Landscape Format This thread is only going to be of interest to photo phreaks. Why is it that we are still getting so many portrait format shots in photosets? I am sure by now that the vast majority of surfers will have widescreen format monitors. Landscape format suits them so much better. Nicely framed landscape shots are so much more intimate & welcoming. Properly done they draw the viewer in. Portrait format looks old fashioned, formal and distancing. What do fellow photo pholk think? Cap'n. I subscribe to a newsletter from MET Art. They have both landscape and portrait views. What I like about the portrait view over the landscape is that you can blow up the photo to a larger size whereas 99% of the landscape is what you see is what you get. I would think though that when you are photographing a subject you are either taking the photo in landscape or portrait mode and because of the parameters of each, you'll get a different measurements of the frame. How a person frames a shot - fills the frame as it where - determines which of the two you will use. Landscape if more for horizontal type shots and portrait is more for vertical shots. Unless the model is stretched out, more than like the choice would be a portrait shot. At least that's my understanding. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. Conventionally, yes, that is the way they have always done it. With landscape you don't really need to zoom in, but if you do, these days the resolution & quality should still be there. I think in the light of current technology; high performance CCDs & widescreen monitors; they should rethink the approach. A limited amount of portrait, face shots for instance, is OK. I stand by my initial premise. Cap'n. Yep, and as usual I stand by your initial premise as well. This is the big reasonhy I've never subscribed to Karups because all their bonus sets I've seen so far on other sites were 99% portrait. | |
