Satellite Porn? There is a rather paranoid poster at ATK Aunt Judys who lives in Europe and refers grimly, with the voice of disgust and doom, to the dangers of "Satellite Porn." It is his contention that its misogynistic and brutal contents might lead to the banning of all porn in Europe .. where the sentiment for banning appears to run quite high, so far as he is concerned. I asked him politely what is "Satellite Porn" and got the "polite" answer: "What cell do you live in?" (Thank God for the members of PU) I still don't know what he is talking about, he praises ATK for being woman-friendly, and condemns Satellite Porn for being too viciously woman-hating and hardcore. Here in Canada we have cable TV where one can subscribe to some porn channels (a la Videobox), one also gets some Vivid or Wicked late night movies that have been toned down for couples. The same thing can be said for those who watch TV via Satellite. So my British and other European friends, what the heck does this guy mean when he refers to the perversions of Satellite Porn? Is this material we don't get over here in Canada or the U.S.? Please answer, because I don't ever want to be accused again of being confined to a cell!

I used to subscribe to some of those satellite channels. About £130 for a year from what I remember. Maybe it's changed in a the last few years, but to be honest I haven't a clue what he's on about. The main thing is if you get a reply as pig ignorant and rude as that, it doesn't really matter what his opinion is, because he is too unimportant for it to count.

Thanks, Squirrel! I shall take your advice and steer clear of him. As far as you can remember did those satellite channels contain any material that was harder than anything we can get through the pay sites listed here? Still wondering about his outrage?? I am also wondering if it is true that Europe is turning puritan and is in danger of banning Internet porn. I always held it up to my Canadian friends as a shining example of sexual enlightenment.

True about Europe, but we've always been behind here in the UK. You could get two years inside for selling videos or mags that were freely available in Holland, or Sweden. It's only in the past few years it's become better over here. What did it was the aforementioned satellite porn, beamed from Europe. You could either buy pirate cards or genuine cards for adult channels. Government tried to stop the wave of filth, but there were so many grey areas and so many people selling and so many wanting to subscribe, it was hard to prosecute, so we finally entered the 20th century, even though it was the 21st century. I bought both pirate and legit cards. As the prosecutions eased up it became easier to buy legit cards. It was only internet porn that stopped me subscribing to satellite. I guess satellite porn was the first generation of porn being available over here without going to prison for it. I haven't looked at satellite porn for about 6 years now, so I don't know if it's changed, but when I was watching, it was quite vanilla and plain. A few bits of spanking and light bondage, but nothing like what we see nowadays.

Thanks, friend, for making things a bit clearer. We were quite puritanical ourselves here in Canada for the longest time but then the Internet came along and made all the authorities' efforts to control porn useless. What great times we live in! Of course the question is now: for how much longer. Governments don't like to feel powerless in ANY area and usually find ways to interfere with our "vices."

And considering that Canada currently has a federal government that is harder right than the U.S., I'm sure that they'd love to make porn tougher to get. You know, because somewhere near the back of the bible Jesus says he doesn't like it...

I don't find that written anywhere. All I can see is that "sinners" (the irreligious) loved him while the religious hated him because he broke the mold. It's the way people read their own cultural prejudices into the Bible (or Koran etc.) that is scary because they are forever trying to control us with their personal interpretations.

Did the same for awhile but seemed to get zapped more often in the later days of 12foot dishes. Alas then the internet allowed it to be purchased far cheaper. Since 2007

It always strikes me as odd. Here in the UK the right wing parties are associated with increased rights and personal freedoms, and the left wing parties are more about government intervention and control (looking after people and protecting them). During my lifetime the left party (Labour) seem to have been much more anti-porn than the right party (Conservative). Just to confuse that further our centre party (Liberal Democrats) is even more pro-porn. They went through a phase recently when they wanted to decrease the age for adult material (currently 18 ) to match the age for sex (16). Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

What bizarre behaviour. Sounds deranged to me, a split personality perhaps? An odd platform to stage a rant like that, IMO. I'm puzzled. Cap'n.
