If a Woman Watches Porn and Oprah Notices, Will Things Change? Well, just recently I was in conversation on this very board on the thread "Is Porn Too Mainstream" and I started talking about this idea of porn women like. Out of that I got wind of an interest in women's preferences and we started trying to produce a list of porn for women. Some here at GameLink tried to argue that women don't watch much porn, but I got permission anyway, and today my hunch was confirmed in a big way: Today on Oprah, I predict we see a turning point. I knew all along that some women watched porn, but if this goes the way of everything else Oprah touches, well, things are gonna change guys. Can we imagine one day the "Oprah Adult Movie Club?" http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/oprahshow...ationships_sex_284/6 Look at these stats: Oprah says that "Of the 50 percent of those surveyed that said pornography has affected their sex lives, 72 percent said it has been in a positive way.... Research is now finding that women are on the verge of an entirely new kind of sexual revolution. In the $12 billion adult entertainment industry, $1 out of every $4 is spent by a woman." Would love your feedback on the show and suggestions for adult movies for our list I am making. Any of you guys watch porn with your wife? Just curious. I think that if the stats influence the way that porn is done, it will be for the better. I think that a stronger female influence on porn would make it more sensuous and less "mechanical" and formulaic. Maybe I'm sticking my neck out making this kind of prediction, but it pales in comparison to what Oprah is doing. Once again, she's fearless, this time in bringing this topic into the mainstream, but it's about time. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. | |

Women have always been a significant part of porn so I am not surprised that they are spending 25% of the money fueling it, but kind of hard to believe anybody would realistically think that "women don't watch much porn." No, maybe not as much as us guys but probably more than thought. The industry today seems very male dominated -- even if women make up the majority of the stars it's still men who make up the majority of the decision makers; directors, webmasters, producers, etc. More women, as both consumers and producers, could have a very positive influence on porn and steer it in the right directions. I think if there were more women directing and making porn it would attract and keep good talent; models could be shown more respect, and, like Drooler mentioned, it could make it more sensuous and interesting. And if more women were watching porn, that is if people knew how many actually were, it could make for demand of better material. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D.
