Maybe I'll get an answer here?

A couple of days ago I noticed that every time I clicked on the icon for Porn.com my tab in Firefox would read: "Porn: Free XXX Tube Porn." Where does the tube part come into play and why doesn't it simply read "Porn.com" on the tab. Usually when you click on a site, that's what you get, the site's name and definitely not a reference to free Tube Porn!

I left a comment at the site hoping that someone at TBP could clue me in but no one responded.

It looks like what you're seeing is just what the site (porn.com) is putting in their "Title" Meta-tag (of the html page) We looked into it and while it looks like they may be trying to *appear* as a tube site to search engines, the site itself is still focused on being a pay site.

Just in case you're not aware ...

When you make a web page, you can make whatever youwant appear as the page title (and thus, in the browser tab). It's a simple matter of using one of the html meta tags. Generally, the title of the page will reflect what the page is about but there is no guarentee that'll always be the case.

Hope that helps. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

It sure does help, Khan, thanks. I knew this was a pay site (I've been a subscriber a few times) but couldn't understand how they could identify themselves as a tube site when that goes against everything a pay site stands for. If they are using this strange method to lead search engines to their site then all becomes clear.

One can only guess at their motivation (re: search engines).

But the HOW they're doing it is pretty easy. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

It's purely a guess, but maybe they are competing against an actual tube site with that name and the title tag they're using is meant to draw searchers their way.

OR -- and it's purely a guess -- they swiped the page layout from Free XXX Tube Porn and never bothered to retitle their own pages!

Have seen plenty of sites that ignore the title tag. Some of them just go default to "Mozilla Firefox" or whatever browser you're using. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Just found out something very interesting about Porn.com yesterday, Khan. Out of curiosity I typed porn.com into the address bar (bypassing you for a change) and found that Porn.com indeed offers free porn, therefore justifying the site title now listing "Free Porn," except that the "free" is streaming only.

I then checked through TBP and found that I could stream every single one of their videos in medium quality FULL length.as well. The Paysite part kicks in if you want to download or stream in better quality. A Tube site as well as a pay site all rolled into one!

I would bet my left ball that "porn tube" is one of the most common search terms on the planet. Having a porn.com domain combined with liberal use of the tube keyword would likely bring them a lot of visitors. The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Yes, I think so too. I guess that's how they can keep their subscription down to $ 9.95 a month. Originally I was baffled because when I clicked on their site icon in TBP my tab would read "Free XXX Porn Tube" (or something like it) now it reads "Free Porn" which still strikes me as a bit ironic since it is being listed under paysites. It is a paysite if you want full benefits but I wonder how the folks at TBP react when they see the Free Porn in their tabs. After all to them the word must be anathema.

Search engine optimization at a simple level, that's what I guess it is. They just want more hits.

You'll perhaps be happy to learn that as a result of your report here, the TBP Editors have pulled the listing for porn.com

We don't list tube-type sites even when they have a members' area. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Thanks, Khan. I am certainly not unhappy about you pulling the listing because they have acted in dishonest ways in the past, see my comment re. updates. It was downright deception, pure and simple, with older contents being re-circulated as new material. Until they started doing that I thought their site was good value.

Just a P.S. The fact that they were a free porn site with a members' area might finally explain why their download speed was so erratic. Too many users on the same server at times. Edited on Aug 11, 2011, 10:56am

When I first sought out porn on the internet, OMG I looked at free porn sites and the first one I ever looked at was porn.com - I even joined them for awhile, but they have just gotten porn from other people with them not ever doing any original material. It is what it is. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.
