PRAISE THE US of A - off topics We've just had the celebration of liberty from the german/nazi occupation 5th of May here in little ol' Denmark. AND we would not not be here if it was not the help from the USA (including UK - the english people were the last and the bravest in Europe NOT to surrender to the nazis, Thanks to UK for our existence!!!) Still allow me to praise the US of A for the help and support this Europe have had for YEARS in the name of FREEDOM. (AND where would porn be today if we have not had that freedom???) And a praise to Miss Donna Fargo who said it just right: "I worked in the fields this morning I traveled your highways today Used a creek and a rainbow for a roadmap And a tree for a chapel to pray And I'm so proud to sing your praises And to live in the land of the free I'm just one of your children who loves you You're home, sweet home to me United States of America Where I can be whatever I can be Free to think as I choose Right or wrong, win or lose Where my only limitation is me United States of America I believe in the red, white and blue And I thank you for All you've done for me And I'll do my best for you United States of America Hallelujah, we love you And as a citizen of my country I believe it is my duty to obey your laws To try to be a worthy individual A positive example and a Productive and responsible citizen To be informed and concerned About our nation's affairs and to Voice my beliefs constructively To practice diligently An attitude of brotherly love And hold no hatred against anyone And when one of My brothers makes a mistake Be he peasant or a President I will try to treat him As I would want to be treated With compassion and understanding And I will continue to be proud To pay taxes for the opportunity to live In the greatest nation in the world A nation born out of faith in God And sustained only if that faith And the support of the American people Remain strong United States of America Hallelujah, we love you United States of America Hallelujah, we love you" .......... Some could say these lines are naive - I'll challenge them, any day! "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on May 05, 2010, 08:35am

In these days where America bashing seems all the rage, it's nice to think there are still a few who remember America has its good traits too. Hmm...so the U.S. is to thank for all the crazy European (and oddly enough, German porn in particular) porn we have today? Your welcome. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Denner, your love for the US of A is touching, and your gratitude is warranted when it comes to their contribution during WWII and the Cold War, but times have changed dramatically when compared to the sentiments expressed by Donna Fargo. Those of us who liked the old USA are very disturbed about the latest developments in their society. I know these verses (sadly) make a mockery of reality as it is right now: "To be informed and concerned About our nation's affairs and to Voice my beliefs constructively To practice diligently An attitude of brotherly love And hold no hatred against anyone And when one of My brothers makes a mistake Be he peasant or a President I will try to treat him As I would want to be treated With compassion and understanding." In reality, many Americans and all those of us who wish this great Nation well can only wish it were indeed so because, at the moment, all we can do is watch helplessly as the ideologues, and their hatred of all ideas opposed to theirs, tear the nation apart. Three cheers for a tolerant and compassionate and inclusive America. I hope it will re-emerge and win the battle for the hearts and minds of those who are at the moment so firmly entrenched in their hatreds.

Of course, being that it's May 5th here, what are we American's up too? That's right, drinking shit loads of Corona beer, busting pinatas and donning our ponchos in order to celebrate Cinco De Mayo (Mexican Independence Day). Unless your foreign culture celebrations involve lots of alcohol, we just don't care ... unless you happen to have lots of oil or Muslim fanatics in which case we'll spend trillions just to cap your ass. Seriously, it is nice to see someone from Europe have something nice to say about America. Could you perhaps spare a few hundred billion for a bailout for us too?

Agree with the others, great post Denner. On the Cinco de Mayo part it is either American media that has created the belief of it being the Mexican Independence Day or just another one of those holidays we've created here to be politically correct since there is such a large amount of Chicanos in America. It's really more of an Mexican-American celebration of Mexican heritage. The independence part has somehow been added to it, incorrectly at that. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

Allow me to school you all about Cinco de Mayo (actually, being a lazy fuck, I just copied the first paragraph from the Wikipedia article - lol) Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May" is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[2][3] It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States.[4][5][6][7] While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[8] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day,[9] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.[10]

I find it truly odd that so many Americans would celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or anything closely related to our southern neighbors. America's history of racial problems, most recently with Latinos, would say otherwise. But of course that's the great quandary of America--we pick and choose our likes and dislikes at random. Some like 'small government' except when it comes to immigrants and gays. Some of us 'love' other cultures as long as there is some alcohol and profit involved (which are already closely related). And many of us espouse a love of the 'good old days,' as long as we get to cherry-pick what parts of the 'old days' were so 'good' without having to look at the bigger, and almost always grimmer, picture. (BTW, the 'good old days' comments remind of something I heard Chris Rock say recently: "What the fuck good old days are you talking about? If it's before the Jackson 5, I don't want hear about it." ) I don't want to piss on Denner's original thread--much less risk the wrath of Khan--because I do like hearing the appreciation, even all these years after WWII, but messmer does have a point. We really are not #1 at anything anymore, except maybe military spending and oil consumption (could they somehow be related, I wonder? ). Things have changed drastically since the days of and after WWII, in and outside of the U.S., and we are not exactly the model country I think we once were, and could very well be again. We certainly have the money and the manpower--even with immigrant 'reforms'--to lead the pack again, so the question is, do we have the willpower? I also think that it's completely American to question ourselves and our systems and say that though they may be good, they could be a lot better, and believe that we could live up to our hype again. Messmer - of course there's a lot of nostalgic in those lyrics (from 1974) and a lot could be better. Most nations have have bigots, neo nazis and other hate groups - and it's the duty of every decent human being to fight such groups and individuals. And yes - let's hope for an even better USA - the free world needs it to be strong, too... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on May 06, 2010, 02:54am

Hi Denner, I want to stress to everyone that there was no anti-american sentiment in my statement. I do wish the U.S. well. I just hate the extreme animosity that seems to exist between "blue" and "red" at the moment, with sources like Fox News, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh feeding the flames. I'm sure there must be some on the left that are every bit as inflammatory but with the exception of Bill Maher I can't think of anyone at the moment. I know it's none of my business, but we are so closely involved with the U.S. that they are not only neighbors but friends and who wants to watch one's friends bicker and fight. This is my last political statement because I know where it can lead. God Bless America!

I remember during the Bush II years being told that the United States was regarded with contempt throughout Europe. I didn't believe it then. It was just too much of an overgeneralization, and the people saying it were presuming me to be more ignorant than I actually was. Besides, if that were true, what were they doing here? I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Bush 2 definitely was--Europe hated him, hell, they still do--but not necessarily the United States as a whole. And even if they hated Americans, they didn't hate the parts of the U.S. that they liked to visit. Good thing so much of world likes Obama, even if he's not very different policy-wise.
