Which browser? - Mr. Paranoid

Hello friends,

On some of the other threads I see many of you are running chrome. On my Mac I run safari and have always stayed away from chrome because it was my understanding that it reported back a lot of data to google.

I try to minimize how much data is collected about me and especially my porn browsing (I mostly stay logged out of google and other sites that are interested in me and my "social graph")

I'm not naive. I know data is being collected about me - like I said I just want to keep that data to a minimum (especially when the steps are easy to take)

So my question is: is chrome porn users approved? Why?

I personally would say that when running on a Mac, Chrome and Safari are pretty similar. Chrome I believe now has more extensions than Safari, but Macs don't tend to run into the same sort of problems that PCs do - they have their own unique set.

On PCs Chrome is by far and above the fastest internet browser. It now has hundreds of extensions, from normal things like download accelerators and password managers to stranger things like automated full-screen Facebook image previewing. It is extremely secure because it isolates the programs running on webpages so they don't get access to your computer, and it is extremely user friendly. If you think Chrome should have a feature, it probably already has it. It is also being constantly updated. Google Chrome debuted in 2006, it is already on Version 21, and most versions have dozens (if not more) minor updates. Hence the current version I'm running is: 21.0.1180.60

Google actually wrote and drew a comic book to explain why Chrome was so awesome and it can explain much of the origins and the unique programming core of Chrome: http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/big_00.html "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I'm on a Mac and I use Chrome - I think it was after 5.1 or something that Safari started to get pretty flaky, so I switched - Chrome is, at least for me, easily faster, better and more reliable than me. And for smut viewing purposes, the incognito window feature is very handy! Better than the equivalent on Safari.

There's no good alternative to DTA on Chrome, through - so when I join a site that needs a DM, I switch to Firefox; which feels slow in comparison and the version numbering is now just silly.

I'm as suspicious of Google as the next man - probably far more so, actually, but then no less suspicious of them than I am of Apple, so for me it's not much of a choice. As long as you don't 'log in' to chrome, and your Google account (if logged in) is set not to track your history, you should be OK. However, one option (which is on my list of things to do) is to find and download a binary of Chromium; it's essentially identical to Chrome but the open source version, so you know there is nothing untoward there.

You should be far more wary of Facebook - I believe that if you are logged in, they can track your visits to any site with a FB like button or other FB widgets.

Thanks Otoh for bring out these points. I'd never heard of Chromium.

The whole lot of them (FB especially) make me nervous about my data. My thought process was stick with Safari - Apple doesn't make it's money (the lion share of it anyway) by accessing my data. For Google that's their bread and butter; no?

It was my understanding that chrome sent back data to Mountain View ("anonomized") whether you were log in or not. Am I mistaken.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge.

Just found this article which seems to explain it well:
http://www.howtogeek.com/100361/how-to-o...for-maximum-privacy/

Basically, some of the nicer touches, instant search and the like, necessarily require sending data back to Google; so if you are happy to live without them, they can be turned off.

Well, yes - up to a point. But I don't trust either of them at all - Google with their 'accidental' collection of wireless data will collecting streetview images; Apple with their 'accidental' logging of your location history on iOS...

Chromium is the (Google-driven) open source version; somebody would know and make a fuss if it was doing something untoward. Chrome is basically Google's 'commercial' packaging of this - it differs only in a few features, like some of the google integration and integrated flash player and the like. I also think perhaps Chromium doesn't autoupdate.

The Chromium source code is easy to find, if you want to build it - they don't publicise the location of ready-built binaries, but I just found them (thanks for prompting me to do so!) here:
http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/...index.html?path=Mac/

I'm a web developer and - much as I am wary of the big brother aspect as you are - Chrome/Chromium is easily the best browser to work in/with/for.

Funny, I use Chrome nearly every day, but never for porn, so ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha ... I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Well the feedback from this post has driven me to Chrome. I installed it this morning - and now I'm figuring out how to replace all my extensions (flash manager and password managers.

Again thank you everyone for helping me with this.

If I tried to I'd need a thesaurus and a translator. As always GM your eloquence is brilliant.

Why Camino? Can you give me a brief sales pitch? Since I'm in the process of switching old habits, I'd like to consider all my options.

But I've seen comments you've made elsewhere on other stations, CT, that was.

Thanks for your kind words, marc, but having observed much of what you've contributed: ie., reviews, threads, posts general commentary, and whatever other outstanding efforts born of your presence -- not the least of which includes the obvious power of your sincerity -- I submit matches whatever could be attributable to me.

One hangs around a bunch of guys who's got something, and before long you're infected with it.
So it is amongst my association with the super-charged lot here on the site of Porn-Users. If you're lucky enough to find this place, You jump into the fray, and sure enough some of that unique, lovable, hard-line colloquial talent has just got to rub off on you.

So what you see that I don't, marc, could only be somwwhat credited to my worthy and irreplaceable neighbors here at PU -- who continue assuming the role of Graymane's professor and mentor.

But schoolin' had little to do with it......
I staggared out of our school's assistant principle's office, after being late a third time from delivering newspapers on my morning route, walked out of the front double doors of my high school and never looked back. Why? BECAUSE .... the jerk-off (literally) beat me so hard with a wood paddle, almost the size of a tennis racket and weight of a kitchen skillet, that boils eruped on the cheeks of my ass from the added holes drilled into the paddle for the express purpose of inflicting more pain.
God only knows what he was doing with his pecker while he was whaling me so violiently ....during which a different wail was heard throughout the second floor ajoining his office ... coming from a twelve to thriteen year old boy.

Get this:
during this unbelievable act of savagery, he had me straddled over a chair with my pants pulled down ... exposing my bare ass

Hard to believe something like that would be going on right here in the good'ol' US-of-A.
But that was a long time ago ... a peroid when it was shockingly wide-spread and acceptable punishment. Edited on Aug 09, 2012, 11:30am
