proxy servers I understand several sites prohibit membership to people from the country the site originates in. I'm wanting to resubscribe to Staighthell, a British site, and I'm in the UK, but I can't access it to "maintain the anonymity of the performers". i've heard i may be able to use a proxy server. Has anyone had any experience of proxy servers and could let me know what I should do? how secure are they? | |

Hi manholelover, what you would need is an open proxy server that allows you to hide your UK based IP address but these are rare and mostly lame as many try to use such a server. I used some only to join sites but after I had my membership I went on with a direct connection... but beware that this might not help in case that this site always checks your current IP address. I don't know if there's a service offering proxy services with high speeds that would really help but cost some extra money. Cheers, Smut | |

Hello, I would not recommend you to use public proxy servers because: 1) They are not secure and everything you transmit through them will be available to 3rd parties including your personal details, passwords, credit card numbers - just too much risk. 2) They are slow and unreliable, 95% chance you won't be able to download a lot through them. VPN is a better solution in your case (google "paid vpn") however I assume that your billing address is in UK and it would be logical for the site owners not to let anyone in with UK credit card (if they block IP addresses from UK already). I've sort of been wondering when this topic would come up in the forum. As time goes on, I imagine that our foreign friends will be encountering more problems like this. While I've never used a proxy server and I'm no expert on them this would be my advice: 1. You're probably going to have to pay for a proxy server or do some research. By this, I mean find a proxy server based in the US or a similar porn friendly country that offers it's services for money. You could try getting in through a university system or some sort of other "free" but I think it requires a bit of knowledge about how these frameworks are set up in order to make use of it. Paying will obviously cost money but it eliminates the hassle. However, by investing some time doing internet searches you could probably figure out how to navigate the backdoors of free servers. Another option might be to by some software (I doubt the free stuff would be very effective but, again, I'm ignorant on this topic) that disguises your IP address but I don't know how effective these really are. If security is main priority then I would definitely go with a pay system. The good ones are theoretically untraceable in terms of a 3rd party being able to trace your actual IP address. 2. By a "virtual" prepaid credit card. By doing this and providing a less than truthful home address (1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC, 20500 would a good one  ) should be enough to get around the billing processors. I've used virtual cards or prepaid cards before without problem and they don't care what your true address is.3. Just be aware that if you're successful in going this route that you're probably committing a crime in your country. The odds of you ever getting caught and prosecuted are probably pretty damn small but sometimes you just gotta tug your weiner in the face of justice (insert alternate euphemism here). | |

Or you just go to a free download site and download all their stuff for free. "Maintain the anonymity of the performers." You got be kidding, Staighthell. Your performers do porn for money so they're not exactly going to be anonymous. What, they're so ashamed of what they do they hate to be seen? They're in the wrong business. | |
