Where are the porn stars? There aren't really any porn "stars" today, has anyone noticed this and thought about why? Everyone knows who Jenna Jameson is because the production companies made her a star. These days you know Sapphic Erotica and Bangbros are great porn sites but do you know who the performers are when you come to PU to give your review? No, of course not. You know there was a girl named Lori or Laura who was hot but that's it. Sometimes they don't even give you a first name. When they do it might be different from the first name she uses on another site. Even PU and TBP don't have an option to search by pornstar, probably because names mean nothing these days. My opinion is it must have something to do with money. The 80's and 90's style American porn stars probably had better deals and bigger stakes in the porn companies. These days the business model has changed apparently.

That isn't completely true. I'll prove it by naming just a few stars that have come into the market in the last 12-24 months: Sasha Grey, Whitney & Britney Stevens, Bree Olson, Alexis Love, Alexis Texas, and I could name many more. Here are a couple of reasons why you might think that performers (including some of the ones I named) are never going to become as well known as Jenna Jameson or a star from bygone years. 1-Websites like to have the exclusive, so when they hire a girl for a certain type of scene, it's to their own advantage to use a different name and pretend that they are filming her first scene(a kind of born again virgin). 2-Girls change manager quite often and the new guy wants to promote his girl as being new, when in fact she's been at it for a couple of months. So new agent, new name and we play the born again virgin. 3-Just compare the amount of scenes/movies that pornstars do in a year today compared to the amount from someone in the 80's or 90's and then you understand why most girls burn out within a year. Sure we know her now, but as soon as she falls of the radar. We quickly forget because there is a new flavor of the moment to take her place. 4-The sheer amount of sites currently available makes it next to impossible for any one of us to follow a specific girl/star as she goes from one site to the next. Even if she retains her name, do any of us have as large a budget as it would require to be able to collect all her scenes? Long live the Brown Coats.

I seem to find the Euro girls more of the star quality. I have a list of stars that I look for on any new site I join. Eve Angel, Sandra Shine, Aneta Keys, Sophie Moone, Zafira, 3 of those have major solo sites to their credit, Aneta has some small solo sites of her own, but not like Eve, Sandra and Sophie have. Also, Sandy from Club Sandy. Weird thing is, I don't recognize hardly any of those names that Pat listed. I do Bree Olson and Alexis Texas, but the only reason I recognize Alexis Texas is because I have a video of her and Eva Angelina in a threesome. Eva Angelina has to be pretty close to being a superstar. I have around 75 GB of movies of her and know that I am missing probably another 75 GB. Interesting topic Goldfish. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I think that the definition of a porn star is changing from what it used to be. There are certainly a lot more recognizable girls in the business today thanks to the internet and it is the internet that in turn feeds the need for more new faces and scenes. The once taboo nature of the porn biz has faded a bit today. It's not longer enough to be in a few movies and have a bangin' hot body. You need to have the business savvy to go with it. All the big names from Jenna Jameson to Bree Olson to Sandra Shine, etc. all do things differently today than the stars of yester year. You got to have your own website (which means you have to own and produce your own content), you have to have your material on several other megasites, and you have to market yourself on the web and in more traditional formats. Most "managers" of porn stars probably won't take it to the level it needs to be and the big production companies won't let the stars own their scenes. Most porn stars probably don't have the sophistication and career longevity to pull it off. As such, it becomes harder to stand out from the crowd than it was even 10 years ago.

Zafira is great. Maybe there is some name recognition in the current market.

I don't have any porn star favourites. Sure there are some models I like more than others, but I am not a fan of anybody in particular. Honestly, as a fan of softcore, I prefer the casual 'I'll try nude modelling' candidate who does it for the cash / buzz of it. Cap'n. I still maintain the title "porn star" isn't what it used to be. There are a few of the Euro models that pop up fairly regularly. They only go by first names so they're not worth listing.

Is it possible that today's porn star isn't the same as those from by gone years because they simply don't have any staying power? How many new girls came on the scene in 2009 and how many are still there? We've watered down the title porn star to the point where anyone is a porn star with at least one tittle under her belt. Long live the Brown Coats.

As with Jenna Jameson, who was promoted by Vivid & Wicked, it usually takes studio backing to make a porn performer a big name star - and then the willingness of the performer to work their ass off to take advantage of every opportunity they get. In terms of becoming a widely-known star, it takes a lot of promotion in addition to the on-screen work. Digital Playground is a mega-promotion machine for their contract girls and certainly Jesse Jane has had the benefit of their backing to become pretty broadly known. Sasha Grey is interesting in that, to my knowledge, she has never been a contract star, yet her performances have been intense enough to bring her wide popularity. Jenna Haze had JKP behind her for years, but I think she became a much bigger star once she left JKP and started turning in such amazing performances for everybody with a video camera and a check.

Not to mention a rather large role in a non-porn film, even if the role is a call girl and the film is independent. I don't even think Jenna can claim that (yet). "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I don't think the term Porn Star necessarily means that she's actually a "Star". These days, I think it just means she's a girl that does porn. With the shear number of girls involved in the industry today, it's hard to stand out anymore. You could browse thru porn sites, video/dvd shops, videos and magazines 12 hours a day for the rest of your life, and I guarantee you still won't find half the girls that are actively involved in porn. Kinda makes you wonder what that sweet girl you just met at Starbucks that said yes to you taking her out on a date may be, or has been up to... (porn-wise)
