Yes. When you first install the drive (before saving anything onto it) it *might* ask you to log in to the drive. If it does, that's the password protection and the only way around it is to select the reformat option. It's worth noting that if you use the password option and at some time (in the future, after using the drive) forget the password, then you would lose data as there is no way (even for WD) to retrieve the lost password. FWIW, once the drive is installed, it's an easy task to disable the password protection (if that's your desire). One more thing I'll mention ... in case you get one. The drive has the ability to be password protected. When I initially installed the drive, it wanted me to enter a password. I checked the docs and didn't find a default "admin" password so I called WD. It seems the drives were supposed to default to no password. However, some of the drives (for reasons the tech guy didn't know) defaulted to password protected. There is no default admin password so the only option is to "reformat" the drive. If that happens to you, don't sweat it. The "reformat" process takes only a minute or so and the software installed on the drive is NOT overwritten. So really, it's nothing to worry about if you get one of the drives that asks for a password on initial install. Just thought I'd mention it since you wouldn't be able to use the 800 phone number provided. As I mentioned in a recent thread I recently bought one of the WD 2TB drives. I've only had it a short while so can't comment on its reliability. One thing though, it installs some backup software that auto-runs w/every system boot. It appears to be a bit of a memory hog so if you're short of system resources, that might be a factor. Well, to be honest I sort of backed into working in the world of online porn. By that I mean I never actually planned to get into the biz. I had been working for the gov't for 15 years, having worked my way up from being a maintenance machinist to being a General Foreman in the Plant Maintenance division of an aircraft rework facility. Due to some political maneuvering by our former vice president (he was then head of DoD) the base where I was working was being closed. I had some health issues (thanks to the many hazardous materials I'd been exposed to ... that the gov't refused to take credit for) that made working from home an attractive option. I'd been messing around with computers and online communication since the mid 80's. On an informal level, I'd been writing database applications, spreadsheets and setting a few companies up with BBS's. Given my skill set and my desire to work at home, I figured I'd try my hand at helping small businesses computerize some of their applications and get set up online. I got a small hosting account and set up a tiny web site (just a few rough pages). Well, I got a few jobs by word-of-mouth from past businesses I'd helped but the web site wasn't doing squat. I decided to set up a little pin-up site to help drive a little traffic to my business site. Back then people didn't know what they do today about targeted traffic. In those days, you got your links out any place you could. Since I managed forums for CompuServe I set up the girlie pics site on AOL so as not to shit where I ate. Just a few pages of pics with links to the business site. Since AOL didn't allow nudes it was all non-nude. The business part still didn't do much but the adult site started doing pretty good. I decided to expand to nude photos so that meant switching to another hosting company. The first few months the site grew as did the traffic it saw. I started exchanging links with other adult sites and soon found myself at the original (and what was then the only) adult webmaster resource. It just so happens that the resource was founded by our fearless leader Rick. I started helping Rick manage his fast growing webmaster resource and we found it was a good fit. My focus shifted from running my sites to helping him build a top-notch adult online resource. Since I ran CompuServe's forum for new members for several years I had experience helping newbies which worked out well since the industry was growing fast and each passing week brought a flood of new webmasters looking to try their hand at starting adult sites. Add to that the ongoing discussions and debates (often quite heated) that were, in effect, shaping this industry. So you see, without ever planning to be in the adult online industry, I found myself in the middle of what was virtually ground zero for the adult web explosion that followed. Just a heads up that it may take a little while for this one. We had one of his sites listed at one time but pulled it when we had issues with some of their join page options and methods a few years back. The TBP Editors put this one on their list to recheck but won't add another of his sites until they can be sure we won't see the same kind of stuff on this new site. Yeah, there's a good chance that this one (and others like it) are just a sneaky way to get a link posted. We screen a lot of obvious spam post that you guys never have to see. We allow some of these "who is this" types through on the off chance that they're legit new users seeking info. If they're one-off spams then they'll die a natural death when they're not responded to. If there ever gets to be so many that it's causing a problem, we'll rethink allowing them. Well, I usually try to stay out of the ongoing discussions here but because of my unique perspective (I've been in the business a pretty long time) I feel I can offer some historical perspective to the use of the term "amateur" w/in the online porn industry. Now, I'll preface this by saying I'm not posting to curtail further debate of the subject nor do I expect anyone here will like the explanation. But, if nothing else, it'll let you be privy to some historical info about the industries early days. So, without further ado ... I'd like to take you back in the early days of online porn ... and I'm talking the *really* early days here ... back long before the first tube site ... even long before the first TGP ... back when no pay site had recurring billing and the earliest top-lists were just starting (the list were made by posting daily server stats) ... so again, we're talking the infancy days of online porn sites. Well, back then most solo model sites were for established porn stars. I'm talking models who'd been in full length porn videos. But there were also a few enterprising sites that didn't fall into that category though they were still (mostly) solo models. In some cases they were folks living the "swinging" lifestyle. In other cases they were some local hottie who had a site set up. Maybe it was a free site but often times it was a pay site. Often it was a softcore "nudie" site but not always. And here's where your "amateur" term first comes in to play. If the model wasn't a professional porn star, they were considered an amateur ... and so categorized in whatever links list where they appeared. Over time, the term stuck and the use of the term "amateur" got further blurred by different uses but to a great extent, the original "definition" still carries over. Anyway, now you know why so many solo sites are called amateur sites even though the model may have been doing this for years. You might not agree with the term, but at least now you know. I think you'll find that's the norm with whatever you're talking about. As grandpa used to say, "If everyone liked the same thing, they'd just make vanilla ice cream." I recently bought a Western Digital 2TB external but haven't used it enough to form much of an opinion. I did notice it tries to be too smart for its own good (my opinion) but that has nothing to do with the drive's reliability. Well, at one time we had that site listed. As best I can tell from the records, there was some problems we needed to contact the site owners about but, despite repeated attempts, we received no reply. So, we de-listed the site. If you re-read Monahan's post above (#86) it should help you understand how DRM impacts how you can use the content you download. As mentioned, there are any number of ways for sites to use DRM, however, the example he gave is the one most often experienced for porn downloads. Sites that are dead and gone or no longer accepting new members are de-listed. Sites that are simply no longer updating are still eligible to be listed, however, if we know they're no longer updating we make a note of it on the official TBP listing page for the site. trannyfrombrazil.com we did have listed unlil the middle of last month. The record shows the listing was deactivated because the join page was disabled. I also note the join page for that site carries another URL at the top of the page (not that pages URL) ... LadyBoysAndTrannies.com ... which we also list. I've asked the TBP Editors to take a look at this one and the other two you mentioned.
