we all know. Though funny is not often used to describe that other guy. I'm reminded of the recent appearance of The Mooch, Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Director of Communications for like 1 week. Maher prides himself on welcoming guests with opposing views, the Mooch being one such person. However, I cringed during his appearance. The Mooch seemed a bit reticent every time he was interrupted by Maher and his panel the moment he started to say something. He sat back and let the bullies beat him up. Regardless of what anyone thinks of his views, they are thoughtful and he should at least be allowed to express them. But don't get me started -).
