Thanks a lot, Denner ... ... for introducing your new "fat tax" in Denmark. Canada cannot resist following other countries when it comes to the improvement of its citizens' health, if they like it or not, so I guess we'll be paying more for butter and cheese etc. soon ourselves. So, thanks for setting the example, Denmark! messmer cheese lover Edited on Oct 04, 2011, 10:05am

I wouldn't put it past our government, Wittyguy. At least when it comes to BBWs. On a more serious note, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if obese people became the latest target for Canadian society and doctors, and the health care system in general. A while back we actually had some doctors who refused to treat smokers. So, why not refuse to treat people who like Wendy's a bit too much! And why not a 10% tax on all items that contain fat? It`s all so logical, and all so wrong. Big Brother is here!

That sucks for Denner and his fellow Danes. Here's to the formally low priced fatty foods... I'm not really one to get my panties in a bunch over food taxes when the government is doing far worse things, like letting us eat tainted meat--and that's just food! Still this isn't really the best way to fight obesity or even heart disease (until recent decades margarine was generally worse for your heart than butter), and I think it will do more to piss off consumers and generate some tax revenue than improve health, never mind how genetics screws up everything else. I say legalize it all--food, drugs, sex--and flatten their sales taxes/VATs while also working on safety, not subjective versions of "health" or what's "good." And let messmer have his cheese before he gets angry. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Oh, yes - tax on fat. An idea created by the brilliant minds of our new, three days old left winged government. A government with a hole lot of health freaks who's also is going to seriously raise taxes on other of life's more pleasurable tings like smoke, booze and beer They keep breaking promises made BEFORE the election - too many naive Danes voted for them. But we got the right to vote them out again "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I sympathize with you, Denner. But only mildly because our Governments, both of the left and right, have considered it their God given right to tax heavily everything that might be pleasurable. So, no matter who we vote out, the next bunch won't be any better.

I think I would still rather pay a tax than just buy everything illegally, especially considering the problems of the black market. But both ends of the political spectrum seem to have the screwed-up idea that they have the moral authority to deem what is "good" and what is "bad" for us lowly peasants. Ugh...
