The last thing I saw in her in was a season two episode of Louie, playing a somewhat exaggerated version of herself (much like C.K. does). She was a ballsy old lady. She was blacklisted by NBC from the time that she got her late-night show on Fox in the 80's until she did Celebrity Apprentice a couple of years ago. She worked everywhere and anywhere she could and fought to be respected by her audience - hecklers beware! I can't say I was a fan of all of her work - her fashion criticisms were just mean-spirited drivel, in my opinion, but I admired her never-say-die spirit - and she gave back to the Gay community, which had always supported her with years of work on HIV/AIDS issues, raising money, delivering meals to people that were unable to leave their apartments... | |

I saw a clip the other night of a very young Joan sitting with a very young Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. The were talking about what was wanted from a female comedienne. Joan said it was sex that was expected. Johnny disagreed saying it was a sharp mind that was wanted and expected. Joan gave him that look and said " Johnny, no man ever put his hand up a woman's dress looking for a library card.
