Alice in Wonderland zooms to the top of the box office. On Friday, opening day, Alice took in an estimated $41 million. Current estimate for the weekend is $110 million. That would make Alice a box office winner, by any standards. I said in a previous post that critics' reviews of the movie were not impressive. But the box office numbers certainly are. Many people, apparently, pay little attention to the critics when picking their movies.

Critics reviews for Alice in Wonderland are not very impressive. That's a shame. But the visuals of Alice look impressive to me.

Iran appears to be a worse place to be a movie maker than the bible belt. And if you back a political candidate, make sure you back the winner. >>>>>>> <<<<<<< Iran detains director Panahi: opposition website (Reuters) Source: Reuters Tue Mar 02, 2010, 3:22 am EST TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian security forces have detained film director Jafar Panahi, winner of many international awards, an opposition website said on Tuesday. Panahi was held at his home together with his wife Mahnaz Mohammadi, daughter and 15 guests on Monday evening, opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi's website Kaleme said. Panahi's home was searched and some of his belongings seized, it added. The director supported Mousavi in last year's disputed presidential election, which plunged the Islamic Republic into months of political turmoil. There was no immediate comment from the authorities and official Iranian media did not report Panahi's detention. Last month, festival organizers said Iran had prevented him from traveling to the Berlin film festival. They said a travel ban had been imposed on Panahi, a winner of awards including the top prize at the Venice film festival for "The Circle" in 2000. Iran's pro-reform opposition says the June poll was rigged to secure the re-election of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The authorities denied the accusation of vote rigging and portrayed the huge opposition protests that erupted after the vote as a foreign-backed bid to undermine the clerical establishment. Thousands of opposition supporters were detained after the election. Most of them have since been freed but more than 80 people have been jailed for up to 15 years. Two people put on trial after the election have been executed. (Writing by Fredrik Dahl; editing by Michael Roddy)

If someone shoots a police officer in the back, the police say the shooter is a criminal, cowardly, and contemptible, among the nicer things the police say. If a police officer shoots a person in the back, no matter how many times the officer shoots the other person, the police say it's self-defense. Just a matter of viewpoint. I remember reading some quote by a police chief about a shooting. The suspect was shot multiple times in the back, and the police chief said, roughly, that it was a justified shooting, or that the shooting was done in self defense. What is comes down to, basically, is that when dealing with the police, unless you have a lawyer standing next to you, it pays to be careful. Even with a lawyer, it's probably a good idea to be a little careful when dealing with a police officer. I remember, this is ancient history from back in the 1970s, I think. There was a police officer in Augusta, Georgia, who was cleaning his revolver in the police station, and he accidentally shot one of his fellow officers. I don't know what happened to the officer who did the shooting. This was before the internet, so the information was not that easily available. But in that case, the shooting was not claimed as "self defense". The newspaper just reported the shooting as an accidental shooting. Edited on Mar 02, 2010, 06:06am

LA man held on $1 million bail for draping a movie billboard over a Hollywood building. They take movies seriously in Hollywood. $1 million bail is higher bail than many suspected murderers have been set. What is the penalty that should be meted out to this man? He is accused of 3 misdemeanor city code violations. Should he be hanged, burned alive, or given a lethal injection? An offduty cop shot and killed his girlfriend a while back, and I believe his bail was set at less than $50,000 (not positive about the amount, but I believe the bail was somewhere around $50,000. I guess the thinking was that the shooting was accidental, though I don't remember how the case turned out.) >>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<< Movie News & Gossip LA man held after huge movie ad draped on building (AP) Source: AP 1 hour, 26 minutes ago Buz LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles businessman who was arrested for investigation of draping a huge movie billboard over a historic Hollywood building is due in court after a weekend in jail. City attorney spokesman John Franklin says 49-year-old Kayvan Setareh is being held on a $1 million bail and will be arraigned Monday on three misdemeanor city code violations. Setareh was arrested at his Pacific Palisades home after allegedly arranging for the eight-story ad for the upcoming movie "How to Train Your Dragon" to be hung at a busy Hollywood intersection. City attorney's officials say Setareh posted the unpermitted "supergraphic" despite warnings. No telephone number was listed for Setareh. It was not immediately known if he had hired a lawyer.

I would second turboshaft's thinking on the appeal of a schoolgirl uniform and a cheerleader's outfit. A schoolgirl represents youth and innocence. And the cheerleaders were usually from the hottest chicks around. But when a model in her late twenties or beyond puts on a schoolgirl uniform or a cheerleaders outfit, it just looks ridiculous, instead of adding some spice to a "naughty" session.

Or is Cap'n some other guy, who just happens to spell his name like yours, except he uses a "'" in his name as a mark of distinction? Is it Cap'n, or Admiral? Or Capn? "Sanity is in the eye of the beholder." So is beauty and morality and a whole bunch else. At one time (back in the dark ages) sex toys were considered dirty or sexy, perverted, whatever. Today, in the porn world, they are really considered as toys. Sex toys, but still mainly toys. Someone wants to spice up a softcore shoot, they can add costumes or sex toys or whatever. To get away from the same old, same old, boring photos or videos. That's my interpretation, anyway. I sincerely doubt the girls in the photoshoots or videos are really getting that much a thrill from the sex toys. But the girls put on a smiley face or try to show passion or emotion to give the audience (the guy/girl who will look at the photos/videos) an extra charge. Drooler is very anti- sex toys. He has complained frequently, and wishes the sites he joins would not use them at all, I believe.

I'm thinking about opening an anal porn site. My hook (copyrighted) would be to send a family-sized bottle of Vicodin with an enema bag with every pre-paid 12-month subscription. Would I get into trouble with the authorities if I don't have a medical license? Are there any perverts out there with an M.D. degree that are willing to front this web site for me?

Fads come and go. That's my interpretation of why anal sex is so popular today. Just like shaved versus trimmed pubic hair. Fads can be irritating or enjoyable. If you don't enjoy it, try to ignore it. But that's easier said than done.

I'm thinking about going to see Alice. My impression is that the film is being positioned as a Johnny Depp movie, with Tim Burton as the guiding genius director. Most movies have more than one actor, but the big draw in this Alice is the star power of Johnny Depp. Anyway, I might see it, less for the story than the visuals. But it does have some story to it. It's more than just a mindless visual feast. Would children enjoy this Alice? It's certainly not aimed at kids. But kids today have mind-sets far different from when I was growing up. The violence and sex that are accepted today far beyond what was considered normal back in the 60s. And parents (and others) take their kids in to see R-rated films without any hesitation or even any thought. As pat362 said, this is a Disney movie. Walt Disney would never have made this movie when he was alive. On the other hand, we live in a very different world from his time.

Obviously you haven't been watching the Bourne movies with what's his name. As a secret agent, you reduce your porn stash to microfilm, and then have it inserted into your body somewhere. I forget where Bourne had it inserted. And I don't really remember why the fisherman who treated Bourne for gunshot wounds was able to find and remove the microfilm that had been inserted into Bourne's body. Anyway, by reducing your porn stash to microfilm, and having it inserted into your body, you are able to carry it with you wherever you go. And Bourne and the fisherman were able to read the microfilm without using a special microfilm reader. (Maybe I should watch the movie again, to try to understand how they could read a microfilm without a microfilm reader.) The microfilm or whatever it was that was inserted into Bourne's body had the number of a secret Swiss bank account. But if you think about it, it doesn't really make much sense. Because why would he need to have the account number on microfilm that was inserted into his body? He should have been able to remember the number of the account. Unless he was psychic and somehow foresaw that he would get amnesia because he had been shot and was under a lot of mental stress, that caused the amnesia. But the Bourne movies are good action movies, and you're not supposed to think about the logic of what's happening, but just enjoy the ride. The same for porn: Don't think about the RCMP while you're trying to enjoy your porn, or you might develop serious problems, like Bourne did.

Ben Franklin suggested the turkey as our (U.S.) national emblem. But they chose the eagle instead. At least, that's what I seem to remember from my high school days, which seems to be pre-historic in 2010. Edit: I did a google on Franklin and the turkey. Here's what I found: Did Ben really want the turkey to be the symbol of the United States of America? In a letter to his daughter, Benjamin Franklin wrote: For my own part I wish the Eagle had not been chosen the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead tree near the river, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the labor of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a fish, and is bearing it to his nest for the support of his mate and young ones, the Eagle pursues him and takes it from him. With all this injustice, he is never in good case but like those among men who live by sharping & robbing he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides he is a rank coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the district. He is therefore by no means a proper emblem for the brave and honest Cincinnati of America who have driven all the King birds from our country... "I am on this account not displeased that the figure is not known as a Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the truth the Turkey is in comparison a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America . . . He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a bird of courage, and would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his farm yard with a red coat on. messmer, it sounds like you follow an intelligent, well-thought out approach to "safe internet browsing". On the other hand, if the U.S. government, or the Canadian government in your case, wanted to collect information on all the people who have joined pay porn sites, your IP address(es) would almost certainly be included, unless you have been masking that with some computer program. Also, I would guess that real computer experts would be able to examine your computers which have been wiped clean of past history logs, and reconstruct those logs. I'm not an expert, but that's my guess. The "safe" approach would be what justme suggested: "pay in cash, leaving behind no record of the purchase". It's more expensive, less convenient, but much safer if you want to keep your porn activity really private.

I believe Cameron has said that he will make the CGI technology available. Also, George Lucas has said that he's interested in possibly using Cameron's CGI/3D technology to re-master(?) some of the Star Wars movies and make them 3D. I believe that's what I read. But jeez, that's for the die-hard fans. How many times do you want to see the old Star Wars movies, anyway? But please don't give out my secret identity or my address, or the twinkies who go to Star Wars conventions or Star Trek conventions might start hunting me.

On the other side of the Darwin Awards: Larry Causey held up the U.S. Post Office in West Monroe, La. He went out to the parking lot and waited for the cops. Larry had heard that federal regulations mandate free medical care for inmates -- treatment he couldn't afford on his own. As soon as they booked him he popped the news that he has cancer. A quick and free colonoscopy later, they started him right out on three drug treatments and set up his inmate care plan. Larry was tickled enough to plead guilty off the bat. After all, his medical treatment is "on the house".

I visited the Statue of Liberty one time when I was in New York. I neglected to put my hand over my heart, or to sing The Star Spangled Banner. But if I ever do go back there, maybe I will put my hand over my heart in joyous celebration of liberty. Since I can't really carry a tune, never could really, and am actually getting so bad that even I can now hear how bad I sound, I probably won't be singing the ballad. Or maybe I could hum it silently. As for French Fries being renamed Freedom Fries, this is the first I am hearing about it. I think I have a couple of French coins with the Statue of Liberty on them. I put them somewhere. That's a lot cheaper than paying for a flight to New York to see the real thing.

turboshaft, you must be more into fashion than I am. I never heard of the snuggie until you brought it up. But if it's comfortable to wear, male rock and movie stars are welcome to wear them. Actually, I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between a snuggie and a poncho or a monk's robe, just a marketing gimmick. But a snuggie does not make a woman more attractive, in my opinion. Back in the 1970s women started to wear lingerie that was normally covered by blouse, dress, whatever, but this lingerie was worn as outerwear. This was even before Madonna started wearing a bra on stage as outerwear. They also went bra-less as a sign of the times. Fashion, for both men and women, is constantly changing. Women's fashion is much more noticeable, and sometimes it even makes the women more attractive. I can do without the fashions of tattoos and piercings.

Just a passing thought on fashion: For many years now, when rock stars give concerts, they often wear jeans with holes in them. When is the next stage coming when they start wearing jackets or shirts with holes? I would like to see the female rockers (who are young enough) with strategically placed hole in their shirt/blouse/whatever that will increase the eye-appeal of these girls. Or better yet, how about Victoria's Secret lingerie being required outerwear for female movie and rock stars? Male movie stars and rock stars can wear a blanket, for all I care.

Avatar crashes and burns at box office. Showing that no movie goes on forever, Avatar finished 2nd at the box office this weekend, forced from the number one position by a weepy movie titled "Dear John". Will this destroy Avatar's chances at the Oscars? Stay tuned for further information on the Avatar losses. Avatar still holds the number one position for number one box office champ in the U.S., and number one box office champ worldwide, having moved past Titanic, the old number one record holder for those titles that sank to the bottom because of inflated ticket prices. But will Oscar voters spend their votes on a movie that has become number 2 (or even lower at Oscar-time) at the current box office? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100207/ap_en_mo/us_box_office

With my submarine, it won't matter if L.A. does get submerged, because I will be the new submariner, gliding in and out of harms way, helping to rescue beautiful maidens who will fall into my arms and into my bed with gratitude and love. Cameron has said that he made Avatar with sequels in mind. He is talking about making 2 sequels for Avatar. I don't think he is thinking about making as many sequels for Avatar as Lucas did for Star Wars, but I also don't think Cameron is as focused on cash-money as Lucas. Lucas became a billionaire off Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and he is still chasing the dollar with even more sequels, prequels, etc. of those franchises. I don't remember the details, and I am not really computer knowledgeable, but I seem to remember back in the Bush administration (and probably before that as well) that United States law specifically requires giving the federal government access to telephone lines and Internet connections. There was some concern about the amount of random data that government agencies could download without getting judicial approval (when do you need a warrant to collect emails and other information sent over the internet? Apparently, if you are the federal government, you don't need a warrant as long as you cite the danger of terrorism and the health and welfare of our great nation.) Anyway, the federal government for years has been collecting massive amounts of random information from the internet and storing it away. That's my understanding. Is it legal? Does it matter? Who has the power to go after the federal government when the threat of terrorism is still being exploited?

Holy Bat-cave, or Holy Spider-webs, or whatever phrase Peter Parker is fond of shouting out loud (I've only seen the first Spiderman movie, so I need to refresh my memory about the character) Logan Lerman says that he is in talks with Sony to play Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot. This guy, Logan Lerman, is 18 years old, and he is way cuter than that old man Tobey McGuire who is now 34 (an age that's way over the hill to be playing a teenager). Let's everyone hear at PU start an email write-in campaign shouting how great Logan would be in the Peter Parker role. Boy, that guy is cute! I've allredy voted myself President of the Logan Lerman/Peter Parker Fan Club, and will be heading to Japan to talk with the Sony executives about my original ideas for the next Spiderman movie. Rip Torn has a history of alcohol abuse. The article states "he also has two previous drunken driving arrests in New York.", as well as being arrested in Connecticut earlier for a drunken driving case. He was given permission to enter an alcohol education program, but how much that helps is debatable. I doubt he is insane: he's an alcoholic. And at 78, there are other factors that might be coming into play, such as Alzheimer's. It's sad that such talented people (Rip Torn, Peter Falk, etc.) need increasing help as they get older, but that's what happens to everyone. Falk is not an alcoholic, but he is a victim of Alzheimer's.

Actor Rip Torn probably wanted to make a withdrawal, and is now being held on $100,000 bail. Where will he find the money if the bank won't lend it to him? Sometimes it doesn't pay to get out of bed. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100130/ap_e...le_rip_torn_arrested Rip Torn charged with breaking into Conn. bank AP Sat Jan 30, 6:01 pm ET SALISBURY, Conn. – Actor Elmore "Rip" Torn has been charged with breaking into a Connecticut bank and carrying a loaded handgun while intoxicated. State police say the 78-year-old Salisbury resident was arrested Friday night after police found him inside the Litchfield Bancorp with a loaded revolver. The "Men in Black" actor has been taken into custody and booked on charges including burglary and possession of firearm without a permit. He is being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled for a Monday appearance in Bantam Superior Court. Last year, Torn was given probation in a Connecticut drunken driving case and granted permission to enter an alcohol education program. He also has two previous drunken driving arrests in New York. A spokesman for Torn did not immediately return phone calls Saturday.

Anger management: get into a fight with your girlfriend, one way to work it off is to beat on a spectator. That can work really well, especially if you are a cop and have a concealed gun on you. The gun can come in handy for beating on the other fellow's head. And if you have a partner or friend nearby, then he can come in and help beat the perp up as well. I am thinking of writing a screenplay about this, even though Hollywood has already done movies about anger management before. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_14282583?source=rss Two LAPD officers arrested in alleged pistol-whipping By Ruby Gonzales, Staff Writer Updated: 01/27/2010 08:08:42 PM PST WHITTIER - Two off-duty Los Angeles police officers were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly pistol-whipping and injuring a Whittier man during a fight. Whittier police said one of the suspects thought the 31-year-old resident was paying too much attention to an argument the officer was having with his girlfriend. The officers had been drinking, according to Lt. Carlos Solorza. Brandon James Valdez, 29, and Patrick Anthony Fitzgerald, 38, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. They were booked at the Whittier jail early Wednesday and posted bond shortly after. Both are out on $30,000 bail. They have an April 7 court appearance at Whittier Superior Court. Valdez and Fitzgerald were placed on administrative leave pending the result of the criminal investigation by Whittier police and the LAPD's administrative investigation, said LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman. Citing personnel issues, the LAPD didn't release any more information about the officers. At a news conference about an unrelated burglary scam, Chief Charlie Beck said Wednesday that the officers' arrests can be a big embarrassment to the department and to the city and that they take it very seriously. Whittier police got wind of the incident about 8 p.m. after receiving a call of a fight outside Panera Bread at 15630 Whittwood Lane. They were told one of the suspects had a gun. Whittier police spokesman Mike Dekowski said one of the off-duty officers, Valdez, argued earlier with his girlfriend. A man standing nearby talking on his cell phone saw the argument. The officer allegedly confronted the man and struck him in the face. The two started fighting. Solorza said the officer reportedly pulled out a handgun and began hitting the man in the head with it. The second officer, Fitzgerald, came out of the restaurant and allegedly got involved in the fight, Dekowski said. The man was able to break free. But as he tried to run away, the suspects allegedly chased him and tackled him to the ground where the assault continued. He got away a second time and ran into a nearby Target store. Solorza said the man suffered blunt-force trauma to the head and was taken to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. He has since been released.

Do you have that on tape of Mr. Drooler getting creamed? And was that consensual sex or not? Cough-choke-choke-cough. Mr. Fluffy avoids those creeps. Lol. Edited on Jan 25, 2010, 10:25pm

jd1961, you replace your external hard drives once a year? What do you do with the old ones, toss them away, or sell them? Seems like an expensive thing to replace your hard drives once a year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Momoa An actor who can survive a real-life attack with a broken beer glass, that requires him to have around 140 stitches during reconstructive surgery, should be able to have action scenes where he is able to use his dreadlocks in the fight scenes. What kind of a wimp is he, anyway? Complaining of headaches, and even whiplash from his dreadlocks? Are television and the movies completely fake, where the actors don't even have their own hair, but have to wear wigs because their hair weighs too much? These actors should be forced to wear large signs on their chest, stating that their hair and other parts of their body are fake, and that whenever a double is used, that double should be given credit with subtitles whenever a double is used in a scene. Enough bullshit and fakery in TV and the movies. Let's get some reality in here so, once again, we can start to believe in what we are seeing.

I'm no expert on computers, but any drive can die. That applies to both internal and external drives. Some brands and models seem to have a higher failure rate than others. Making a backup copy of your favorite/important files is a good idea/practice.

I did an internet search on Drooler's dog. Turns out he's 100% purebred junkyard dog, bred for savagery. Although importing such dogs into the United States is illegal, a special exemption was passed, making it legal to own such dogs that are already located within the United States. No warnings badges or licenses are required when walking such dogs, since the law regulating such animals believes the dogs themselves are recognized by the public at large as predators. turboshaft, you have been warned. End of legal notice. turboshaft is now fair game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djj7jW6ny2M Edited on Jan 22, 2010, 12:13pm

The stars are listening to turboshaft. The first two installments of "Night at the Museum," starring Ben Stiller, have brought in close to $1 billion worldwide at the box office, so it should come as no surprise that a third installment is in the works. Perhaps turboshaft could serve as technical adviser of sequels. I knew there was a sneaky reason behind his anti-sequel posting. http://movies.yahoo.com/news/usmovies.ac...night-museum-3-works

Two major reasons Avatar is approaching the box office of Titanic (besides the special effects and whatever): inflation of ticket prices since Titanic was released; the exta-high prices being charged for the 3-D version. The number of tickets sold for Titanic is far ahead of ticket sales of Avatar. And if you threaten my kitty, I will set Drooler's ferocious mutt on you. What kind of dog is he, anyway?

Iron Man 2 is coming May 7: With Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow. Those are top names for actors, and the movie is expected to be one of the top movies of the year. New cast members for part 2 are: War Machine (Cheadle) Black Widow (Johansson) Whiplash (Rourke)

Depending on who you talk to, that idea might be self-evident, or a piece of propaganda from the devil. Lol. Are you considering writing your own Book of Revelation? "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." But one of the main functions of PU is to help us separate the real from the crap, finding a worthwhile site to spend our porn dollars on. I find it much easier reviewing a site that I really liked, instead of criticizing a site that I thought was a waste of my money. Also, I mainly stick to the major softcore sites. There's less disappointment that way. But I have been burned by joining other sites that I found to be waste of time and money. Sometimes I want to try something a little different, or I really like one or more of the models at a site and I'm hoping the site will be ok to good, and it turns out to be a waste. But people's tastes differ, and something that I find a piece of crap/disgusting might be extremely enjoyable to someone else, especially where you get into fetishes and whatnot. The only site on Denner's short list I might have considered joining is 18 Only Girls. But Denner's recent review of the site, with its low score and warnings of poor quality and other problems, tells me that site would be a waste of my time and money. The Godfather Part 1 movie was a great movie. The Godfather novel it was based on was also a great read. I enjoyed both of them immensely. It's hard for me to tell which I enjoyed more. I'd say that quite often the book is usually better than the movie, but a few times, it's the other way around. I also liked Godfather Part 2 (the movie). Godfather Part 3 (the movie) was not up to parts 1 and 2, I thought, although still good.

For the full frontal, buy me a ticket. I'm short of change at the moment. Lol. I kind of doubt you will be seeing her full frontal naked for at least a few years yet. She just started modeling underwear for Armani, so you can get a pretty good idea of her body. But most actresses don't go totally nude until they really need/hope for a career boost from Playboy, after their career has slowed way down. At the moment, Megan Fox is very hot from the Transformer movies.

Are porn novels still being published? It's been many years since I've been inside an adult bookstore. I have to admit that I read adult books back in the 1970s, but then I got away from them. And in the 1990s I discovered the internet and internet porn. So are adult books still being published today? I doubt they are as common as they were back in the 1970s.
