Sorry you found it too long. I tried cutting it down while putting it together. But my professor insisted on keeping it longer. Another student in my program has a survey on the Internet which is 45 minutes long! Makes mine look like a sprint  thanks for taking it though. | |

I'm not surprised considering how angry people get just doing reviews and comments on Amazon. I guess as long as people think they are anonymous the sky's the limit on cruelty. it's true...I don't get why people can't be nice. If you don't want to take it then don't...You don't need to be mean! One person went as far to say that I am uneducated and that my recruitment script (the part of the first post I made which says 'i am inviting you...blablabla') unintelligent and poorly written and that my university shouldn't let me do research. wtf! people need lessons in being kind! | |

Rachel, you've stumbled onto one of the biggest reasons why I use this nick. I'll save you a trip to my profile and explain it for you. I love Humanity but, invariably, people just suck. There always seems to be someone right around the corner, trying to fuck things up. Unfortunately, this is an education you won't find at any university. Along with what turboshaft said about anonymity, you'll find that kindness isn't a requisite for being alive - or online. Assholes abound. That leaves you two choices. Ignore 'em, or stay away from the Internet. Actually, there's a third option that I wouldn't recommend, and that's to go head to head with 'em. That's a hobby of mine, but it gets old after a while. I'd recommend ignoring them and just go about trying to accomplish whatever it is you're trying to accomplish. I'll take this opportunity to mirror a couple of the thoughts that have been thrown out here. The survey is a bit long and I seriously doubt you'll get many honest answers regarding underage porn and beastiality. Eliminating those two topics would help shorten the survey and probably give you a more accurate picture of the subject matter. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity. | |

Thanks for your opinions! People may not be honest, but maybe they also will since it is anonymous. There really isn't much reason to be dishonest, but I understand underage and bestiality being topics where people don't want to answer. This is my first time doing my own research. Live and learn I suppose. This will help me for future research. I am noting peoples advise on length, questions, etc. Obviously I can't change it at this point, but I will note constructive criticism on length and whatnot in my thesis, and for future projects that I develop! So thank you! I really do appreciate comments!! And yes..I am trying to ignore the comments...since obviously I can't stay away from the Internet lol. One of my main life philosphy is to try to always be nice even when people aren't nice. It's not always easy and sometime it's downright hard but at the end of the day. The fact that I was nice throught my day makes me feel good and I also don't agonize about a certain situation where I think I might have said or done the wrong thing to someone. Another reason is that I've found that when I'm nice to people that aren't necessarily nice. It annoys them and drives them nuts and that makes me feel good. It's bad of me but those people only have to change their attitude and they won't find me annoying....Well at least less annoying. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

I haven't yet. I stayed off the forums yesterday after being torn up by amazon! haha. I was thinking about looking at porn addict sites today. Think I should just google "porn addict forum"? and thanks for the good advice pat! I agree with always being nice!! those mean people will get their karma! | |

As mentioned elsewhere, I'm guessing replies from there will be somewhat biased. What are the user's beef on Amazon? I've never looked at their forums. I've only used the site to purchase books and other various things. I could see if you were promoting porn or calling the people on the forum Internet addicts would upset them but you are simply taking a survey. Maybe the bestiality and under-age stuff takes them off guard? (I personally would have shaved that stuff out of the survey. I'd think legal porn or Internet addiction would be a large enough scope in itself without adding in those odd ball tangents.) | |

This may sound improbable but I happen to think it's true: the politest forums by far are found in Porn sites and right here in PU's forum. Maybe it is because we feel like a persecuted minority at times, (see the thread re. AW), so we tend to band together a bit more. We are also reminded daily of how different we are from each other through individual reviews and comments when it comes to personal taste, and this creates a certain tolerance for views that are different from ours. The few times I have seen nastiness here has always been in connection with suspected spam. Out there, in the Usenet groups, as well as in the remarks following articles in the various newspapers or magazines like People or News Sources like CNN, there is a cynicism and nastiness that is breathtaking. I guess Amazon is no exception.  | |

The funny thing is tho...i don't think any of them even opened it. They tore apart my recruitment script and said it was poorly written and that any academic institution shouldn't allow such poor writing. I'm pretty positive nobody even opened to get offended by the questions about porn. My university tells everyone that anything used for data collection must be written at an 8th grade level...I wanted to tell them to just contact my IRB if they really have a problem with my research script!! haha | |

I took the survey but my answers may not be fully me since I noticed a few questions I felt should have been broken up into multiple questions. So I felt some I ended up answering one part of the question more than I was answering a second part of the same question.  Can't remember what the term is but I saw a recent study about surveys having that problem... Also, congrats on your Masters!  | |

Most search engines will get you in the ballpark...but google is the all-knowing granddaddy of them all. It's a simple matter of typing what you want into the field. Example: "study on surveys" or just "surveys" or anything else specific to your needs. Single entries are more effective. | |

Okay, we clearly care about our respective favorite sites and genres, all while remaining powerless--maybe as much as the UN--but I would argue that we are even more civil. Nobody (at least that I know of, but we're online so what do I know?) starts banging their shoes on a table or walks out in anger and frustration, right?
