RAR files?? A site I joined has a great deal of pic sets offered in RAR files. I downloaded a program for opening this type of file but I cannot figure out how it works. Bear in mind I'm a techno-retard. Anyone familiar with this kind of file? And to add: this site is dismal in many ways and a scathing review will be up in a few days. They work like zip files. In fact, I think some of the newer versions of winzip will unpack .rar files. I know winzip 11 pro will unpack them since that's what I use. Whatever program you downloaded should allow you to OPEN the file and then unpack (or unarchive) the files w/in. There's an easy to use program Winrar - it's free - get it here: http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3...2250_4-10007677.html "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I've been using 7-zip to uncork the .rar bottles ever since Messmer recommended it. It's freeware and it's easy on your system. 1. Download the file 2. Right click on the file and choose 7-zip 3. Choose "Extract files ..." 4. Let it do its stuff It has also opened zips that the built-in Windoze utility couldn't handle. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

7-zip is the program I downloaded. However, right clicking does not bring up this option on the menu. There is an "open" button, but no "open with" button. Clicking open just tells me that "Windows cannot open this file." Could it be the file is corrupted? It is right size-wise, at over 4 megs. BUT...downloading several HD vids from this site has presented some strange problems too. The vid once dl'd will say it is 300 some-odd megs, but when you go to play it, it jumps to fifteen minutes into the vid and you can't play the first fifteen minutes even by fishing around with the progress button. Plus, most of this site's HD vids will not download. You get a little icon that says it's 347 bits in size. I've dl'd thousands of vids from other sites so it's not something I'm doing wrong on my end. Scathing review to come shortly!! This guy runs a real user-unfriendly site, though the girls are gorgeous. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Sometimes a file download will fail and you have to try again, but I think you already did! I know 'cause I'll get that tiny file size and know that it didn't succeed. I usually just "replace" the unsuccessful "runt" file with the second download attempt. (Has happened to me sometimes with Penthouse zips, for example.) But if it just continues to fail, as you say, it's not on your end of it. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Yes, this happens frequently and I do just as you said you do. But with these HD vids, some of which are over a gig in size, I've tried several times and only end up with the "runt" file. This happens on MOST of the hi-def vids at this site. I'm about to email the person who runs the site. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? Dl'd another rar file, and per Exotics4me's suggestion in the thread Wittyguy linked to, I tried converting the file to a zip by renaming. This seemed to work, but when I go to extract files, it tells me the zipfile is empty! 39.99 USD for this! You know what I hate the most about selfish people? Okay, the webmaster told me he uses WinRAR 3.30 to unpack the rar files, so I went and got it and it seems to be working. I seem to have dl'd an "evaluation copy" of that program. You can use it for 40 days free, after that you are expected to register it. The program will still work after 40 days but you will get a registration reminder every time you open a file. Try re-installing 7-zip, it should work for RAR files and its completely free. If after re-installing you still cant double click on a rar file to have it open in 7-zip (or right click and choose extract with 7-zip), click start / all programs / 7-Zip / 7-Zip File Manager. When the program has loaded choose Tools / Options from the menu. You should get a new box pop up that lets you tick which files you want to open with 7-zip, make sure RAR is ticked. Then select the System tab and make sure "Integrate 7-Zip to shell context menu" is ticked. then click OK, close 7-zip and try to open the RAR file again. The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Frank Zappa

Thanks BadMrFrosty, but I will definitely have to copy your post and refer to it while I try to do all that! I don't think my review will be as bad as I suggested, though there are some major drawbacks to this site. Just out of curiosity, why would a webmaster prefer to use rar files as opposed to zipfiles? I'm assuming that it takes up less server space? You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Just an update: If you do not want to pay $ 29.95 for winrar (or have to get along without paying and a little more work - AND, BTW: this winrar homesite also got that currency shit, so for Europeans it's: Euro 29.95) Normally paying for shareware is the decent thing to do, but this currency deal - again, again and again - nada, this time. So: - I've just downloaded a great rar-freeware: Rarzilla Free Unrar. Can be downloaded from here: http://www.philipp-winterberg.com/ (no virus detected) Believe it or not - it's even more simple to use than Winrar...If you just want to unrar downloaded files...
