Video: fast forward problems Anybody has this problem - now and then (with SOME clips/full videos): Some of my videos have this problem (only some): When going for fast forward (like scanning the entire thing) the screen is getting totally blurred - and it takes maybe 10-20 seconds or more before it's clear again...no matter whether I use VLC, Windows Media (classic or new) or Gom Player... Since it's ONLY with some videos/larger clips guess it's not my pc... (BTW: it's both real old vintage material and new ditto) Any ideas? Sounds like a codec problem, maybe un-install current players and codec pack. Download and install K-lite codec pack. It should have everything you need. Are you using matroska codecs? If so, check for the latest versions. Large files need to buffer before playing, your page file on your computer will only hold so much memory, you can enlarge your page file by going into your system settings. My VLC player is acting up just the way Denner describes. My WMP player plays the files just fine but seeing that I prefer VLC because I can adjust the sharpness and therefore have it set as my default player I don't want to switch to WMP. If I took your advice and downloaded a K-lite codec pack and installed it would that solve my problem with VLC? May be a stupid question, if so my apologies. P.S. I did enlarge the page file but the problem persists. | |

It should fix the issues with VLC as well as WMP. Download the codec, enlarge you page file. Set up and re-start. You may have to set VLC as your default player again. It might be your processor speed. I had the same problem but the same version of VLC on another machine plays the video fine. | |

I have the feeling you might be right! I installed the codec, did great for the day but experienced difficulties again the next day. VLC is really unpredictable. Yesterday there was an area of distortion on the bottom of most videos, yet with WMP the picture was fine. Wish they'd change WMP so that the sharpness of the picture could be adjusted. I find that most videos downloaded from places like VideoBox, Videosz tend to be not "crisp" enough. | |

If the codec is "Mime Type: video/x-ms-asf" which usually uses a "WMV" extension, I'm afraid the distortion you see when "indexing" (moving the slider bar) is just the nature of the beast. I've found if you cut the video down in size, it solves the problem for the most part. But I have no idea why. | |

Thanks for the tip, Tom. Trouble is the distortion starts from the moment I click on play. Next day I might play the same clip and it displays as it should. That's why my suspicion that the fault lies somewhere with my processor as GlassHouse suggested. Or maybe it's with the latest version of VLC, come to think of it? I was fine for a day with the codec pack I had downloaded then VLC offered an upgrade and ever since I have problems again. I read in some forums that VLC had problems with ATI graphics cards but assumed that they had corrected that in the meantime????  | |
