computer problems I know that we have some seriously smart people when it comes to computers and I'm hoping that one of you has some suggestions for me. We had a power failure on Friday and since then I have lost the ability to stream or download any and all video files and I also cannot update any of my software. I use IE and Firefox but the same thing happens in both browsers. The strange thing is that I can surf on any site and I see the video file but if I try to stream of download then I'll be waiting a long time before I just give up. Does anyone have a suggestion...or two?s Long live the Brown Coats.

Whenever I have PC related issues I head to the Windows forum. Usually my problem is resolved within hours. People there are quick to respond and know what they're talking about. 6 pack bitches, deal with it

Weird problem. Worse comes to worse you can do a system restore, but that should be a last resort... I agree with thedebilman, maybe try a windows forum? Everyone loves the pussy: http://www.skeet-skeet-skeet.com/

In the end I didn't need to go any further than my stupid router. I used to link the D Link brand but this is the last time I buy one of their routers. I have had some issues with it since day one but this latest one is the stray that broke the camels back. I'll go buy a new one from Cisco tomorrow. Long live the Brown Coats.

You're ahead of me. I don't even know what a router is. I bought my computer from a local company that builds and maintains them. They have several outlets and have a couple of techs in each one. If I have a problem they diagnose it and repair right at the outlet near me. I'm on my third one and it nearing seven years old using Windows XP. The XP has treated me so well I hate to replace it but I know it is out of date and each new version is hundred fold better then the last. What makes it bad is I know that with what ever new Windows software is now the grand design, my computer games won't be compatible with it and I can kiss them good-by. Curse you Microsoft! So here hoping your router is cheap to replace and remedies your all your problems. Warning Will Robinson

^A router is a piece of equipment that allows someone like you and me to hook up more than one computer to the same modem. In my case it's a Wi-Fi modem so that means that I can access the net using my ipod and tablet as wll as another computer in the house without having to be hooked up to the router. I used to love XP and might still be using it but it had too many security flaws for my taste and I opted to go with Win7. I also had to get a new computer to run Win7 and I couldn't be happier. I never tried Vista but based on my brother than that was a good thing. Long live the Brown Coats.

Biker: While I cannot speak to using Windows 8, I only know that that operating system is built for touch screen technology, I'd wait two years before I upgraded that high. One of the reasons for upgrading an operating system (OS) is that it opens up the power of a new hardware, which a lower OS cannot do. An example is that some video cards are not going to use their full potential with XP vs W7. I've been using W7 and it is similar to XP inasmuch as the learning curve regarding what you see is not that tough to master the learning curve. When I bought on my new computer I had them install W7 in lieu of W8 since on my computer because the only thing you can "touch" is the keyboard & mouse. Pat: I've been told that routers & modems can degrade in performance over time. Like tires they need to be replaced sometimes. I always thought that those things, because they are electronic, would either work or fail, but apparently I was wrong. lol - I still could be wrong. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. Jberry: It will be a while until I do get a new computer and who knows what systems will be available. Thanks for the information on W7 and W8. Warning Will Robinson

^&^^Unless what I read is wrong then Win7 is a more popular OS than WIn8 and most customers buying a new computer are requesting that it come with Win7 instead of Win8. I agree with jberryl69 that Win8 is meant more for Tablets than PC's. Long live the Brown Coats.
