New cancellation-policy from CCBill? (luring or what)

I've had this strange experience from CCBill lately. All here knows how to cancel via CCBill - it's easy and it's working - normally.
BUT lately they have changed the order of which your status of a certain membership is placed at your CCBill account, like this:
Before all your memberships were placed in order of the date for joining - that way you can always see what your latest membership/account is - at the top.
But now I've experienced - several times - that I have to run through all my earlier memberships (at this point over 40) - and suddenly find the latest way down in the middle or futher back.
Is this a scheme of luring - you forget what you signed up to when it's NOT at the top of your CCBill account.

I've guess I've never had that problem. I always keep the emails they send, so I normally use email and subscription ID to cancel. As for Epoch, I won't ever use them again. Got my credit card numbers stolen after signing up for a site with them and of course since I didn't have 2 pieces of information (email, credit card or subscription id) I couldn't cancel and they weren't willing to help. And my bank wouldn't refund it because I authorized the first charge. But that's another story and I've since changed banks.

So if a site doesn't use CCBill, I won't sign up for them.

When I cancel, I always search the site separately. But I also keep my memberships organized on my desktop so I never forget.

There's usually very little coincidence involved when money's at stake. I know they are considered generally trustworthy by the people here, but they have just about the worst exchange rate for converting dollars into pounds. Denner, I think they are all devious in their own way, certainly from what I have read on the forums and reviews. What Jeffrey has said about Epoch makes me very wary of them too.

To both roseman and jd: When I deal with CCBill and my cancels, I always use the most easy way which (I)think is the creditcardnumber and your primary e-mail adress - then you do not have to remember which sites you've joined lately. If you do that, things turn up the way I mentioned - and, friends, I think it stinks.....
CCBill should do something about that. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Your probably right there, Squirrel - Earlier I've always trusted CCBill most - but man just try to Google them - and yes, there's been problems for fellow PUs at Epoch - where shall we start or end - in order to tell those money-people not to hassle us? This place certainly helps. If you find something that is unfair, a rip off, or bad and it's posted here, people take notice. It lets companies know that if they try something underhand, it will be publicised. If it's publicised it may put people off going with that company. This improves things in the long run.

I used to go to a number of review sites but liked TBP the best. Then I started noticing the PU thing, started reading the Denner reviews and found they were much more incisive, critical and what I was looking for in a review. I think this was before the PU forum was created. Then I found myself paying more notice to the PU comments than the actual TBP original reviews. In the end this place was the first I would stop by to see what a site was like.

So your reviews really did make a difference in one small way! I have to believe it's going to apply acrosss the board. Fans will take note and vote with their feet - or at least with their money. This must improve porn in the long run.

I keep using CCBill because I consider them trustworthy but you are absolutely right when it comes to ripping off customers when it comes to the exchange of foreign currency. One site I subscribed to a few months ago when the Canadian Dollar and the U.S. Dollar were almost at par listed the US price at $19.95 and they charged me $ 26.00 Canadian. Epoch is better when it comes to conversion (extra charges.)

I remember as well when memberships through ccbill were easier to cancel from at their site, as everything was listed in reverse chronological order of joining. (That's from entering your credit number and e-mail address there.)

Then gaps started being a problem. Some subscriptions just weren't there in the list. I'd have to search email.

Well, my solution has been this. When I join a site, I keep a record in a spreadsheet (good old excel). I always include the user name, password, and the subscription ID. So when I cancel at ccbill, I just copy the subscription ID from the excel file and paste into their lookup and I always find the subscription straightaway.

It's less convenient than it used to be, but it's better than searching email or whatever and maybe not finding it.

I just hate that panicky, "OMG, how am I going to get out of this?" feeling. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. Edited on Nov 28, 2008, 12:42pm

Thanks to all for the heads-up regarding the changes at CCBill and the warnings about Epoch.

A suggestion I have to avoid billing problems - this is very similar to Drooler's technique, although without the spreadsheet:

I keep my files organized on my hard drive by site, and when I join a site I make a new folder for it. When I get the confirmation email, I simply copy it into the folder - this is an easy as drag-n-drop from your email client (e.g. Outlook) into the folder. That way, you have an exact copy of the date you joined, as well as your subscription ID.

When you want to cancel, it's as simple as going to the site's folder, double clicking on the copied email, then use copy/paste to enter the subscription ID into the CCBill search form. This way you find exactly the right subscription that you want to cancel.

This technique is also handy to let you keep track of the date you joined a site, so you can cancel it prior to the next billing cycle.

It seems like if you are a member of multiple sites at a time, Drooler's technique or mine is essential. True, CCBill tends to be reputable, but as several have noted here above, where money is involved, there will always be a tendency to exploit the consumer. Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb. - Batman
