Facebook Twitter / Social Media I have noticed recently that there have been attempts by some adult websites to move into mainstream social media. I am not so sure that this is wise. I don't use it myself at all, but I know folk who do & I would imagine that they would be wary of compromising their wholesome clean social media accounts with reference to our more secret side displayed around here! ;0) Cap'n :0) Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award Hilarious Post of the Year 2010 PU Award ( I would have preferred it to be Helpful Post of the Year for Guys who Hate 'Retail Therapy' ) :0/ Sanity is in the eye of the Beholder!

I know that many performes have twitter accounts but these are less about their porn career and more about their life in general. I don't follow any in particular but whenever I visit one then all I read are discussion about going shopping, partying or just hanging around. Porn can do whatever it wants because they aren't the ones that will make themselves more accepted in mainstream media. I find that porn is only good at getting talked about in mainstream media when it's bad news which sadly is a pretty regular thing these days. Long live the Brown Coats.

PU is a much smaller and more manageable community than Facebook or Twitter, which are for everybody. At PU, we tend to "know" each other better than people who "friend" you at those huge social media sites. And plenty of "friendly" F or T members are trying to use it to make a buck, whereas we at PU are forbidden to promote for profit or spam or shill. The only "legal tender" that we might enjoy are raffle winnings, which are subject to the mysteries of probability. I much prefer PU for the reasons outlined above. We can exchange views and info and not worry about it getting too crass and commercial. I think we spend a fair amount of our days trying to control how much advertising and conning we are subjected to, as well as interpersonal phoniness. To me, PU is an escape from the harsh and avaricious world. The social aspects of Facebook and Twitter are just thin pretexts for self-promotion and pocket lining. And that's fine for those who like or need it. Glad I don't feel that I have to join in. And let's hope that porn remains unsavory enough in the minds of the general public that TBP/PU will never "go public" with an IPO or any of that. (Can you imagine?) I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. Edited on Sep 02, 2012, 01:28pm

I don't see any negative to a business (and that's what porn companies are, a business) joining social media. If their updates on Twitter or Facebook or anywhere else can somehow net them a few more subscribers a month than they had otherwise, I don't see how that's not a good thing for them. And if you think that it doesn't net them subscribers (if they're doing it right), I'll just say that you're wrong. Also, you'd be really suprised at how open people are willing to be. Lots of people, as a matter of fact.

Well if you don't care about what your friends & family think. That was the point I was making. Go ahead. Cap'n. Solution: Just make separate social media accounts for tracking your porn interests. Personally, I hate Facebook, so I use it as little as possible anyway, but what little I use it for is for friends and family. My Twitter account is solely for tracking porn stars, but it wouldn't be hard to setup a second twitter account for following non-porn related folks. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" TBH I am not interested enough to have one. I was just a little surprised that anyone would compromise their accounts, but if you are using a seperate account I suppose it is a non-issue. Cap'n. Most people I know have several Facebook/Google+ accounts. There's certainly a lot of adult oriented activity on Facebook, but I don't know anyone who uses their mainstream Facebook to get involved with that. Don't forget that adult sites need customers (a LOT more than frequent sites like this) so they have to go where the potential customers are in order to get them. A few years ago, people used to get online after work, check their mail, browse a few regular sites and then go off surfing for whatever took their fancy. These days people get online then check their social networking accounts. For a lot of people that's pretty much as far as they get - a whole evening will go by replying to friends' posts, playing Facebook games, laughing at funny photos/videos/jokes posted on the social networking sites etc. Social networking takes up a growing percentage of online time and adult sites are suffering because of it. They are trying to adapt and that's what you're seeing. The shape of the Internet is changing and adult sites simply have to change too. Things like Facebook are indirectly censoring the Internet.
