tech question from a numbnuts

Hi guys, just a little question here. I ordered a new PC over the phone yesterday, a CybertronPC X-Cruiser 2. I selected it from a Tiger catalog because it seemed to have really good specs and, in particular, a good video card, which is important to me because I want to be able to watch Hi-Def stuff, which I can't do with my current puter, which is seven years old. Also, it was in my price-range.

Problem is, I'm a tad worried because I can't find any reviews of this machine which dwell on anything other than its gaming capabilities. It is a gaming system, after all. In fact, user-reviews seem to be scant across the net for this PC.

Anyone out there know of this make and/or model? Is it going to serve my needs as any computer would, or is it like, specifically rigged for gaming? I'm a techno-dunce and this is probably a stupid concern, but there it is. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Well, I don't pretend to be a computer anorak, but if the system is good for gaming, it should suit your needs. Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award

I found 2 models (with AMD / Intel processor) that match your description and both of them are much better than the PC I own. Rest assured that you will get the full HD experience as my PC gives it to me too :-).

Have fun with your new machine guess you will like it a lot!

I googled CybertronPC X-Cruiser 2 and see that there are a lot of different versions, ranging in price from $500 to $1400. The lower priced models look like they're a little weak in the memory department. Weak at least in terms of their being gaming machines which normally go for overkill. The video cards looked strong enough, so, if after getting the system going, you find that video skips or stutters, you might try a RAM upgrade. Sites like crucial.com have a little scanning app you can install that will let you know what memory is compatible with your system. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Thanks, RB. The model I ordered has 4 gigs of memory. I sure hope that will be enough. Price was $629 through Tiger, but I've seen the same model listed higher in other places.

Thanks Cap'n and mr smut also! Also hats off to Cap'n for using a word I never heard before: anorak. I'm an avid reader and online thesaurus junky, but somehow that one eluded me! You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

4GB should be more than sufficient for most things you will do with your new PC. B.t.w. did you order Windows7 with this one? As far as we could see this new version is superior to Vista and to be honest it wouldn't make sense to order a copy of XP IMHO.

Whoo-hoo, I can get my custom-made avatar now. If that deal is still an option, that is.

No, it comes with Vista. Probably a bad decision on my part. Maybe I can upgrade to Windows 7? I dunno. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Too bad they don't have a XXX-Cruiser model for your particular "gaming" needs... ;) I'm sure some company out there has sat down and said "Ah, fuck it, 90% of computer users just want to watch porn anyway, lets give them a machine to fit their sleazy needs." Anorak - Literally a specific type of winter coat with a hood.
As worn by socially inept enthusiasts. ;0)

You might refer to them as a 'geek.'

Also known in some parts as a 'bobble hat' for similar reasons!

Just thought I'd update: got the puter and let me tell you, it kicks ass. I ran the tests at PC Pitstop and this pc is in the top 9% for video capabilities. Movie watching on my computer is a whole new experience for me - regular movies that is, not porn - and I've already downloaded three films from Amazon (I highly recommend "300", unless you have an aversion to battle scenes and gore. The actor that played Xerxes has an extraordinarily impressive presence on film).

Also, they did not have Vista so they installed Windows 7 on my machine at no extra charge. Hard getting used to it at first, but at the moment I am pretty comfortable with the changes and very pleased.

Only one thing bothers me: when this machine goes into sleep mode, it looks as if it has turned off. No lights anywhere. And, I can't wake it up with the mouse or the keyboard. I have to press the power button. When I do, bang, it's back to where it was before it went to sleep. I find this rather odd. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

I'm glad someone's found happiness with a Windows machine - especially a Windows 7 machine. : - ) My mother's PC died early last week, so I went out and got her a slightly better than modest HP desktop so she could play her Text Twist and Mahjongg and send some email. Two days later, I get a call with her almost in tears because she can't find anything and the PC keeps locking up. "This is so much different than before - where is everything?", she asks. "And why does the screen freeze so much?"

The lockups were enough to take it back and put in a frantic order to Newegg for the parts to build her another XP machine. I didn't care for the GUI changes in 7 myself. Hell, I just grudgingly moved from 2000 to XP and I'm not thrilled with that!

As far as bringing your PC out of sleep mode only with the power button, I look at that as a good thing. I've seen where the mouse gets bumped, like when someone bumps into the desk, and the PC comes on when you don't really need it. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Many manufacturers offer a free upgrade to Windows 7 if you buy a machine that still has Vista installed, www. Mine did.
BTW, re. avatars: make sure they are full cut or French type. :-)

Re: locking up. My first pc was an HP, and that thing froze up at least once a day. No mouse movement, control-alt-delete wouldn't work, nothing. My next pc was a Compac, and it never froze in the six or seven years I had it. It would get hung up at times, but that machine had only 380-something megs of memory.

I've had no problems with this pc yet or Windows 7, but it does take some getting used to. Bear in mind, the main reason I'm jazzed with this new computer is because the video quality is so superior to what I'm used to. Maybe I'll run into some snags down the road. The machine came installed with Windows 7, plus the cd, because they didn't have Vista, so they told me.

My avatar? Those are granny-panties on my head. No thongs for me. I want the full experience! ;) You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Oh yes. A 25 inch monitor is next on my selfish Christmas list. Am using a 22 inch currently. Also will need a good chair. I'm stiff as a board from watching movies the past couple days (theatrical films, not porn).***

No, I wouldn't think you would be "stiff as a board" from watching porn for a couple of days. You might start out that way, but I doubt you would still be stiff afterward. ;) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it?
