Defrauded by adult site...would you chase after the lost money...

Hi I joined an adult site in feb but cancelled the same day as I found the content was quite poor.
I received an email saying yes we'll cancel. However i've been charged for the last two months april and may which should definatly not be the case.
Unfortunatly I paid by debit card so my card company can't do a charge back and get my money and they also said that I can't stop future withdrawels because they have the full details.

I've emailed the company and asked for my money back but am worried if I don't hear anything...

Should I try every option avalible to get my money back or should I class it as a lesson learned?
(what would you do?)

(total lost is �20 for two months and a �28 bank charge due to this, bank says it's their fault)

I've learned the hard way, don't ever use a debit card for sites. About a year ago I joined a site through Epoch, same sorta thing happened. However there were two additional charges for twice the cost of the site I joined and I had no clue what site that was for. The bank said since I authorized the first charge, they can do nothing about it even though I didn't authorize the other two charges. I've since switched banks and now use Discover card for all my adult purchases, as they have a secure account numbers feature.

So I'd try everything possible to get my money back but I don't really think it'll work.

Most of the billing companies are very concerned about doing bussiness as straight as possible.
That's my experience, anyway.
We've had discussions many times about those companies - and every time it's relevant - it's our money at stake!
Generally I think the major part of those co�s are aware of the risk of "bad reputation".
But anything can go wrong in this deal where you provide a third part with all your creditcard-infos. The best thing to do is make a note for every buy - (not all do return a mail with all datas after every buy) - Twice I've been charged for an extra month in spite of early cancellation - but, ok - that's not too bad when I look back at about 200 joinups over the last years.
Still I'm getting more and more concerned every time I provide a billing-co with my credit-card infos. What about criminals hacking those companies - they do it - and it may just be a matter of time bafore "your" creditcard-infos are for sale from some hacker in Lebanon, Iran og whatever.
Just had a tv-program here i Denmark about a hacker , yes in Lebanon, who offered all creditcard-info for 2000 danish cards belonging to people who had no idea that someone had stolen these infos via hacking... In the US credit cards give you lots of protections including ability to contest bad charges. Debit cards may or may not give you protection depending on your bank.

My experiences in general have been very good over the years with CCBill and Epoch very responsive to complaints.

Third party billers like CCBill should answer your questions. If they are not responsive, it would be very helpful for you to tell everyone at Porn Users. Who was the third party biller in your case, even if it was a debit card? Jay G

It's no joke about credit card markets. Where I work, we had a customer in Nigeria that was shipped without prepayment - I dunno how that happened! I recently sent them to Collections. They provided the Collection Agency with 3 credit card #'s to charge - each one for 1/3 of the balance. None of the charges went through. They gave 3 more credit card #'s. None of them went through. I told the Collection Agency, "no more of this crap! These people are clearly buying credit card #'s in bulk from some Russian hackers - if we ever succeeded in putting them through, we'd have some poor guy in Kansas wondering why we charged their credit card." We haven't succeeded in collecting it yet, but at least we aren't putting through charges on stolen credit card #s.

I recently had to deal with this. They of course, told me start out by trying to contact the site's customer service myself and try to clear it up on my own. Eventually, after stupid automated responses and so on from the site's "service", I contacted them again. They will almost always try to pin it on you by saying you somehow authorized the charges yourself and that you probably missed something in the terms and conditions when you signed up with the site. However, I did battle this and eventually got my money back after breaking down the story to about 3 or 4 different service reps. So, there is hope, is it high, I doubt it but I'd keep stabbing at it. I bet the more stern and a constant bombardment of calls get things done a bit more than waiting too long and being extremely patient. Good luck if you are still trying, I hope for the best. To be honest, I really can't complain about them not wanting to refund money. I've always wondered just how many people a month sign up for a site, then their GF/Wife/significant other see's the charge on the credit card bill and they try to play it off as a unauthorized charge. However, I think every customer should pretty much get a 1 time no questions asked thing. I mean it's one thing if it's the same customer a couple times a year, it's another when it's the first time for some guy in 2-3 years of doing business with the credit card company.

Yeah no doubt, just like insurance claims, there is always someone trying to scam a system and get free shit for themselves without any clear understand or care that they are screwing over people who legitimately need help. I know credit cards track bogus places with reports, so I bet if it is more than one person calling about a certain place doing these charges, they may look in to it a bit more (not sure though). It's so hard to implement something like a 1 time no questions asked because as it becomes more of a unspoken rule but becomes more 'spoken', the damn thieves and con artists will jump all over it. I wish it was easier to file claims and so on, I bet there is some sort of system and training that goes on to attempt to slow down a lot of people claiming huge claims or all the time. It just pisses me off when someone sincerly gets screwed and it's hard to explain the whole details because it's a porn site to begin with and the distrust from the service reps seems to stem from that. When I was talking to the credit card company, I kept saying 'adult entertainment' sites :) lol... Sexted From My iPad

I just found I've been charged erroneously/fraudlently for two months, supposedly by YoungModels, starting a month after I canceled my subscription there. See my comment at YoungModels for details.

Definitely try. Threaten them with a chargeback even if you don't do it. If Visa, Mastercard, or whatever finds a pattern they cut them off. Same with CCBill or Epoch. A pattern of dishonesty and no one wants their business. Don't be afraid to scream at them on the phone and be rough. Call or email them several times a day. Threaten legal action and do so repeatedly. I have annoyed the hell out of the dishonest to the point where I won.

I agree with mbaya - if you can be more annoying than they are willing to put up with, you can sometimes get the most dishonest people to deal with you.

And it's always good to use forums such as this one - any forums with porn sites as topics are good to post on to let people know that a site ripped you off. At least you can get the satisfaction of knowing that you're keeping some money out of their hands.

I just had to write one of them today. I told them "you have 24 hours before I report this to the CC Co.". I got a refund within a half hour.

It's too much---the porn world is still full of these shysters. I was on a chat with one recently arguing with this guy for an hour. It wasn't until I thought of copying the chat and telling him that--presto--the refund was given.

I'm tired of it. I don't want to demean the honest sites, but this is ridiculous.

If you've seen me fight with webmasters on here, I think you'll get an idea of what all I'd go through to get back money I was cheated out of. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

You could contact your bank and explain. You probably will have to fill in a form and provide evidence of why you wish to claim a refund. If you have been wrongly charged, they should refund you and block any further transactions from that source.

I doubt you will find a Lawyer that is interested in this sort of thing, but your bank at the very least should stop any further transactions, if you can show proof of your cancellation.

Update: The erroneous charges that I reported on 9/28 were refunded on 9/29 and the matter was handled to my complete satisfaction. No extreme measures were required -- all I did was complain to the billing company, and they corrected the error. Please see my full account at YoungModels, under comments.

Prepaid Cards only from now on, for me.

Always keep just �20-30 in there - I can top it up for less than a pound around the corner..... 8-)

The most I can lose is �20.......

Oh, and NEVER use independent processors, especially in South America or Russia.

The real problem lies in recharges.....it should be banned universally. Fraud is FAR too easy unless the cardholder authorises the payment EVERY time.

Also, there should be a link to your own bank each time so a password needs to be used, to prevent fraudsters grabbing your details and using the card whenever they want.

It is not rocket science to prevent fraud completely...an average 10 year old could devise a system better than the current one.

In the UK we have just reveived a calculator type thingey that creates a "one use only" pin number. But, at present it is only to be used on the banks website ! Pointless so far then.....

But, it could be done and made universal....any independent can leech credit card details.......and 3 months later start using it......small amounts only, multiplid by thousands of cards soon adds up, but most people will neither notice, nor care.

Bump....my this post has gone quiet !

Just had another problem with a site.

Best action...is re-action.....slate them on their review page and tell them you're gonna do it.

Then they can see other's opinions and how many people will read about them !

I just replied to a guy who is considering considering joining this site as I write.

Hopefully, he will now steer clear....so the 9.99 they ripped me for, will pale in significance to the 30 they lost from just him, together with who knows how many others, who will hopefully avoid the site in the future.

Porn Users is like the rating system at EBay...the only way to know if a site can be trusted. There are so many good and honest sites now, that dodgy ones will not survive long.

Long live PU and TBP.

Sorry I really should of replied and updated you guys on the situation.

I kept on emailing the people with no success then I tried a different email I found that was tied to them and they replied giving me a full refund which was slightly less than what I had lost but when you consider I got 4 months off access for like a few dollars it isn't so bad.

So my advice Is to do as much as you can to get into a dialogue with them, then explain the full situation trying not to be aggressive, also be reasonable with your demands.

Finally a piece of advice for webmasters:
"A happy customer will tell up to 10 people for up to a few months of his great experiance.
With an unhappy customer there is no limit on the time and number of people he tells" - some marketing book.

With sites like PU on the net, the amount of people hearing about the experience could be quite large.
