Image only sites vs everything else: prices.

I see that porn site prices are on the rise and I also see that sites that are dedicated to hi-res photography are being priced up there with the all the other sites and I want to know if you think that photography only sites are worth the $29.99 and up prices that they charge you or do you think these sites are insane?

Personally, I couldn't see myself paying $30.00 for images, ever, no matter the size or quality, all in all, you are paying for images to sit in a folder and occasionally on your desktop, now don't get me wrong, I collect images but I have never paid to get images, well I joined JSex Network but for images and video, so I am not downing image collectors at all, I am only asking are pics worth paying for.

Thanks 4 Reading,
Michael.

There's no intrinsic worth of either pics or videos. It's a values question and the answer will depend on the individual. To me, they are worth paying for. I don't think it's "insane" to charge $30 for a really high-quality photos-only site, though like everyone else I'd course prefer paying less. I'd certainly not pay that much for a site month-to-month, no matter whether it was pics, videos, or half-and-half.

Regarding what sits in a folder or on the desktop, that's pretty much everything, isn't it? (And if you want to get technical about it, everything content-wise sits in a folder, as there is a desktop folder, too.) I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. I'm more into pix than vids. Pix are much easier to collect, for a variety of reasons. Do I like paying $30 for a site? Of course, I'd much rather pay a lower price. But using PU/TBP and other sources, you can often get a lower price than what is listed at the site itself.

For softcore, the vids offered are usually much less interesting than the pix. For hardcore, the pix are usually much lower in quality than what is offered at the softcore sites, and are barely worth looking at.

I personally have not noticed that site prices are on the rise. My impression is that, with discounts, more sites are actually dropping their prices.

If I appreciate something to be of quality & on topic for my preferences, I have no qualms about paying a premium for it, in the hope that more will be produced in a similar quality & theme.

Of course I want a bargain, but it has to be commercially viable for the supply chain too! ;0) Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award

I never know quite what to think when topics like this come up over what the value is of porn material.

Take a typical photography only site that updates once a day, each photoset costs around a total of $300 to create, pay the model, travel costs, photography equipment, assistants, makeup, and the time involved with photoshop to put out the final release.

That website in one month puts out about $10,000 in expenses and charges you just $29.99, of which 50% goes to the referrer, 15% goes to the bill processing company, 10% goes to server & bandwidth costs. They put out $10k and receive back $7 from customers.

What price should they charge? They need to charge what creates a balance between cost and revenue to at least cover their expenses.

30.00 USD is cheap for a month's access to any large archive of high quality pictures. By large I mean at least 20K pics. Even with less than 20K pictures, 30 bucks is still a drop in the bucket compared to how it was before the Internet, when a single magazine with a handful of pics could run you six or seven dollars. And out of those handful of pics you were lucky to get a few sterling shots that hit the spot. In regard to sites - even pic-only sites - that offer in the area of 100,000 pics (a few, like ATK and Karups, contain numbers that dwarf that), you are lucky to get access for thirty dollars, if that's something that interests you. Obviously, if you're not into photos, then no pic-only site is worth the money. I can't stand rap music, so a site that let me download rap music unlimited for a dollar would still be a waste of one dollar - for me.

To borrow Exotics4me's expression again: we are porn-rich nowadays, at least most of us here at PU, and we have become jaded by the vast amount of material and the variety of choices the Net provides. Maybe the younger crowds who have grown up with the Net can't fully appreciate how different things were in ye olde dayes.

When it comes to video, in that area we are more than porn rich. We are filthy rich. Look at a site like JSexNet. Their 31 Maria Ozawa vids alone, if purchased as single full-length DVD's, would run you into the hundreds of dollars; and that's only a mere fraction of the full-length videos on offer there, not to mention pics.

Of course, there are a truckload of crappy sites out there who really do want to take your money and give you as little as possible, but thanks to sites like this, we can learn to avoid them. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Edited on Nov 14, 2009, 07:13pm

Thanks JustMe and WeeWillyWinky for two very impressive replies on this thread. My own verbal abilities are at a low at the moment; they're still swirling around in my first cup of coffee. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Thanks for your responses folks, I do appreciate your time and words, I guess I am just at a point where I have so much damn porn that I have hit a brick wall, and as far as images go, I have about 30GB of Suicide Girls..... well had, I cut that down to about 5GB thanks to photo sets I didn't really care for, I think I am more put back by the fact of new sites without much content trying to get $30 from folks, even sites that have videos from OLD ass sites like "It's your porn"(videos from this site have been recycled a million damn times, it's quite staggering).

I guess I am just tired.

I don't necessarily agree that porn prices are on the rise, I think they've fallen over the last year or so if you were to look at the number of special discounts and full access trials listed at TBP. However, regardless of pricing, I would say that I'm also a pic person and I don't have a real problem justifying $30 for a HQ photo site since I tend to mostly keep the pics from the lesser sites anyways.

I look at it this way: if a site is pushing it's photos as the primary sales focus, then it's probably pretty good. Most sites try and toss out how many billions of pics they as an afterthought after 6 tour pages focused on the videos. The photos that most sites offer either lack in quality, size or quantity or, usually, some combination of these three. If a site pushes it's pics that tells me that it's run by someone who actually knows that the hell they're doing with a camera, that the quality will be good and the size will be great. Thus, given our porn rich PU world, I'm more than happy to pay for the prime rib versus the huge trough of gruel that the rest of the world feeds at.

My only concern is that I would expect some sites to be charging more for their hi-rez pics in the future like some sites charge more for their HD vids. That would be a major bummer in my book.

I doubt it would concern me as I wouldn't be buying into that.
If an image is crisp and fills my screen, that is all I want.
An image around 2000pixels long side is fine for me.

As others have said, it's a question of what you're interested in. If you're burned out on looking at porn, then everything is over-priced because you're not interested in paying anything.

If you find HQ pics exciting, and a particular site's pics are particularly exciting, then their price might be well worth it if they've got deep archives and a good rate of updating.

There are plenty of cheap sites that have really poor quality material, virtually of which has been licensed by the biggest porn producers, virtually all of which has been seen by anybody that has spent 10 minutes trolling for porn on the internet.

The added value of the HQ pic sites is their exclusivity - their stuff is rarely licensed and posted elsewhere, so it's new and fresh.

And of course, there's no point in spending $.02 for it, never mind $29.95, if you're not interested in it.

I should add, though, that there is no reason to have to pay $29.95 for most sites - Met Art has a deal of $99 for 1 year and it's the most consistently updated arty pic site with incredibly deep archives - or you can get their 3 related sites all together for $199.95/year if you're really an arty pic junkie - W4B or whatever it's called has a deal of $59.95 for 3 months - Femjoy has frequent promotions throughout the year, etc Edited on Dec 10, 2009, 07:12am
