The numbers of prevalence of HSV in USA are quite same like in EU, so it is really about attitude towards sexual life in general. My answer - nobody gives a damn. In EU in population older than 40 years - prevalence of HSV 1 is 80 percent and HSV 2 is 45 percent. Condoms are good, but you may have outbreak in area not covered by condom. Herpes is so common, that nobody cares so much about it.
