College football

Hey guys, sorry for being late on this one. I had been working on my college football blog so much that I forgot that I had said I would post on here about my top 10.

#10 Arizona State - As always, an underrated Pac-10 team. The Sun Devils only have 2 games that should worry them, USC and Georgia. If they win 1 of those, they will be a top 5 team.

#9 Wisconsin - As much depth as any team in America, terribly boring to watch, slow paced football.

#8 Oklahoma - Slightly overrated this year in most polls. QB Bradford is struggling to learn the new offense and the defense lacks depth.

#7 Texas Tech - Return 10 starters from the 2nd best offense in the country, could score more than 70 in a couple of game.

#6 Florida - Hard to go against that offense they have, though the defense isn't very good they at least play in a low scoring conference.

#5 West Virginia - Too many returning starters to a team that has been screwed over in the offseason. They either soar up to here or drop completely off the map.

#4 Missouri - Should be the best team in what should be the best conference this year, the Big 12. Also have two Heisman candidates, Daniel and Maclin.

#3 Ohio State - Early season lamb to the slaughter game vs. the Mighty Trojans of USC is the only obstacle from another embarrassing title game blowout loss.

#2 Georgia - Will lose in their conference, either Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina or Auburn will get them.

#1 USC - Simply the most impressive team from position to position in the nation. The whole defense will soon be in the NFL. Plus, since this is PU, their cheerleaders, The Song Girls, are the hottest in the nation!

Oh and thanks Khan for replying on the other one. I wasn't for sure about posting a sports topic on here. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

It seems sport is the one thing that can divert the male mind from naked women. One of those research team type surveys turned up that sport actually takes first place over porn when channel surfing.

Just to barge in where no one wants me, since this thread exists, how come no NFL predictions? I have always found college a bit of a snooze simply because most of the people you are watching cannot convert to the big time NFL game, because it is so different.

Just to barge in further, for the first time in years I can see the wild card mostly favouring the visiting teams. Falcons to beat Cardinals (bit of a no brainer although I'd like to see Cards win), Colts to beat Chargers, (who can never seem to raise their game when it really counts), Ravens to beat Dolphins (although once again I'd like to see Dolphins win), and Vikings to beat Eagles (who are away from home, so at least they wont get booed when they leave the field). They are possibly the best looking, even, match ups in years. This may well be the most enjoyable NFL playoff weekend.

The Cards won! I don't believe it. Brilliant. I just hope I'm wrong about the Dolphins and Chargers matches too.

One for four - and don't I f***ing know it! I'm almost up to the quality of The Lions - who are playing more like The Detroit Spinners. If The Eagles had been playing at home they'd have still been booed off the field. That's about the only sure thing in the NFL.

How could the Vikings blow another one? - I honestly don't know. The Chargers finally play up to expectation. How the Cardinals won, I have no idea - about as likely as The Giants winning the Superbowl last year.

Hey guys, didn't realize this thread had been posted to. Sorry about not posting as much, my wife's father passed away back in November and we had to go to Puerto Rico and settle his will, move her mom here to the United States, etc...

I'm still running my college blog, but had even missed making several of the bowl picks.

It was a pretty good year overall for the picks, but picking CFB these days is getting harder and harder by the year. I consider it impossible to pick a mid-major to finish in the top 10 since it is impossible to know if the polls are going to elevate them enough to get them up there. Having said that, I did predict the Utah win over Alabama and have hit 3 of 3 on upset bowl picks in the last week. And who would have thought WVU would sink like they did against a terribly easy Big East schedule? I think what we're seeing is the elite teams separating themselves from the almost elite. Last on that part, I was at the Rose Bowl and can say in mind USC is #1. Problem is the same it has always been, the media is back to ignoring the western teams.

On the NFL, the biggest reason that I don't pick NFL is that I don't see any true method to picking NFL games these days, especially against the betting line/point spread. Too many teams in the NFL take weeks off to rest their stars for the playoffs, this screws their statistics up, so by the time the playoffs get here it is hard to tell which teams truly are good unless you watch every game.

The other thing for me is that I find the NFL boring compared to college football. We did go to a Chargers game back in September, but the fun level was maybe a 5 on a 10 scale. Which means I could have had as much fun laying on the couch watching it at home. College games on the other hand are an eight minimum on the fun scale. The crowd chants, the bands, are just amazing.

A game or team that I think every person should go see live is Penn State. We went to see Penn State play Illinois earlier this year at Penn State and you all, it started raining, the whole damn Penn State section of fans over 100,000 people stood the PA started playing CCR's song, "I Wanna Know Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and all 100,000+ started singing it in perfect harmony, the players were into it, the energy was very intense. They also do a bounce to the song Zombie Nation that shakes the whole stadium of 100,000 people. I find games like this one yearly that just fuel my love of college football.

Go by youtube sometime and do a search for "Penn State Have You Ever Seen the Rain" me and another guy both put a clip up on there of it, and you will see what I mean! My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk Edited on Jan 06, 2009, 09:01pm

argh I just posted a long msg and it got erased when the site timed out!!

Basically said USC is top 2-3 talented teams in the country every single year. But they shoot themselves in the foot by losing in conference to some very average/poor teams. When you play in a poor conference which the Pac 10 usually is these days, or the Big 10 of the last 5-6 years, you MUST run the tables in order to stay in the hunt for #1.

I used to think Pete Carrol was a good coach, but no I think he is an average coach who is a great recruitor. My reasoning is they have lost to many games recently against teams they had no business even letting in the game. They come out flat and disinterested. Thats on the coach, and its happened to often to be a fluke.

USC though always shows up for the "big games" and have the talent to be #1.
