Password protection?

How can one block unauthorized entry into Documents (my "C" drive) and D drive as well?

I'm no computer guru by any means but it seems to me the easiest way to address the issue would be (if you have a Windows OS) to set up an administrative username and password that must be entered every time you log onto your computer. I believe that there are settings where if you leave your computer unattended for a period of time that you then need to re-enter the pass word (a time out function) but I'm not sure. Otherwise there is probably 3rd party privacy software you can buy that would protect certain files. Others will probably have better suggestions here (Toadsith would probably know).

this would be when I let someone use it to do their own thing, but can't get nosy when I'm away, and start looking into Documents, etc.

I protect all "sensitive" material with an encryption program. Mine is called Kremlin by Mach5. It's a bit time consuming to encrypt large files like high quality videos but rather that than giving access to porn to another user of my computer. When it comes to hiding Porn Sites from inquisitive (read younger) eyes, I use a Portal (eg. iGoogle, My Yahoo, My Netscape), protect it with a master password through Firefox and list all of the sites under "My Bookmarks" in there.

Probably the most secure way would be to put your porn on an external drive that you could simply unplug and put in a lockable enclosure (like a filing cabinet drawer) when you were going to be away. That way you don't have the complications and slow down of encrypting data. Complications being the unfortunate incident of losing your password somehow or a minor hard drive error destroying an entire encrypted archive (if your encryption program works on batches rather than single files).

If you are worried about lists of what you've been looking at on the drive showing up in the recently opened documents section of the XP (assuming you are using that OS) start menu, just do the following: Right Click on the task bar and select "Properties". Select the "Start Menu" tab, and click the "Customize" button. Select the "Advanced" tab and then uncheck the check box next to "List my most recently opened documents" and then click the "Clear List" button. Click the "OK" button on that window and then again on the previous window and you should be safe from that problem.

As for bookmarks and cookies, there are ways to hide that - you can put a separate instance of Firefox on a removable flash drive and only browse porn via that. That method keeps the host computer free of any trace of your activities what so ever. Many a guide for doing this can be found via Google, but here is one I found quickly that seemed reasonable enough:

If you feel like going all out, you can view your porn through an encrypted data stream certified and used by the US Department of Defense. The IronKey - they take portable data security to the extreme with a plethora of software and hardware protection - to the extent that the drive will self destruct if attempts to hack it are made. They sell with it a one year subscription to their secure data stream service. It is total overkill for most people, but I'm sure would serve your needs just fine. Check them out at: http://www.ironkey.com/ "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

There are several programs that allow you to password protect a directory in windows 7.

You can also encrypt the files and folder with win7 pretty easy just depends on what you want to occur.

If invisibility is what you are looking for there are option to make virtual drives that can not be seen at boot and put your stuff in there.
