Top Porn-Friendly Countries

As I was reading through some of the thousand or so of Cyber/ZombieToad's threads he has been digging up from the forum graveyard, his new one, Porn "Fun" Facts, got me thinking about what countries are the most friendly or at least legally lenient towards our favorite pastime. Since we have members from some pretty far flung corners of the planet as well as many continents I thought it would be interesting to hear some of various opinions about who might have it best.

Now just judging from the map on 'Toad's above mentioned thread (it's at the bottom of the image), the Middle East and much of central and western Asia look to be stuck in the doldrums of adult entertainment, as well as Indonesia, Cuba, and parts of Africa, so if you live in one of these places, what the hell are you doing on PU?! Just kidding, we feel for you and hope your country can wake up one day.

Now not to bash the U.S. too much (I've done my fair share throughout the forum) but even if we produce the most in terms of quantity we don't exactly have the most lenient stance when it comes to actually selling and distributing it, much less allowing all sorts of Max Hardcore-style acts to take place. Don't get me wrong, we've got plenty to choose from, but what gets companies and individuals in trouble here would in much of Europe get no response except which aisle to shelve the material for sale.

I mean this literally; I have been in shops in both the Netherlands and Germany and have seen that his videos were not the most extreme, maybe the most extreme American, but not the most extreme overall. So I would put Germany and the Netherlands up towards the top, along with Denmark as I have heard they are quite open as long as the performers are at least 18 (Denner can probably enlighten me here).

I put the U.S. in the top 10, but definitely not number one or even in the top five. What are PU'ers takes? "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I think Germany's the number one permissive country. I've seen more off-the-wall and bizarre porn coming out of Germany than any other place. If Japan didn't still have that mosaic law, I think they'd be a close second.

Bash away at the U.S. all you want. We're still trying to appear like we're puritans when it comes to sex. My favorite example was the Clinton/Lewinsky debacle. People were all up in arms here because he got a blow job. Meanwhile, the rest of the world was laughing that we were making such a big deal about it.

Except for places like the Middle East or China where the Internet is controlled does it really matter? If you publish on the Internet it is extremely accessible wherever you are (if you have a PC and Internet connection.)

As far as creating the porn I don't consider the amount of extreme and twisted porn a sign that country is more open to it. I think some regulation for the safety and health of the people involved is fine.

Here in the Czech Republic we have sex shops open 24 hours a day, which are not tucked away in seedy parts of town. For example in Prague, you are likely to see the "Erotic City" chain of sex shops while walking around the centers tourist attractions.

You can also buy hardcore porn dvd's in most news agents for a couple of dollars. Open pretty much any newspaper and your will finds ads selling porn, escorts flaunting thier goods or porn agencies looking for models. I have also found that the attitude to placing and replying to ads on dating sites looking for no strings attached sex is considered very normal.

Not too mention the numerous brothels that are openly advertising on billboards thoughout the city. This is a very open country when it comes to anything sex related which is probubly why most of the girls are willing to try almost anything

God I love this place The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I would say yes, especially when you have people crowing about how free their country is, 1st Amendment rights, greatest country on earth, etc., but won't hesitate to draw the line at dirty movies and pictures in order to lock someone up for being 'obscene.'

I know we've argued quite a bit about Max Hardcore, but regardless of what you think of him, the idea that he's even in jail is pretty embarrassing. The coming Evil Angel trial is another waste of time and money. The laws to protect minors are there, and probably scare the shit out of anyone who thinks they might have accidentally violated them. Other developed countries--most of whom have looser porn laws than the U.S.--take the whole 18+ issue pretty seriously as well.

As far as "regulation for the safety and health of the people involved" I wouldn't hold my breath. The history of American worker safety is not a pretty one, and considering the way sex workers are viewed by much of the country, or at least by its moral crusading lawmakers, I'd doubt much would be done about their well-being. If we can't even agree on providing access to basic health care for every citizen, what's the chance we're going to give even a passing thought to a porn actress' safety?

But you make a pretty good point here:

The ultimate democracy--that of the free and open wallet--is where people really make their voices heard. The U.S. has some pretty restrictive porn laws but the sheer size of the industry (just within the U.S.) makes it pretty clear that there is a market of customers who really don't care about the laws. They want their porn and they want it now, damn it!

I even heard theories that if the U.S. were to tighten the porn laws then there were be some serious economic consequences. This is the great conundrum of porn; no one wants to admit to their personal tastes in order to to protect and maintain them. Sort of like all those politicians who wanted to hang/impeach Clinton for an extramarital blowjob when most of them were in fact having affairs of their own. And with the Internet, puritanical sex laws have a lot less meaning. For example, in Iran porn is supposedly called "Super Film" (I love that name) as it has quite a dedicated if illicit 'following' on the 'net.

Ultimately people vote with their boners and libidos rather than their prudish public conscience. I would add that this is even more dangerous because if you totally outlaw porn than what incentive is there to use only adult performers, or even have consent for what's being shot? Zero tolerance is zero thinking and it never works. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. This one is hard to answer. Eastern Europe is pretty permissive mostly because the governments choose not to enforce their anti-porn and intellectual property laws. The Dutch, the Czechs, the Swedes are generally pretty tolerant. The US isn't bad unless you're trapped in some rural bible belt hell where the livestock are the victims of most porn inspired fantasies.

The internet is really a big equalizer. So long as you got a connection to the web you can pretty much see what you want to. Even if you live in some web authoritarian country if you are somewhat knowledgeable you should be able to find a way to connect to a server in a freer country and surf at will. Without technology you're pretty much stuck rubbing the stub over 9th hand photocopies of Playboy that make it into your village.

Turboshaft, Woh! I was just saying porn is easy to get to. LOL.

BTW, there are basic labor laws and laws against certain types of sexual acts that can be hazardous in the US so though they may not be what you envision, they are there. I brought it up because a lot of the freaky shit in the German porn isn't allowed here on US soil.

No problem.

I am still betting the laws you refer to are only there because certain acts would be hazardous to your criminal record. I still think it's 'morals,' not health and safety, that fuel most porn worker laws. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I do agree there is a stigma over anything related to sex in the US. I personally would like to see it become more legitimized. There are worse things to condemn and ban.

Seeing that you are from Oz can you explain to me why the police would raid one of the most innocuous porn sites (Abby Winters) one could find, if the country is that porn friendly?

I didn't hear about that. Anyone got a link to a news article on that one?

I thought Abby Winters was softcore? (I wish they'd reply to my e-mails.) Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I'm guessing he's referring to the raid a while back (Dec '09). I think there's a copy of the article in the thread ...
