Are the porn-snowball heading for hell?

It looks like we're still in somewhat of a financial depression - in the way that peoples money are staying in their pockets - and the earlier big spendings on - what's interesting HERE - PORN - are getting less....?
At least it seems like a lot of porn-sites are having problems getting new costumers - and old ones back.
The small sites (like Paul Markham Teens) are complaining - and the big ones (like DDF and 21Sextury and a lot more) are putting up new and far better deals. I think it could be though on those two sites in mention - having to update quite a few videos and photosets every day - it can't be cheap...
Is it the competition or the lack of lust to spend that money on porn???

I think I've said it elsewhere on here that porn in general has become somewhat boring. Except for the niche sites, we've been inundated with a bunch of porn that looks like it was written with the same script. Couple that with the economy being as bad as it is and I think they porn sites almost have to offer something to draw more customers. If they can't come up with something novel, all that's left is to drop the prices and/or update more often.

I don't know exactly how things are in Denmark, but I regularly talk to your neighbors to the north in Sweden and Norway, and they're aren't too happy about their financial situation. But, here in the Capitalist States of America? "Somewhat" would definitely be an understatement for the mess we're in. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Well, RB - funny to hear about northern Sweden and Norway from as far as you in the US - that's globalisation for you, I Guess...

About your first lines:
I think you hit it square on the head, there ( do not know if that's entirely the right expression - anyway, I could not agree more)..... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

What I've noticed are sites that either close down or, in more cases, thin out the updates. I can't say that reduced demand would the the only factor in every case, but there has been a general trend.

Nakedby, Skokoff, TorridArt, Pretty4Ever, Stunners, Babelicious, EuropeanGlamourGirls, and even Matts all come to mind (my "soft core" mind, LOL). Every one of those sites has reduced output considerably -- extremely in some cases. Like, Nakedby had only one update last month! Stunners has gone from two galleries per day to one. Matts didn't update between Nov. 9th and Nov. 20th.

Then there are the ones that seem to have thrown in the towel: ClubSilviaSaint (I don't quite buy the official reason for no more updates), BlueFantasies (two updates in October, zero this month), and Denudeart, which has been 404 for a while.

At least some sites seem to stay strong and haven't gone down the "slim pickin's --> fewer subscribers --> slimmer pickin's --> ..." tube. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

The P2P program I've been on for almost 10 years has a chat room function. With it, I've been in touch with people all over the world for almost as long as I've been using the program. In fact, the room I'm in the most right now is simply called "Sweden" - with mostly Swedes as roomies. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

If I see one more DVD site updating mostly "anal followed by the obligatory facial" material I'll gladly give that snowball a little push.

Even my favorite DVD site has been neglecting niche content lately and has joined the rush to publish mostly anal or facials or both. I can understand this, in a way, because niche content, by its very nature, probably attracts fewer subscribers, but I still feel saddened that the one webmaster I could always count on to give me an unusual DVD now and then has let himself down by going too mainstream. I keep looking every day for that one "different" DVD update that would make me want to re-subscribe but .. nothing so far.

I guess you are right, Denner. The depression is making every porn producer or distributor super cautious and those of us who have been looking at porn for a while are temporarily keeping our wallets firmly in our pockets.

I still claim that the recession simply accelerated what had already begun. The porn world was suffering from: Too much gonzo. Too many girls going the route of breast implants or plastic surgery. Too many people unsatisfied with the finished product. Unfair pricing.

I join one or 2 sites a month but I keep track of many others. Most of these is because I'm a former member and I'm just waiting for the right update or enough content to justify rejoining. Quite a few are because I might join them in the future.

Here is my list of sites that are no longer updating with actual brand new content(ie not older stuff at better resolution) or the updates are very rare:

Ass Traffic, All Internal, Tamed Teens and all of the sites under the same company. Chanta's Bitches, Fucked and Bound, Xcoreclub. Strapon Lesbians, Caged Tushy, Tushy School and all the sites under the same company. I can't be entirely sure that they are dead as much as near it since I don't keep a close watch on them anymore but since I did join DDF Production when they had that very generous offer. I'd say that most of their sites no longer update with new material on a regular basis and some simply no longer update at all.
I don't consider re-issuing older material at better resolution as actual new content. Long live the Brown Coats.

Some sites are staying strong, but strong as defined by their business plan. FigureBaby is one of them. We continue our regular update schedule only because we planned to be conservative from the start. Sites that didn't over commit or over extend their content are weathering the storm. In the process they can hopefully find interest in their niche as people get bored with the cookie cutter content of the big sites, and start to look for something more interesting and specific. We're doing all right, and lots of others will too.

Isn't "Noname Jane" on your site (as well as her own) also known as Violet Blue? (And I wonder why she goes by "Noname Jane"?) I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Yes, Noname Jane is one of our regular models. She was known as Violet Blue, but there was a legal dispute over the name. Now she's Noname Jane.
