CANCEL

I place this with capital letters - CANCEL - for several reasons:
At a time where we're all a bit tight with our money, I get more and more consious about my memberships, payments and cancel - and especially the way to get OUT of a membership (without paying more than you intended to). AND, I know we've been around this question before, but anyway:
Most of us PUs feel somewhat secure with "good ol'" CCBill and maybe Epoch too.
But lately I've found sites with other - and new billing-co's. First time I ever joined via Netcash, btw - and when it's first time, man, you expect the worse - maybe without reason.

But my porpuse here is a quest - maybe again - to collect what other PUs have been through when trying to GET OUT of a membership and still get bills from some of those companies - who probably only have one interest: getting your money!

I still find new companies on new sites - independant or not - but down right: I'm worried - and some sites I do NOT join only because of what this user could consider/fear an unsecure billing service...

To be honest, I've never really been worried about them not cancelling. Granted I almost exclusively use CCBill. I also use Discover Card and their Secure Account Numbers. Which means I can create a new virtual CC number anytime I want. It is linked to my actual CC account but the billing companies get nothing but the virtual information. The advantage to that is I create a new one for each site I join, so if something happens I'll know exactly what site is still billing me. Then all I have to do is dispute the charge and tell Discover to cancel that virtual number. Makes it alot easier then having a company that just keeps charging you to the point of you having to completely cancel the card to get away from them.

I generally join sites with good customer service, or at least those not considered bad. Thanks to this site I can do that with some confidence. When I cancel I usually give at least 7 days notice. If I do not get a confirmation I continually email and pester until I do. If I do not get a reply I then email and add that I will be contacting my credit card company to challenge any further charges. If it got worse than that I would contact my credit card company and, if necessary, cancel my credit card. This would cause an awful lot of annoyance to the credit card company, who would then pass this on to the website. I haven't really even got close to that stage. Basically what has happened is that my cancellation has gone through and I have been notified. If I don't get the cancellation confirmation, I just end up being a bloody nuisance until I do get some sort of reply.

I haven't had any problems, but I have stopped going to one network, Tasty Pass, because they changed from Epoch to independent billing. I really like their network of sites and joined 3-4 times last year, since the discount is only $12.50 a month, but I just don't trust most sites that use independent billing. I did have an account that went over for about 6 months because it was a lesser known billing company, and I forgot to cancel it, you had to send them an email and I just forgot. I've seen the other side of it too and it does make me worry a little with Epoch, in the last year, I have had 4 Epoch sites that I canceled, not charge me, but continue to give me access after the subscription runs out. In all 4 cases, I played the good guy role and sent the sites an email to let them know that I canceled, but still have access. That shows inconsistency on Epoch's part. Oh, I do trust ALS Scan, they are independent, but they send you a receipt and a thank you email when you cancel, telling that you canceled. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. Hate it when these sites require early notice to cancel -- a legitimate and easy way to keep people as members if they are not aware of the last day to cancel.

The only problems I've had with cancelling so far is brazzers/mofos own new billers manstermed, who conveniently lost my details so I couldn't cancel. Their customer support regarding this matter was extremely poor.

Also, Local Billing have re-charged me at the end of a non-recurring membership. They did apologise though(unlike manstermed)and said it was a computer error then gave me a refund.

No probs so far with cc bill or epoch.

Aside from Private.com, which was a complete rip-off experience, I haven't had much difficulty in cancelling any other sites with their various payment processing plans, though with Dani.com, it took direct communication with their C/S, who were very responsive - like within 15 minutes.
