Streamin Sucks and Then Ya Die. From indiviual models to full blown sites, I hate streaming videos that do not offer any downloads. I know its to keep you rejoining, but I find keepers I would love to collect at time and cant. I just did areview on a site were teh streamings were better then the downloads scene wise atleast to me. I just wondered what others do and does it tick you ff to join a site to have 1/2 be streaming? Toadmix. Since 2007

I've noticed that once the progress bar on a streaming vid is complete, the vid plays again and again just as if I had downloaded it. So I tried something once with a streaming vid. The fact is, it HAD downloaded, but it was in ...\local settings\temporary internet files. So I opened that folder, clicked OK when the "security warning" came up, and then sorted by "last accessed" at the top of the list. Sure enough, that video was there, albeit with a strange and cryptic file name. Mind you, I'm not suggesting that anyone do anything that might be illegal, such as dragging that video file to "My Videos" or some other place on your hard drive. Actually, I don't even know if that is illegal, but it might violate the terms of your subscription, which I'm sure you have read. I'm just pointing out that "streaming" can mean downloading for temporary use on your "local"/client machine. It makes sense. If the streaming vids were run ONLY on the host server, that would really put a strain on it, I would think anyway. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. I rarely if ever will join a site that only has streaming videos. There are programs you can get now that capture the streaming feed and convert it to a file to save on your computer. I tried a trial of one of them maybe 6 months ago or so and it worked like a charm, but I don't remember the name of it.

Firefox addon "DownloadHelper" has managed to download all streams that I have thrown at it. The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Frank Zappa

I'm not a fan of the program, but you can use Realplayer. Just get the free download. When your streaming movie is playing, you hover the mouse over the upper-right corner, and you'll see a popup tab to "Save". You can also just right-click inside the body of the screen and save.

There are sites that got wise to both RealPlayer and Firefox' Flash and Video Downloads but many will still let you download streaming only contents until they find a workaround. Edited on May 03, 2010, 02:56pm

Go to www.orbitdownloader.com for the best free flash recorder I've found. Like any other program or add-on, it won't pick up some video because, as messmer said, some sites are getting wise and using a protocol that needs a newer program to be captured. If I'm not mistaken, the problem is usually with Adobe streams using the rtmp protocol. I did a little Google searching and there's supposedly new software that will grab it. I'm leary of that claim because I've seen other software that's made the same claim, I've tried them, and they don't work as advertised. One was Moyea's Windows Media Recorder 11 - the rest I forget the names of. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.
