Any advice about software for editing my collection? Anyone out there edit their collections? I'd like to edit some of the best scenes out of larger videos, perhaps making compilations, but was wondering what is the best software for doing so. Also does the software edit ALL formats (including real video, etc.) or only windows media player? Any advice from those who've done it? Jay G

I don't really do much editing. If I do it is just to move from a difficult-to-play or poor performing video codec to a better supported one. I usually use VirtualDub or Avidemux (both great for dubing and recoding though not that great for putting scenes together). Just FYI: If you are new to video editing... depending on the length of the videos you want to edit, codec used, resolution, and bitrate of the video and audio you may need an extremely fast computer or be prepared to let it do its thing (encode) for hours, days, or possibly weeks. Encoding video is a very processor-intensive. Processor speed, number of cores, and amount of available memory, and (depending on the codec used) the power of your video card can also affect the time it takes to encode a video.

I use software to cut and join videos from boilsoft.com Works very well for me and it doesn't change the quality in anyway since it keeps the original file format. Avi to avi, wmv to wmv, mpeg to mpeg etc. Boilsoft offers free trial for their software. I don't know what the limitations are, other than time limitation, but it is worth a look.
