Digital Desire

Friends at TBP and PU....

TBP has today a/another new review for Digital Desire.
But, - I do not get it..
Here at TBP we get a new 91.6 average-score of this site.
What's new - compared to the earlier score at TBP?
That I cannot find either.
Please help me out here, TBP and PU: I'd not like to think, that TBP has economic interests in DD - though I'm not blind for the fact that TBP has to exist someway - moneywise...
But a 91.6 for this site and: why a new review now. Nothing has changed in real life here.
And the "Vanessa-rewiev" at 94 and the words: "You'd be crazy not to join"...
Honestly, folks! This site is JUST average - maybe less... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on Jul 19, 2008, 07:41am

Only three general comments because I have not, nor will I, subscribe to this site as it is set up at present. For reasons, see below:

a) no mixed site (photography and video) should ever have a 1 Gig a day download limit. You can download a fair (non Hi Resolution) amount of pics for that, but, if you are interested in their videos at all (especially since they offer a high quality option), that would push your frustration level to the boiling point because you'd constantly have to check how close you are to the limit. A 1 Gig download limit with today's vastly improved quality and therefore vastly increased file sizes is ludicrous.

b) there's no way I would subscribe to a site with either drm or a download limit or both ... period ... and

c) two dollars off the regular price ... wow! What a deal! :-)

P.S. Thank God for this forum. This is one of those posts that would be inappropriate anywhere else. :-) Edited on Jul 19, 2008, 10:40am

Khan, if you're looking in, could you please get your reviewers to check their facts a bit more closely. I just got finished with my rant in connection with a 1 Gig a day download limit on DD when I came across the webmaster's reply to toadmix back in April proclaiming that the limit was 2 Gigs! That's the second time I am being embarrassed in connection with inaccurate information picked up straight in TBP. Thanks.

Best fellow PU:
I forgot about the 1 Gig download-limit a day - and that makes it even worse...
Thanks for that one, messmer...

I agree that 91.6 is over the top for this site. Scoring into the 90's is saying that the flaws are very few, and I don't see that with Digital Desire.

In addition to what Messmer pointed out, there's:
-recycling of original content (it goes on to this day)
-piecemealing of photosets (the first-of-the-month set has bits in THREE different places, and we're only getting started on this point)
-irregular photo sizing (max size could be 1024, 1280, 1600, or 3000). Irrritating!
-photo zips available only in the max size (and the way you find out is by downloading)
-non-exclusive content going BOTH in and out of the DD shop (their stuff shows up sometimes, for example at Twistys; stuff you've seen elsewhere shows up at DD)

They are offering a good price these days of $18 per month, which is a great buy for someone who's never been a member -- but they'll have to count the gigibytes, which isn't too big a deal but it is something of a nuisance.

I give scores in the 90's to sites that don't have such flaws: MetArt, FemJoy, and Babelicious. The last is a site of non-exclusive material, but they do it all so well they deserve a high score.

Anyway, Digital Desire is hardly in the same league. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Hi Drooler, where did you get the $18 per month subscription price from? TBP mentions a special discount for our members at $ 22.90 per month. Just curious.

Even still... 2 gigs?? I can do that in half an hour if their servers are fast enough. Your reasons still stand.

I just looked at DD and it's not there. I'd gotten the offer through an e-mail from them. Sorry. I'd just forgotten that. It's for new members as well as returning ones:

"We're offering a special $18 monthly price to all new and returning members that join directly through this mailer. This! is an amazing price compared with our regular $30/month. Simply follow this link and sign up while this offer is available:

http://www.digitaldesire.com/?nats=NzQwOToxODox
"

NB: This was dated June 17th, but it looks like it's still on. Once you click the link above, click on the top LEFT of the page (not the top right) to get the special offer price. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. Edited on Jul 19, 2008, 03:27pm

Thanks, Drooler. That explains it. I still wouldn't subscribe for the reasons mentioned above. 2 Gigs a day in this day and age is too little. I've subscribed to quite a few sites since last year, none of them had drm or download limits and I'm gonna keep it that way! :-)

I was a member of this site several months ago, see my review which is linked in Denner's orginal post. I never encountered any download limit issue, and was not even aware of one. Where is the limit indicated on the site? I have a feeling I went over 2 GB per day on several occasions, and never had a problem. Is this limit new?

Anyway my review still stands, I gave them an 84. I agree that TBP review score of 91 is too high, however for fans of glamour content this site is pretty good. And right now they have a price of $18 which is an excellent deal for what you get, IMHO.

Also another fact: DRM is no longer used by the site. Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb. - Batman

The download limit of 2 Gigs a day is indicated by the webmaster himself in a reply to toadmix' review in April. See original remarks above. The 1 Gig limit is listed under the TBP reviews for the site near the bottom of the review.

Here's the problem we ran into ...

We went searching the site for their download limit information, and found comments inside the member area at http://www.digitaldesire.com/members/sta...c/support/zipped.php It states, in part: "
When a user downloads more than 1 gigabyte (1000mb) per 24 hour period. Our systems automatically block that user for 24 hours from being able to download video or zip file content. "

So ... regardless of what the WM tells us/you in a reply, as long as they list that limit on the site itself, that's what we have to show in the listing. When/if the webmaster makes the change on the site, they're welcome to notify us and we'll update the listing accordingly.

Hope that helps explain why what you see in our listing doesn't always match what the WM will tell you in a reply. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Sounds like a job for the Federal Trade Commission's Truth in Advertising Task Force! ;o)

Seriously, I agree completely with TBP's policy of reporting the limitations stated on the site, even if they are contradicted by actual experience or by WebMaster statements.

Digital Desires is on my B List of sites to try. It's not on my A list because of the step pricing (extra charge for HC content) and also the DL limitation.

[For what it may be worth, my A list contains sites that I'd sign up for today if my budget wasn't already maxed out; my B list are those sites that look promising but that have a klinker or two that I need to give serious thought to before going to the Join Up screen; and my C list are those sites that have gotten good reviews on PU and TBP but that I haven't really checked out yet.]

Thanks, Khan. In that case your staff is certainly following the right procedures in order to get their information and the webmaster is clearly wrong by not removing information that is either outdated or by providing false information. Other users yet have stated that they never ran into any limits which adds another probability: maybe they don't want to encourage their members to download too much at one time. In any case, thanks a million, I knew I could count on you to follow through!

Glad to help guys but want to be sure the credit for the leg work goes where it's deserved. I *did* report the problem to the reviewers/editors and I *did* report the finding back here. However, it was one of the wonderful TBP Editors who actually ran down the specifics of why the listing contained that info.

Still, glad the PU/TBP team was of help on this one. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator
