Another of my favorites from my childhood passes away. Not many left. Farewell Mr. Nimoy. You certainly lived long and prospered. Warning Will Robinson

It's not logical, but that's beside the point.

He was type cast as Mr. Spock, though I did see him in other TV shows before Star Trek (notice no mention of the movies). I just recently saw an old Perry Mason re-run in which he played a creepy killer.

And of course there was Mission Impossible on TV, etc. etc.

Who was going to play Spock? DeForest Kelley, who wound up as McCoy instead. Adam West, who wound up being Batman instead. Martin Landau, had Nimoy turned down the role.

I wonder if Spock would have become as iconic a figure had anyone else taken the role. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

^Only old farts like me will remember that Nimoy was in Mission Impossible for a couple of years.

The only movie I remember Nimoy being in is 1973's Baffled in which he played a Psychic race car driver.

It may be true that doing Spock on Star Trek sort of typed cast him but it certainly didn't prevent him from doing plenty of other roles and how many actors can truly say they helped shape pop culure. Long live the Brown Coats.

Sad to see the passing of an icon & a genuinely decent, likeable man.

Anyone else recall him in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" ('78 version) or the TV series "Fringe"? Other than "Spock", those are always the roles I think of him in. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

^I had forgotten that he was in Invasion of the Body Snatcher but then again it's never been my favorite so maybe that's why. I think what is often quite strange in watching any Non-Spock Nimoy content is his smile. He so rarely smiled as Spock that seeing him smile always felt kind of strange. Long live the Brown Coats.

Go to Internet Movie Data Base and you will see he kept busy. Surprising how much work he did. He always seemed to return to some sort of science fiction, either movie or TV. Warning Will Robinson

^I think that's the price he paid for playing such an iconic character as Spock. It may not have pigeon holed him from doing other roles but it for ever meant that he would mostly be offered sci/fi type roles. Long live the Brown Coats.
