Wait - Alyssa Milano isn't a porn star?

On a disturbing note, go watch "Commando" and then realize the cute, innocent, little daughter becomes the spectacle known today as Alyssa Milano.

Though - biker's suggestion brings up an issue I've been pondering lately - why is it that live action porn doesn't approach the various nifty plot devices that Hentai uses frequently? Magic, demons, ten - ta - cle sex??? I mean come now! I'd pay to see these things!

Granted I want animatronic puppets that the people can react to, not bad CGI that flickers and bounces separately from the rest of the set - if it works for the 80's it can work now! (Check out "Predator" and then "Aliens vs Predator - Requiem" for examples of how well it works, despite decades separating the two.) "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Damnit, when I saw this thread I said to myself: "Self, someone, at some point, will suggest Miss Piggy. On that day, we'll all shake our collective heads and grimace."

Speaking of which, what about Grimace and the rest of the McDonald's gang? As has been pointed out before, there is something uniquely fascinating and disturbing about copulation administered by people in large mascot suits, no matter what creature or object the mascot represents.

Oh, and "the two old men in the box" already sounds like a porn title by itself. One of those titles that makes me involuntarily suck in air with a hiss and quickly change direction away from the foul contrivance that bears the offending moniker. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I gotta say, that quote of yours always cracks me up every time I accidentally read it. I usually try to ignore the signatures unless I'm bored. I'm horrible at doing two things at once, so if I get distracted, sometimes I forget where I was in the reading of the thread. Silly, but sadly true.

To keep track of what is using how much of my hard drive space, I rely heavily on a lovely little program called "Scanner". It is freeware and developed by a chap from Germany:

http://www.steffengerlach.de/freeware/

The little bugger makes interactive pie charts of your hard drives - you can have it show you all the drives together, or look at individual drives, individual folders and so on. It will even let you delete files or open directories directly. It isn't something I use daily, but I keep it on the desktop (it can run as single, solitary executable file) and scan the drives when I seem to be running low on space (damn those temp folders!) or if I want to just check and see how much porn is in the archive at the present time (274 GB? lovely). I think I would go so far as to call this program exceptionally nifty. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

My general policy towards sites like that is I believe in TANSTAAFL and run away from it like it is a catapulted cow.

Ah, so you meant store bought lubricants were better aesthetically - I'm sorry, I had interpreted the post as saying saliva was quite less than harmless. Well, never mind then!

I think Porn Users should band together, purchase an Airship and fly it on an epic adventure around the world - dropping pro-porn pamphlets on the unenlightened masses below to guide them to their home away from home: 66.115.137.185

I'm pretty sure we'd end up stranded on an uncharted island full of giant insects and dinosaurs, but hey, that would be something to write home about!

I must say that I do not entirely trust the lubricant manufacturers to know what they are doing or that their products are definitely better. Granted, they are intended for the purpose of lubricating sexual acts, but there has been some suspicion that some of the water-based lubricants can cause yeast infections if used in the vaginal cavity (due to the sugar-based part of the ingredients). We must not forget that DDT was loved for many years and people were actually spraying down their children directly with the pesticide to protect them from those nasty, nasty Mosquitoes. Later research showed how far trust was misplaced in that wonder chemical.

While one can certainly argue the social negatives of saliva being used as a sexual lubricant - but on the technical side it should work just fine. It is 98% water and then electrolytes, mucus (which is why many people prefer it), antibacterial compounds (the reason why your mouth heals so fast, other than the copious blood flow in the area) and, yes, enzymes. Unless your sexual partner is mostly starch based, they should have no negative effects from the enzymes in question.

I can't claim to be an expert on the subject - this is based on quick Wikipedia research - but I would say that Saliva, is just as good a lubricant (and argued by Princess Donna of Kink.com as the best) as the for-sale competition. Granted, there is always a disease transfer factor, (Hepatitis and TB easily transfer this way) but if you are worried about getting that from your partner, I'd recommend not copulating with them all together. Spit has been used as a sexual aid probably since the dawn of humans. That doesn't mean it is the best, but we aren't extinct, so I doubt it is all that harmful.

Personally, I haven't any issue with the spitting - but I do think that content providers sometimes forget how much the tone of a scene can be changed by that one, simple act. It can move a quiet and mild hardcore scene to Gonzo in one split second.

But, let me end by quoting the movie Quills:

"Conversation, like certain portions of the anatomy, always runs more smoothly when lubricated."

So here's to alcohol and the other great lubricants of the world - natural and artificial alike! "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

From the other side of the question, as to the feelings of the former East Germans themselves; and mr smut will have to correct me if this is wrong as a generalization; but I knew one former East German very well (she was my brother's girlfriend for quite a few years) and she was very keen on distancing herself from anything communist and Russian. She was taught Russian in school, but would never speak it, even on request out of curiosity. She always wanted to make clear that she and her family had zero ties with communism or the like. If this was tied to dislike of communism or fear of ostracism - I do not know.

Interestingly, she had no fear of discussion of Nazism and felt very far removed from that. My brother was a bit upset when I asked her to translate what some of the Nazi guards were yelling in Wolfenstein 3-D (yeah, the game was current at the time), but she wasn't bothered and happily translated it. (They were yelling about medics and airports - I guess "airport" sounded cool to the guys at id.) "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Yeah - I got that impression from it a bit, but I was there primarily for the show - which was wildly impressive, freaking huge. People that go to CES and think they've been to an electronics fair just haven't had the same experience. The sheer vastness of CeBit is staggering. Though a bit tiring, 2 or 3 days is plenty - the full time is not worth it. I'd hate to work at one of the booths though.

Anyway, yeah, Hannover... fair grounds and zoo. Amusingly, the location for the State Fair Grounds in New York State has similar qualities. Syracuse has fair grounds, a zoo and a very large mall. Unless you are a local, you aren't going to find a lot of exciting things to do. Well, there are strip clubs, but Hannover had those as well. I didn't stop by - perhaps if I had a local with me that would have been another matter. Though I was amused that there was a McDonald's straight across the street from a strip club, that would not go down well over hear in ye old conservative USA.

The currywurst looks great as well - I love curry in general - and combine that with sausage, well why not?

I really really wanna visit Berlin - and München would be sweet as well, especially since I can get my friend to be a bit of a tour guide. Plus he said I could sleep on the floor, no prob. Yay for saving money (not that the hostels are very expensive, but meh, gotta save cash when ya can). But Berlin sounds sweet - I'd choose that over Paris any day. Actually, never really interested in seeing Paris - I'd rather visit Marseilles. I know it is supposed to be dangerous, but after watching all those french "Taxi" movies it looks awesome and sunny. As an aside, and being too lazy to Google at the moment, what does "Fear the Pilcrow" in Toadsith's tag line refer to?

Howler monkeys do rule, and if memory serves me right, they are the loudest land based animal in the world. Whales are louder.

Ah the Pilcrow - that stems from me researching special characters after Khan used a section sign (§) when referring to 18 U.S.C. § 2251. Via the research I found out that this symbol: is called the Pilcrow. I was so very amused by this that I decided to share my revelation in a rather ambiguous and mysterious way via the statement you've noticed in my signature. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

What is a bank holiday? And you said parts - it isn't a national holiday?

I've visited Germany once for Cebit in Hannover back in '06 - that is a hell of a fairgrounds. Checked with the tourism board for the city and the only thing they recommended other than the fairgrounds, was the Zoo. And recommend it they did; copiously. I was there a week, so I did go to the zoo for a day; it is a hell of a zoo - some of the exhibits look like sets from Raiders of the Lost Arc.

I'll have to visit again one of these days; a friend of mine lives outside of Munich, and my brother lived in Berlin for a year and is itching to go back, for the donar kabobs I think might be reason #1 - lol "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I think that stems from the same reason people in other forums choose Cars or Computers or whatever to represent them. In this forum people admire women, so they are choosing the woman they admire most as an example of their tastes.

I picked mine, because frankly I didn't feel like drawing a photo of myself, plus for the previous reasons mentioned and because Patrick McGoohan is a very cool dude in my opinion. Choice #2 would be Patrick McNee from the Avengers - but I decided I preferred McGoohan's serious expression better.

I must admit though, choosing a female as one's avatar when one is a male can make the gender identity thing quite confusing for the other users at first. To each's own, they say. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Agreed :-) More likely than not, mutts will end up being a friendlyish, smartish dog - that's what made my parents current dog such a surprise. She is wildly smart, but insanely frustrating at times because she chooses what she wants to obey depending on her mood and whatnot. Exercise the hell out of her and she'll do whatever you want. But if she has a lot of energy, she gets very distracted and just wanders off to do her thing. Besides the fact that she looks incredibly similar to those Turkish dogs (and is in the proper weight range for the bitches, though on the small edge), that temperament is something they are known for. (That, and her aggressiveness and hole digging) Apparently they are considered difficult dogs and only for good trainers, which thankfully my father is, being a trained behavioral psychologist (though those guys spend more time with rats usually).

Though she doesn't fancy the game of fetch at all, which is annoying, because, as you said - the frisbee game really is wonderful, such an easy way to exercise a dog - and gets you very good at throwing them too - in the absence of wind (which can screw your shot) I could launch a frisbee the length a couple hundred yards with out much trouble. Usually could aim and hit a tree from that distance as well. I'm sure I'm no where near that good anymore. What they really need to make are Kevlar Aerobies, then you could send your dog out half a mile with one throw, lol "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

That's great to hear - Hip dysplasia is a nasty thing for a dog to have to live with. That is the third reason that my family always gets mutts, since it is almost exclusively the pure bred dogs that get it. Reasons two and one would be cheapness and saving a dog from euthanasia, respectively.

Anyway - I agree with your choice, German Shepards are lovely dogs. Super trainable, friendly with kids, and nicely protective of your property. As a kid, my family had a German Shepard / Border Collie / something else, mutt thing - she was great - insanely trainable. She would actually do self training, oft called superstitious learning, so that she had specific routes that she decided she had to follow in various areas of the home. She weighed in at 45 lbs, she looked like a small German Shepard with normal size Shepard ears - quite goofy looking. Not the most stamina, but that dog was the fastest dog I've ever had contact with - ran across snow so quickly that she wouldn't leave tracks, just a shallow rut of disturbed snow. Also was a nervous wreck from any loud noise and not surprisingly died of a heart-attack.

My parents current dog is basically the antonym of that one - a Lab / Kangal (or Anatolian Shepard) mix (I think) - 90 lbs, and entirely energy conservative. I'm pretty sure there is a painting of her in some attic somewhere, as she looks almost the same as she did when she was 6 months old. I wish I had a residence that was suited for a dog, but an apartment just isn't a good place for a dog to be - they need roaming space. Be it to chase frisbees or dig holes or whatever. I wondered when or if a thread like this would come up, and I'm happy it did.

Mine is a hand rendered version of the famous shot of Patrick McGoohan driving a Lotus 7 in the intro of "The Prisoner", a British television show from 1967-68. I simply didn't bother with the steering wheel as it didn't really apply. I drew it using my new-ish Wacom tablet in Photoshop. It is PNG format so I don't have to worry about what background the avatar is shown on.

Besides being a big fan the show, I also felt that its premise was particularly fitting to this industry and the challenges it faces. The slogan and oft repeated line in the show was "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!". Frankly, the message of the show is even more powerful today than it was 40 years ago - as more and more civil liberties seem to be falling to make way for legislation that will make safe from those evil terrorists hiding under our beds and in our closets. I say three cheers for Freedom and all the dangers it brings with it!

Lets hope porn remains uncensored for years to come :-)

Now, other users' avatars I'm curious about:
pat362 - that woman is sooo familiar, I know I've seen her before - but I can't place her. A 60's sci-fi show or movie I'm guessing.

nygiants03 - UFC? Is that Ultimate Fighting Championship?

JBDICK - that woman is quite curious looking, who is that?

I'm also curious as to why some people don't have an avatar. I'll extend my offer again - if you want assistance in creating an avatar, I'd be happy to help. Feel free to email me directly (through the site, just lick on my username) or make a post here. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

"Tolerance" is certainly the the word of choice in the current socio-political atmosphere and I think it conveys an attitude that people are comfortable with that I am not. "Acceptance" would be the word I think the public forum should be looking for. For tolerance is saying that people's behavior needs an exemption to be allowed. It isn't the norm, but it is tolerated. Just how raccoons are tolerated in many suburbs - tolerated but not welcome.

And to answer your question, of course it would change my viewpoint of any person to some degree. If, as you stated, they were a person I held in the highest regard prior to said revelation, then knowledge of their profession would not change my regard of them. Some topics of conversation would probably be unlocked, but I'd still see them as an interesting individual whose opinion respect and care about. The same goes if they were outed as an assassin or another similarly taboo profession. Only revelations that revealed that their entire opinions that were presented to me were a ruse would upset me. Like finding out that a close acquaintance was a member of the KKK or a similarly vile organization.

But porn or prostitution? That is innocent enough, sex is a lovely thing. If someone enjoys an occupation that trades in it, I applaud them for having the constitution to go against the "moral majority" (ugh, I know) and pursue their passion. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Not as of yet, which is in some ways unfortunate because I'd love to know more about the industry from the inside perspective. I personally have absolutely no issues with anyone pursuing an occupation in the Adult Entertainment industry. I do know it tends to attract a larger percentage of people with various domestic problems, which is unfortunate, but I don't think the industry itself causes any of these problems directly. It might enable them a bit, but many professions do that to many problems. I read about an alcoholic that was bringing home lab-grade, pure alcohol with her every night in a gallon jug.

So I guess the main approach for me would be to try to talk openly with the person about it in an effort to find out the origin of the decision. If they are just spicing up their life and having a great time, I'd support them whole heartedly. If they are just trying to make ends meet and are a bit or even very ashamed about it - then I'd try to help point them in a different direction. I see no reason to pussyfoot around the subject once it has been discovered - that just hurts both parties and delays and resolution. Plus, anyone entering the industry has to have considered, at some level, the possibility of friends or family discovering their new occupation. So I'd be amazed if they were entirely unprepared for the resulting conversation. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Indeed, the close-ups have gotten out of hand. I don't like to see a scene or set with close-ups entirely absent from it, but I do feel like they should be used as an exclamation or accent - not as the main dish.

Much of this was actually discussed before in the following thread:

I'm Ready For My Closeup Mr. DeMille

That is really too bad; I know he sometimes got easily upset, but I did like his commentary and input. It is always unfortunate to see a regular member disable their account. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I would guess that a number of sites edit the video with Adobe® Premier®. I don't know that from any specific statement of such, but it is an extremely powerful professional video editing program that isn't all that expensive, as in, under $1000. I do know that for photos Adobe® Photoshop® is by far the most dominate editing program on the market, so it would make sense for the companies to buy the two together - like with the Master Collection, for example. That is true, I hadn't thought of that. The anonymity provided by performing in a costume must have its appeal.

This is an open forum, Dearest. If you wanted to make a format suggestion to just the Porn Users staff, then please send them an email directly. I have done so many times and they are very appreciative of suggestions and will respond as quickly as they can.

However, by posting the topic as a new thread, it presents the appearance of an interest in debate on the subject; inviting other users to weigh in on the pros and cons of the suggested change. My point is that by merely posting the thread, the understanding is you are implicitly asking myself and every other user that reads the thread to comment upon said thread.

An advantage of using the forum is also the creation of ideas stemmed from other ideas. I had never really remembered to email the Porn Users staff about the Edit Reason self-filling line suggestion - which I think would be a nice little time saver. Who knows what other recommendations or thoughts other users will have on the subject? Just because I do not believe it is important to remove the edited message from quickly edited posts, does not mean others will also not agree with you.

Basically, there isn't any reason to go on the defensive so quickly - I wasn't attacking you directly, I was just commenting on the presented subject. I think it has been well established that I am quite opinionated, no real news there. I mean no affront to anyone - I'm just adding my thoughts on the subjects addressed in the forum for better or for worse (to use the horribly over-used cliché). "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Eh, I see no specific reason to hide the information. Trivial as the editing of typos may be it is simple enough to annotate the reason for the edit.

However, I would love for the site to fill in the Edit Reason line with the last thing I wrote in for a message I had edited previously. On particularly verbose entries, it sometimes takes me several tries to weed out all of the typos and grammatical errors. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Though the prostitution angle brings up an interesting side that I hadn't thought about. Some, perhaps even much, of the clothing featured in today's mainstream porn was featured on Hollywood's renderings of Hookers quite far back. That in and of itself points to a possible origin of the Porn Star style - the creative minds at Hollywood and their stylized hookers influencing porn and strip clubs. What think thee of that origin? Yay or nay? "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Looking back at porn over the years, a strange change happened rather recently in the big porn explosion of DVD and Internet porn. Porn Stars stopped dressing like normal people or celebrities and started dressing exclusively in an absurd, over-sexed style that can only be purchased at specialty shops that cater to that market.

It ranges from the raised heeled sandals with the excessively thick soles to the pink fishnet stockings and the mini skirts that could be mistaken for a belt. In the 70's, 80's and even the 90's - much of what Porn Stars started the scene wearing could be worn out in public with out being arrested or people jokingly remarking that the wearer looks like they should be doing porn. They certainly dressed sexily, but it was as a woman might dress to impress her date either in the club or in the bedroom (in the case of lingerie). Even the lingerie of current porn wouldn't be touched by many women as it projects a level of "slut" that they aren't comfortable with.

Older porn was a product of its time, the hair styles and clothing choices were very much in tune with what was hip at that moment. The models were often made up to look as though they had just walked off the set of a music video or some other pop-culture venue. These days, the models would look out of place anywhere other than strip clubs and porn sets. Their style is almost time-less, out of touch with reality completely. Granted this doesn't apply to male porn stars as much nor does it apply for the amateur market either. But the amateur market also forbids dressing the girls up beyond make-up and hair - they wear basic street clothes, as though they were going out to the supermarket. (Abby Winters, for example, specifically states that they avoid any shape or form of Glamour if they can.) Now granted for a few years Britney Spears made a career out of being a Pop Star that dressed like a Porn Star - but Janet Jackson tried her hand at it at the Super Bowl and got shut down so fast that it must have made her head spin.

So what happened to the producers of main stream porn, is that community so close knit, so self-involved that it has forgotten about the Pop Culture surrounding it? How did this trend start and gain so much momentum? It has spread across the world like a wild-fire. Deviations from the base style are few and far between.

It is a curious phenomena - and while I appreciate the porn style - it does sexualize the models with great efficiency - I would appreciate the clothing styles chosen by hollywood celebrities as well. A red carpet wardrobe, if you will.

Any thoughts on the origins, continuation or the simple existence of Fashion Du Porn Star? "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Indeed Christy Canyon is and was something else - and she has continued in porn as well as an icon. So I would say she fits my above requirements for being described as "born to be a Porn Star". She is really something else; bodies like that don't come along too often. The scary thing is she still looks absolutely stunning today. Some people are blessed with amazing genetics.

Well, to answer your question I'll quote the great and mighty Wikipedia:

In the sexual spoons position, the penetrative partner lies on their side, with their knees bent. The receptive partner lies on their side, with their back pressed against the penetrative partner's front. It may be used for vaginal or anal penetration.

See Example Image Here:

When seen in porn, it is typically modified so the female cocks her top leg up and out of the way so the camera can get a good view of the penetration. It isn't a wildly common position to see in porn due to that requirement and because it doesn't offer a lot of movement, though the camera does get a full view of the female's body. Shemales are an interesting fetish. I usually only take a gander when I see the content is a shemale with a female, that way it is just like a super-realistic strap-on. The main problem I run into, however, is that there seems to be a serious amount of leniency given to the attractiveness of the shemale models. Perhaps this is due to their rarity - I think the same is often true for midgets and dwarves as well. Shemales seem to often be victim to some of the worst breast jobs in history - an uneven keel doesn't even begin to describe it.

The only reliably attractive shemales I've seen were sites dedicated to "lady boys", and unfortunately, those sites are almost exclusively male and shemale scenes. The problem with those scenes is that when the camera zooms in for the close up that is so popular in current porn (as discussed in a different thread) is that you end up with just standard gay porn - which never really turned me on, it just bores me. If a site pops up with "lady boys" working exclusively with females, that might be interesting. None-the-less, shemales is a niche that I'll check out in passing and don't actively search for. If it is included in a network, I'll look, but I usually find the content to be sub par and not worth downloading. That said, I did actually grab a few handfuls of scenes from 21Sextury's Network site, Baby Got Balls - so some good content does exist, it just isn't plentiful in my opinion. To be honest, much like the new Abby Winters setup, I'm very confused about why MET Art break apart and spawned its kin. It seems very complex, they have this suite of sites that they keep asking me to join. (I'm still on the mailing list, after all these years. Guess I just like looking at the pretty pictures.)

MET Art, Errotica Archives, MET Models - the content looks to all be very similar and they recommend joining all three at once. So why not just make it one site?

I must say though, even when I was a member, was many years ago now, the Most Erotic Teen stuff was already slowly being removed. Classified as not large enough images I guess. I do enjoy the large images, but I like when sites have history and I think they shouldn't be ashamed by their past. Oh well, I guess not everyone shares that opinion. Sweet! I'd be happy to take part in a contest!

I'm actually quite glad to see Karup and Drooler "shaking hands" and putting this behind them. After following this thread from the beginning and seeing Karup's messages and more back and forth, it really seems that both sides had the best of intentions and each their own code-of-honor that just managed to clash in a most unfortunate way.

I'm also glad that Karup isn't being ostracized as I worry that would make other webmasters afraid that they'll be ripped to shreds and hung out to dry by the PU community, and thus not post or reply to threads. This forum is a wonderful opportunity for direct communication between the users and the webmasters in an "open forum" setting. It would be a tragedy if we scared off all the industry people when the forum is still so young.

People need to understand that so much of this industry is governed opinion and individual tastes. I really respect when people stick to their guns and try to explain again and again why they believe their ideas are right. I've become known a bit for being verbose (perhaps even overly so) however I feel the more thoroughly that a topic is discussed, the better understand we can all get from it. There are few ways better to learn about a subject than to try to explain it as completely as possible. Perhaps opinions will be changed and perhaps not - but everybody will end up with a better glimpse into the view point of the other party. As a community we need to understand that everyone will have some opinion of there own that'll be like a brick wall, unchangeable. That shouldn't dissuade us from asking them to explain it better. You never know, perhaps you'll end up agreeing with them.

I was extremely pleased to see the interchange between JBDICK and Karup as that, for me, is the ideal use of the forums. I love getting a better understanding of the perspective of people in the industry - no matter what the job title is. I really respect Kink for their website Behind Kink, it is fascinating and I would absolutely adore for more sites to follow suit.

I'm a big nerd for technical, documentary-style behind-the-scenes videos or articles. Anytime I ran across a DVD with a behind-the-scenes I watched it - often before I even watched the main content. I also read every article Abby Winters had online about how they did their stuff. As an amateur photographer, I especially enjoyed the articles about what equipment and techniques they were using for their photo shoots.

So webmasters and industry types - Welcome one and all! "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Did you guys know this § is officially called the "section sign"? Two of them, like so §§, is a plural, for referring to multiple sections. I'd known approximately what it meant but never bothered to look it up. I thought I'd share that tidbit of info with the community.

Btw, it (§) also moonlights as the symbol for currency simoleon in the Sim City games. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I hadn't replied directly to the question this thread posed, so here goes.

In the realm of photos, yes - I am a fan of close-ups. As has been pointed out, the unmentionables are unique to each model, and are quite beautiful in their own right. However, I do not want a photo set without some diversity - there's more to a model than just her crotch. I like ATK, Abby Winters, MET Art (or Met Art as Porn Users spells despite it being an abbreviation not a name), Simon Scans and so on - as they focus on the full body of the model just as much, or in many cases more than the crotch. Though I do feel like I haven't gotten my money's worth if I don't get a few good solid peeks down there - so I like close-ups, but I don't want that to be the whole show.

As for video - I'm less of a fan of that style. I want to see the model's face much of the time as I like to pretend that she is getting off as much as she acts like she is. I can't get that feeling from watching a some throbbing holes. Sure, no questions about the bees and birds from that type of camera work, but it isn't exactly interesting either. I'm actually rather fond of the extreme sites I recently signed up with - Facial Abuse and its sister sites, as they focus on the models face quite a bit. In their case they want the model to look ashamed and upset, but still, they have the right idea in mind for the camera work. It's gritty but their heart's in the right place, lol

So, to wrap this up, I like close-ups and I don't want them to go away, but I think they should be used sparingly, sort of like an exclamation point: very useful when needed, but it gets boring if you end every sentence with it. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I think what littlejoe is referring to is the style of close up where the camera will be a few inches away from the model's crotch, with said crotch in focus, but you can see the model's face peering down at the camera. Generally the model will be out of focus as the aperture has to be pretty wide open for easy to make out details when exploring the crotch area. Unless they decide to light the scene with arc welders.

Very true, I don't worry about price in my reviews, and the general assumption of the community is that the review's score doesn't count the price. So yes - please do mention if that is changing your score.

Frankly, I don't understand the hubbub in another thread where people are worried about doing reviews of sites with complimentary membership passes if they don't factor in the price to their score anyway. You know, after watching Insatiable again, this time listening to the audio commentary track provided by Gloria Leonard - I have a "Next Big Thing in Porn" that I would like to see. This is more of a wish and a plea to the current producers.

Now that HD Video has matched, even exceeded film (certainly 8 or 16mm) in clarity and color accuracy: Let's bring back high quality cinematography. Start playing around with aperture settings again, soft focuses, back lighting interesting shadows, natural lighting - the works! Let's reintroduce the art of film making to porn again. I'd like to see external setup shots, or the couple relaxing in the sunset and all that sappy jazz that makes for the difference between erotica and porn. Sure, you can make it hardcore and rough 'n tumble, drag-out sex - but good lighting will keep some of the fantasy and mystery to it. I don't need to be able to count the veins on the man's penis in every porn film. Let's also bring back different looking porn stars, the girls with definite flaws and lots of enthusiasm - they still exist, but they aren't given a chance to be in the films that take time to check the lighting before shooting. To be in that crowd the models need to be part of the aptly named "Stepford Sluts".

Old video technology made for easy distribution but killed much of the art of porn because video just couldn't handle it. Now it can, so the producers need to go hire some film students as cinematographers and bring back some plots and start making movies again that happen to have hardcore sex in them.

I think sites like Brazzers are showing that there are a few minds heading that way, but all they are doing is reintroducing fantasy with some plot and some acting. The camera work is still harshly lit and very direct - and quality control still has its issues. I don't like to see people wandering around in the house when the amorous couple are supposed to be alone. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

But thanks to you and especially Toadsith, who seems able to type comprehensibly at 110 wpm, 20 pages per sitting, a lot of ground has been covered already.

I've been tolerant and, wishing not to ruffle feathers, have not taken any reviewers to task for what seem to me to have been obvious omissions of points of fact. Hopefully this thread will serve as a "rising tide to lift all boats." Anyway, we'll see.

I know what you mean about not ruffling feathers, my general tactic is to simply keep replying to the review until I get all of the information I wanted out of the reviewer. I of course only bother to do this to sites I care about, but I like to think that reviewer will make a mental note of those questions and try to answer them the next time they do a review. This actually worked on me early on when ace of aces asked me if the reviews were available in a single file or not - I now include that data in all of my reviews.

I think a lot of people just write up the review on the fly and don't have much of a game-plan as to what needs to be covered. Hopefully this thread will serve to give them some good ideas. I doubt everybody will start doing "Toadsith Standardized Porn Reviews", lol Though that would be sweet - largely because I'd love to see a published book of those standards sold in college book stores across the country. If people just take a bit more time to collect a bit more information, I think their review qualities will start climbing rapidly.

Oh - btw, I only type at 70 wpm - but I have a secret weapon: I use the Dvorak keyboard layout, so I can type non-stop for hours on end without fatigue - it might not help the boredom factor if I tried a 10 hour typing shift, but me hands could do it :-)

For those that don't know, August Dvorak, distant relative of the famous composer, developed the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard in the 30's to replace QWERTY which was designed to separate common letters so the typing arms wouldn't jam. It is much less strain on the hands and is said to be faster, though I type at the same speed as I typed on QWERTY. The home row on a Dvorak keyboard goes like this: AOEU HTNS

Check it out on Wikipedia if you want to learn more. I recommend the layout for everyone. Every OS supports it and your hands don't get tired typing. I switched over about seven years ago already a very good typist in QWERTY and it took me about 4 months before my brain stopped switching into QWERTY occasionally mid-sentence. The interesting thing, is you can teach yourself to maintain both formats, now-a-days I have much difficulty typing in QWERTY, but I used to be able to switch back and forth with about 10 minutes of rough patches in between. Scoring is really difficult and I can hardly say I'm an expert at it - my skills set definitely lies in writing the review and not picking the number. However, my general rule of thumb is this: Anything above 90 I'm saying everybody should join at least once - it is that good. If the score is above 80, it has some definite flaws, but if you the content is to your liking, you are getting a pretty good deal for your money. If it is above 70 the site really needs to improve there may be some good content here but a lot needs to be fixed before this is worth the money. Anything below 70 just run away, take your money else where!

As for the difference between an 85 and an 87, eh - I dunno, I try to compare it to other sites I've scored and figure out a number, but honestly - a 5-star or 10-star rating system would be a hell of a lot easier than this 100 point system. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"
