Recurring charges Was wondering if you guys could shed some light on this, now a lot of sites have the option of joining for say £30 but if you can choose to join for £27 a month if it automatically rebills. Now what I get a little confused is that some sites seem to let you cancel straight away and not pay a rebill. But with some sites it means you're stuck with a minimum of two months. Is all sites that offer two prices makes you pay for two months? Is it just sites that automatically recharge but don't have two prices that you can cancel straight away? Does it vary from site to site? | |

It seems that some offer a recurring subscription at a lower rate for subsequent months. Others charge a slightly higher premium for non-recurring billing. I have not heard of anyone charging for a minimum of two months, unless you cancel after renewal falls due. Unless it actually says in writing that you are signing up for two months you should only have to pay for one month at a time -- hence the word "monthly" on their sign-up page. Otherwise they are trying to screw you! The reason so many sites offer a slightly lower monthly price with auto rebilling is that they are taking advantage of customers' forgetfulness, hoping we are sloppy with our subscriptions and don't cancel until it is too late. I have missed a few rebills this way, and used the extra month to load up my collections. (C'mon, admit it: we've all done it.) Normally they allow you sign up with the automatic billing option and cancel pretty much anytime, or at least up until two or three days prior to when it should rebill, and you only pay for that first month. Off the top of my head I can't think of a site that would offer monthly sign-up options but still charge for two months at a time. I would call that lying! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Thanks, reason I asked was that I was stung by a site awhile back by missing the small print. Just wondered if it was widespread or not. Thats good, gives me more confidence to sign up to another site. thanks for the info guys. | |

One thing I have noticed of late. Watch for the regional pricing by the likes of CCBill.
