Why won't some mp4 files play on my TV? I am ecstatic in connection with my new TV and the fact that I can play 1080p mp.4 movies with crystal clarity through a USB port. I have noticed though, to my regret, that some sites' videos will not play. Can they embed something in the file that will stop it from playing on a TV but, more importantly, why would they do that? Couldn't that mean increased business for anyone who features high-grade HD videos in their archives? Some folks like their Porn 42" BIG!  This is one of the reasons why I just re-subscribed to Bangbros. yesterday, even though most of their content leaves me cold. They advertised 1080p HD updates in their tour and I thought I'd grab some videos containing models in attractive lingerie. Trouble is I am still trying to find a 1080p download. All I get is 720p. Drat, I wish there were a present subscriber among us who could guide me to the 1080p downloads!! I threw out a comment to that effect yesterday but nobody even nibbled on that one. But to get back to the original question. If DRM is gone, then what is stopping some sites' HD mp.4 videos from playing on my TV while most sites are doing just fine? | |

No doubt someone who knows about TVs will chip in. My guess is that it depends on whether the mp4 video is 1080/50p or 1080/60p and whether you are on a PAL or NTSC TV set respectively. | |

I've never tried to play video directly on my television, but I do know from Windows experience that, in addition to the many different file types, every audio or video file requires a codec to play. If your system doesn't have the right codec installed, you won't get sound and/or a picture. Unfortunately, there are also different codecs that can be used to create a video file, .mp4 files included. The only thing I can think of that would keep your television from playing the files in question is that it can't read them. As an analogy, look at the iPods. They use a proprietary codec so that they only play on Apple hardware. In case you don't know, codec stands for Compression/Decompression Module. In simplest terms, it's just software that is used to create and playback audio and video files. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity. | |

I think RB may be correct and you simply don't have the correct codecs to play those files. I have a Blu-Ray player and the manufactorer recommends that customers check to see if their are updates for the players OS. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

Thanks, claypaws. The site was North American and my TV operates on the North American system (NTSC?) so I don't think that was the problem. | |

Thanks for your quick replies, guys. I think RB might be right about the codecs so I'll just let it rest there. After all, I have plenty of mp4 files from 21Sextury/Sextreme and Young.Legal.Porn etc. that will work on my TV to keep me occupied for the next 6 months.   | |

You know that .MP4 is just a wrapper for a variety of Codecs? Many codecs (such as h264) have a variety of options such as interlacing, bitrate, reference frames etc. Televisions support an increasing number of codecs and options, but it's very unlikely that your television supports all of them, especially the latest variations. I doubt the website supplying the videos is deliberately blocking their videos playing on televisions. I can't even think of a reason why they would do that. ^I don't think they could because a TV capable of playing a variety of video files is simply doing what computers and video players do. The codec is more thanb likely the problem and unless the TV can't be updatd then the maker of the Tv will surely come up with a uploadable software upgrade to fix the problem. Thank you, Ed. And I believe you are right. It has to be a missing Codec on my TV. Since I found out, to my delight, that it even upgrades itself periodically I'll give the non-playing mp4 files some time and try them again sometime down the road. | |

I've had the same problem with my PS3 and there are a number of workarounds. For most HDTVs and "smart" TVs (as opposed to the ones held back a year in school) there's a lot of information you can find on various tech sites about all the proper color settings, audio settings, and other adjustments you can fine tune to make your favorite porn, er, non-adult movie look its best.

Thanks, turboshaft, I'll have a look. My only problem so far with this smart TV is that I cannot get a very good stereo sound through my headphones generally. I could with its dumber cousin! Good news in other respects, I wrote earlier on that my 720p files played in a smaller window only but found a way, in the meantime, of viewing those HD files in full picture as well .. and they look good!!
I don't mind being an amateur gynecologist as long it is not at the expense of all the other views and angles! | ||

I don't know why it wouldn't sound good through headphones. It could just be the headphone jack, a certain setting buried somewhere in the TV's menus (like a choice of headphones or speakers or external sound, etc.), or maybe the headphones themselves. The problem with watching porn on a big screen is that you probably don't want to pipe the audio through a sound system unless you live in a house with at least a little space between you and your neighbor's place. These smart TVs are also getting complicated, turboshaft! I have yet to find a way to mute the sound while wearing headphones. I have to turn the TV sound way down and adjust the volume through the headphones. If I turn it up through the TV, not only do I get sound through the phones but from the TV as well. There is no way of switching to headphones from speakers, my only option is speakers. Got you confused yet? Who knows the solutions to all these little problems may be in the menu somewhere I simply haven't come across them yet. BTW, I also found out by (gasp) reading the manual that I could play wmv files through the TV. However the manual stipulates that they have to be wmv9. Know any sites that carry wmv9 files?  | |

My Tv is connected to my network and I can play video files to it if they are in the correct format... So far the only way I've found would be to convert the mp4 file to a file your TV understands...try a programme like Any Video Converter (I downloaded it free but it does have limits unless you upgrade) I'm sure there are other programmes too but I would try out the programmes before purchasing to ensure its a path you are happy with...Seems to take a couple mins depending on the size of the video being converted. | |
