I was planning on attending the major AVN sponsored porn convention in Las Vegas as it is very close in time to CES - but apparently it has been tamed due to complaints, so that it is more of an industry event and less of a spectacle. I also decided to skip CES and went to CeBit instead, which was mega impressive - so I think that was the right choice. I live close to Montreal and Toronto (say 3 hours) and I've heard rumors that they have some interesting conventions that are pretty uncensored and flamboyant, but I've been unsuccessful in finding their website or anything. Can't say I've lost any sleep over it - but I thought it would be a fun weekend trip. If anyone knows about conventions in the eastern Canadian area - I'd love for some tips. As a webmaster I've been to a few conventions. The ones I've gone to are mainly for webmasters. They can often get pretty wild. There was recently one in Phoenix, AZ where there was a nude doge-ball tournament. Wittyguy, if you decide to go to one, just make sure it's one that focuses on web SURFERS (read: consumers), not webmasters. Over the years, I've been to several that were for webmasters but don't attend regularly and haven't been to any recently. As far as the helicopter incident ... Seems a local news story had made a big deal of the adult webmaster convention and made it sound like it was a non-stop orgy. They (the media) were quite pissed that the media wasn't allowed to attend with their cameras in tow. The news folks were determined to "get the dirt" on the smut-mongers so one of the locals had a helicopter trying to capture some of the action. It's a matter of being in the right crowd. If you attend an event for consumers, then the stuff at the show will be targeting consumers. There will likely be pornstars where you can get picture taken with them and other stuff ... for consumers. At a webmaster show, I doubt you'd find booths about credit card processing or classes on international traffic or the most recent 2257 rulings or some of the other stuff marketed very interesting. At webmaster shows it's doubtful you'd rate an invite to the wilder parties or events. I live about an hour from Monteal, so If I do hear of one coming up I'll gadly let you know. I can't speak for Toronto too much, but I suspect that the Montreal ones are likely to be much hotter. Afterall this is a city where exchange clubs are allowed to exist. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

Thanks, I'd rather be traveling to Montreal anyway, it is my favorite of the Canadian cities I've visited (Including Ottawa, Quebec, Hamilton and of course Niagra Falls with its silly tourism). Very Euro in many ways :-) Toronto is nice as well, but seems much more business oriented. Somebody said that in many cities people live to work and Montreal people work to live. I went to the AVN one a few years ago in Las Vegas. They had a webmaster one right before it and then the AVN one followed it. It wasn't to bad but it was mostly for the industry. Though there was tons of hot ass everywhere but it wasn't like I had hoped. CES was going on as well at the time. I think Khan is right, that a show for consumers would be much better. I expected much more from the AVN show. I did get to meet some good pornstars though. | |
