Vulture Squadron ( O/T ) I heard a very interesting snippet of news on the radio today. Apparently, the German Police have run tests replacing sniffer dogs with vultures. They had three. One wouldn't fly & the other two fought pretty much constantly. It sounds like the half baked idea of a new graduate copper. Sure, the orefactory gland is very large in the bird, but overall they ain't too bright. I can imagine this conversation between the vulture & the vulture handler. Handler: Right Colombo, we need to track down this missing person. Have a snort of his handerchief & go find him. Colombo, the vulture: Is he dead then? I ain't interested unless he's dead. I don't eat anything that puts up a fight! Cap'n. Dog trainers usually really bond with their dogs. With vultures? Well, that might be telling ... I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I thought this barking mad idea would have attracted a little more comment. It looks like it is one for the vultures to pick over though. Cap'n. Maybe there's just not much to say. It is an innovation in police work, though I'd think that dogs are more trainable and can learn to sniff for more things than dead flesh. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

True enough. I was hoping to see some other bird brained suggestions though. Cap'n. This whole thing conjures up an image of the sniffer team at an airport watching vultures circling overhead to see who they are circling over. I can't imagine that a bird on foot could get around the departure lounge as fast as a dog though. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I wasn't sure whether this was a spoof or reality, but it turns out to be true, and their names are Columbo, Miss Marple and Sherlock. There's a comedy sketch in there somewhere. If only Spitting Image were still on TV. Imagine if the idea had been a success. There's a narrow line between genius and complete stupidity. That is true. I don't know who is dafter. Is it the Genius that thought it up or his Boss who said. 'Yeah, that is a great idea! Go ahead & try it.' Cap'n.
