How old is he? I've had my tattoo for 27 yrs and it looks pretty much the same now than it did at the beginning. I don't know if the position on the body has something to do with the fading aspect. Mine is on my upper right arm so it's almost never exposed to sunshine. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

You are correct that the location and probably the size of the tattoo will greatly affect the likelihood that it can be seen if the girl or guy is wearing a long sleeve shirt. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

I'm betting it's a combination of the ink used and the aging skin--even the greatest tattoo can't prevent your body from aging. In both cases it's a question of location. A genital piercing will probably not be an issue unless the job you apply for requires passing through a metal detector every day. It might get embarassing having to explain about your Prince albert but then again it probably wouldn't bother anyone who went through the procedure. Now multiple facial piercings or tattoos that can be seen because of there location could. One of my coworkers and his GF both have multiple tattoos all over their arms and she has one covering the entire upper part of her body above her breast. I don't know if this was ever an issue with them getting a decent job but maybe they always make sure to wear long sleeves shirts orsweaters when going for job interview for fear that it can. He is mid 80s, but I know of a few people in their 50s and 60s with tattoos that seem to have lost most of the red and blue shades and have lost definition. One guy is a bit of a fitness fanatic and in very good shape, but his tattoo (just above his elbow) is very faded and greenish. I spoke to him about it yesterday and he says he got it about 35 years ago. He reckoned that very few tattoos keep their clarity more than 20-30 years (but he's not an expert on such things). Why I said "many tattoos," not all, because there are exceptions to every rule (assuming there are even rules for job interviews anymore). People always say "males should wear a suit, blah blah blah," but I'm betting this would not be referring to a bright purple suit with gold buttons and other bling. Re. Your rules for job interviews. It might very well be that a new generation is so used to tattoos that the interviewer him/herself might have a tattoo or two and they might end up admiring each others Ink!  | |
