RE: Erica Campbell

I was embarrassed by the comments made about Erica's change that she courageously announced in public recently. Porn consumers are always insisting upon tolerance for our hobby. But when you demand tolerance, where do you draw the line in giving it? I think it's blatantly obvious she has been traumatized by her experience, and it should make us thoughtful instead of defensive.

Hey JD

I honestly do not think the reactions are a matter of tolerance/non-tolerance in this case.
I believe there ought to be space for a grain of humor - the humor reflected in the comment about Erica is in my opinion not meant as a "put down" - in any way. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on May 15, 2008, 09:06am

As the author of the original comment, let me say that I intended it to be as neutral as possible.

I think that people joining a solo model site should know it when the model has quit the business. This case is even worse because, if the statement is true, Erica Campbell now has extremely strong opinions against the whole adult business.

Hey jd. I started the criticism of Erica Campbell on the comments and I wanted to defend them here. I considered her action self-serving and a strike against the people who work in and consume porn. Because of that I was inspired to spout a little dry humor.

If she wanted to leave porn for greener pastures she could have left sans the Web pronouncement of how bad the industry is and how good the church is. The message is judgmental. I was just judging back.

That said, I have no hard feelings against EC and I wish her the best.

JD,

The first thing I want to say, and do not mean it in a degrading way is that there is nothing traumatic about Erica's letter. She made a choice to be a porn model. She made a choice for 7 years to be a porn model. She made the choice to take the money she was paid to be a porn model. She also made the choice to leave the business.

She was not forced to do any of this. For something to be traumatic, there cannot be choice. For example, a person gets in their car and doesn't say they want to be in a wreck, but then are in wreck against their choosing. That is something that traumatizes them. A person walks outside and gets shot by a stray bullet, they didn't chose to be shot, so they are now going to experience traumatic feelings anytime they walk outside.

Erica made some decisions that she now thinks were bad ones. Who hasn't done that in life?

As for tolerance, I could care less if people judge me for liking porn. Just like with Erica, it was her choice to be in porn, and it is mine to like it.

The only problem is she is now acting like she is the first woman to leave porn and is going to wake us all up to the darkness that we are too stupid to see. It is in layman's terms, holier than thou bullshit. If she really had these bad feelings, she would give up a large percentage of her money to a religious charity, since that money was made in what she is now calling a terrible way.

Most of all, it will be interesting to see how long it is before she writes a book and then starts appearing on tv shows to spread the word. People will praise her and tell her how great she is, while she rakes in stacks of more money. Look at Sky Lopez these days, she gave up porn because she found religion. The next year she had a record deal to record a pop Christian cd. Does anyone really believe she would have gotten that deal if not for her being a known pornstar who gave up that life of, "sin"? I wouldn't expect Erica to use this as a stepping stone, but then again, she could have said she retired and went on about her life. Instead, she writes a note on a site telling about how bad the industry is and how lost people are that are into porn. Including her fans. Does she really believe that she is the only person that has had the right to be religious bestowed upon her? I guess she didn't figure out that was a choice too, that she could have made years ago.

I have no pity for the self-righteous.

By the way, the site with her message on it, isn't even her official site. Her official site ericacampbell.com is still up and running. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk Edited on May 15, 2008, 07:19pm

Yeah - what exotics said. I'm not going to claim a lot of tolerance for holy roller BS where adult models who just showed off their gorgeous bods are now talking about how they have to beg forgiveness of the lord for their sins. What sins? Did they abuse somebody along the way? If so, that's a whole separate issue than posing nekkid. And the idea that women who pose nekkid are committing some great sin is BS, as far as I'm concerned. So I don't see what's so dang "courageous" about Erica coming out with this nonsense. Someone seriously messed with her head - that's my opinion.

If women make their money in porn or stripping or escort or whatever in order to go to school and then move on with their life, I have total respect for that. If women decide that they no longer want to do what they've been doing, as with Courtney Simpson, and just go off and lead their non-porn life, I've got total respect for that. When someone wants to make grandiose statements about how they have to beg forgiveness and bla-di-bla-di-ba, well, sorry but that's a bunch of sanctimonious crap.

Just go live your life, Erica. Have fun. Take care of yourself - and don't try to convince the rest of us that you have now found "the golden path" that we all must follow or something.

Here is my personal view on Erica or for any other person that decides to leave porn. Good for them if they've found another occupation. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone of us would wish for a member of our family to have a career in porn. I enjoy watching porn, but every time I hear of a tragedy because a performer killed herself, got a serious decease or is abusing drugs then that makes the enjoyment so difficult. Most of the girls that leave porn do so with little if any money in the bank. If Erica decided that porn is a sin then it's her opinion and like us she's entitled to it. If she decides to go on a crusade to help girls get out of the bizz or never get into it, then aren't we better off since any girl who's unhappy about her situation is likely to do one of the above stated actions. The fact is that Erica could scream at the top of her lungs and still we will get tons of new girls coming into porn. What we may see is less sad stories like Karen Lancaume, Alex Jordan, Savannah, Megan Leigh, Shaun Grant, Haley Page, and so on.

The bottom line is if you enjoyed Erica when she was in porn than just be grateful that she gave of herself for you enjoyment, and move on to a new girl. Long live the Brown Coats. Edited on May 17, 2008, 07:04pm

I didn't even know about this Erica Campbell business until I read the thread about jd1961 a few moments ago. First, I wonder if the site quoted by jd is genuine because I just went to the official site to check and it's still up and that despite the fact that Erica Campbell is listed as owner (at least by TBP/PU.) Now to the point I'd like to make:

if her conversion is real it shouldn't be mocked!

Many of us realize at a certain point in our lives that we've taken a wrong turn and decide to head in another direction. As a new Christian (if the story is real) she would see the Porn industry in a different light .. even we who aren't involved get a glimpse now and then of what's going on behind the scenes on late night TV (Debbie does Dallas, Seymour Butts, Porn Valley etc.). There are a lot of sleazy characters involved in the skin trade and this would certainly cause a certain repugnance in someone who now feels spiritually compelled to turn her back on her former life. She should be understood and forgiven if she comes across a bit preachy!

Let's wish her well and let's hope that the next girl we look at is in it wholeheartedly and not just because she needs drugs or is messed up in other ways (according to Erica).

My porn consuming days would be over if I ever thought that my favorite model was doing what she is doing reluctantly or against her will.

The sex slave trade dried up in the US a long time ago. I doubt she was forced into anything.

Lighten up, this is supposed to be a fun site! ;-)

I didn't say she was forced into anything. Nor do I see my reply as a downer. Just a reasonable plea to go easy on the girl! :-)

My 2 cents. Whoever thinks she's doing it for money only: IMHO it could be, but I strongly prefer to give her benefit of doubt. Is there a chance that this site is honest? IMHO yes, and it means (for me personally) that I will consider it honest and take it with respect until proved otherwise (and if she'll start making money out of it, that will be completely different story). Motto: "All niches except for boring one!"

Just wanted to add some newer news. Erica still hasn't shut down her own site that she owns. Erica Campbell, which you can still join and pay $25 a month for. If she has retired then she is ripping new members off since her main page says nothing about her retirement, which would mean no new updates.

We have been talking about the ethics used in the porn business, and I think this is a perfect example of poor ethics practice. The site she announced her retirement and newfound religion beliefs is one of those low level sites that has the word, "Club" in front of her name.

If she is serious, it makes no sense to me that she would still have a site she owns, still running. To me that is not only unethical, but also is hypocritical. If you do a google search for Erica Campbell, that official site comes up first. The one she announced her religious future, isn't listed on the first 100 results, also she has a site called just cluberica.com, dropping her last name that has a list of links to her site as a webring, and it has no mention of the site with the letter on it.

I don't think there needs to be anymore proof than the fact the site registered to her is still running that she is still making money, and there is very little in this industry that will spark interest more than an announcement of a retirement.

Last, and I think this is important. I've never been a big fan of Erica, as I'm not a fan of big boobs in most cases. I have no reason to bash this girl and wish her the best, but I want to see that site she owns shut down if she is going to have me believe this is true. She says that her members are in the darkness, isn't she just enabling them even more by keeping her site running? My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. What I'm about to say might strike one as very cynical, but I've lived through enough to know that it is possible: that the religious conversion text that we've been discussing wasn't even penned by Erica at all. It could have been written by someone else for the purpose that you describe, with or without Erica's knowledge. Or it could be for real. We really don't know for sure.

There are wheels within wheels, and what we can't see is just as important as what we are shown. I just think we should take it all with a grain of salt (or a statue of salt? ;) until we see what transpires over the next few weeks or even months. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Erica Campbell is indeed a fox. Hers is among the most excitingly curvaceous bodies in the porn industry, and under the right direction there could be no limit to which her career could reach. But Erica's heart isn't in her work. Despite her fabulous proportions and her bright smile, if you really study her you'll likely come to the conclusion she has a distain in general for what she's doing and for men in particular. One of her favorite gestures, and one she uses often, is sarcastically mimicing a man's hand masturbating as she goes through her routine. This derisive tone is sublimely demonstrated routinely in her clips. Small wonder men have pitifully little or no part in her videos and pictures.
