Why so few porn review sites?

Hello,

I am a member of several cam sites since years, and when I experienced some issue I searched on the net if somebody else has had the same issue.

What I found out is that there is almost no site for customers/members reviews with an active forum (Porn Users is the only one I found, and I am happy about it )

The only (other) review sites I found belong to one of these two categories:
1) cam sites review from the cammers standpoint (almost all the discussions pertain to customers or to the pay)
2) blatant sponsored fake review sites, without any discussion forum, only listing the main characteristics of the cam site and its pros.

I always tried to guess why (real) review sites are so rare.

1) are customers so happy about porn sites that review sites are not needed?
2) porn sites in some way "boycott" review sites? (conspiracy mode on )
3) are customers so basic that they don't feel to make any review?

These are some great questions. I will try my best to answer some of them.

1) I certainly wouldn't say that review sites are not needed but I will say that because of consolidation of the industry over the last decade, along with people much more comfortable with buying online, has taken away a lot of the mystery behind sites. Some of the older forum members can speak to this, but back in the day you would have practically ZERO IDEA what was in the members area of a site as the tours were too generic to tell you anything. That, plus most (but not all) of the shady webmasters have fallen by the wayside. So, the average surfer has a much better idea as to what to expect.

2) Some porn sites DO boycott review sites, or will only be reviewed under incredibly requirements so narrow that it's simply not worth the effort. Fortunately, these are exceptions and not the rule. In fact, sites LOVE the readers of review sites because they are A) more knowledgeable about the content which typically B) makes them stay longer as members and C)recommend ideas/features/changes that,. when applied, improve the overall membership experience which brings in more members. If you are reading this, you are considered a "high quality traffic source."

3) I wouldn't say basic, just more comfortable with buying porn online (see #1). Think about it like this: You might have been nervous the first time you bought a membership to Brazzers ("What will I really get?", "Are there any hidden fees?"). But, you liked the content, you didn't get any unexpected billings and your experience was great, so you stay for 3 months. Cut to a year later and you're interested in Brazzers again; a lot of that initial hesitation is gone. You would read our reviews or PornUsers thread to see where it is now, but you are pretty sure you will buy anyway. At that point, the review is more for info updates.

I hope that answers your great questions.

I think that as far as getting regular everyday folks to review any kind of product, it can be hard to motivate anyone who either absolutely loves or totally hates what's on offer. And sometimes these types of reviews seem biased based on the person's emotional state.

On Amazon sellers had to resort to giving their products away to people to review. And, of course, Amazon put an end to that practice even though those reviews also carried a disclaimer. I thought sometimes this feedback was almost more honest because without having spent money on the item, the reviewers were less invested in the products. Some literally just wrote matter-of-fact lists of pros and cons without giving any recommendation to buy.

At any rate, what is so cool about PU is that there are some truly passionate and experienced individuals who know how to write honest and thorough reviews. Sure, I read some of the other review sites (I mean they're a great way to score some discounts), but I always feel more confident when I can also read about the same site here.

There used to be a lot more porn review sites but most of them were beyond horrible when it came to truthfulness so visiting them was useless since you either learned the hard way that they were lying by joining one of their top rated sites or luckily realised they were lying and saved some money. TBP was the only second site that I discovered was honest in their review. The other site is long dead and sadly I can't remember it's name but after discovering TBP then I stopped visiting that one because TBP was superior.

I imagine that it must be really hard for any site review to make a profit because there are simply too few new sites being created and you can only review the same site so many times before the reviews become redundant. Long live the Brown Coats.

As a potential first time buyer, the 'fear' of the unexpected, specifically unexpected billing or signing up to the wrong thing, or getting stuck with a decade of auto renewal etc. is huge, so the reviews are very welcome.

Will I use them in the future, yeah, the insight from current users is always worth looking at. If I read a review of Netflix this week, I doubt I would sign up!

If you read the fine print of any contract it's a discouragement from signing. But contracts are the way we transact business, so they're pretty hard to avoid. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."
