Just wondering what you guys thought of this one?

UK launches massive, one-year program to archive every email

"The data retention rules require the archival of all email traffic (the identities of the sender and receiver, but not the contents of the messages), records of VOIP telephone calls (traditional phone calls are already monitored), and information about every website visited by any computer user in the country." My guess is, the fine for illegal parking in a handicapped space is set high to discourage violations. If you take it to court they might lower the fine if you just didn't put the placard up. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Wow, it's official ... as of today, the forum is a year old.

Some users will recall the forum was added (after many requests) as another way for user to exchange their thoughts on pay sites they join and as a way to get to know one another better.

For myself, I think it's gone very well. I'm constantly amazed that (as a rule) the user conduct themselves in a much more mature manner than many of the forums I've managed over the years.

So, a tip-of-da-hat to you all. Thank you for helping to make PornUsers the friendly community that it is. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

It might help if you read the Announcement where we first introduced the Trust Rating System ...
https://www.pornusers.com/announcements.html#1723

While we've made a number of changes to the system since it was first launched, the announcement should give you a good feel for what they're about. Looking through other announcements or doing a search here in the forum will offer additional discussions on the subject.

If you pull up any user's profile, you'll see the trust ratings they've received. You've received no trust ratings, positive or negative. That's probably because you've never submitted a Review and most of your participation has been only here in the forum.

And no, when I spoke to you that was more along the lines of an official reminder not to promote free sites here. It had nothing to do with the Trust Rating system.

Hope that helps Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Yes, the original plan was to have points expire along with reviews. Of course, that's not how things turned out. As it came up on the first year, we talked about it and decided that reviews would be archived after two years, not one. We also discussed the plan to remove points but felt users wouldn't be in favor of losing points (and possibly badges). So, we dropped the idea of points being removed when your old reviews were archived.

The new idea of two point systems is interesting, but to some degree, sounds like you want the best of both worlds. You want to keep all points (and badges) when it comes to earning raffle tickets but you also want to earn the top spots (though with less points) based on recent activity only. hmmmmmm

As I say, the new (duel point) system is an interesting concept so I wouldn't rule it out as something we might implement at some time down the road. For now, we'll stick with he single point system and trust that those who don't stay active will eventually be surpassed by those who do. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

GCode says: "I suppose my question is, can I feel secure that if I give these users a no trust with a good reason and they will not just give me a no trust right back at me just to get me back?"

If you feel strongly about this, then you can always submit your rating as anonymous. Though as you've seen, that kind of rating isn't well received by some. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

This was addressed when we made the last change to the Trust Rating system.

Sorry but, if the negative trust rating came with a reason, it stays.

Users (anonymous or not) are under no obligation to engage in a back and forth discussion regarding their trust ratings. We think it's great if they do, but it's certainly not a requirement nor reason to remove their rating(s). Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

You can sometimes avoid your password being guessed (hacked) by others by selecting a more cryptic password. Any time you use a single word or proper noun as a password, you're just begging for it to be hacked. While it'a bit of a pain having to remember a more cryptic password, it will often mean they skip your account and hack the password for the next guy.

Also, though it should be common sense, don't use the same password on more than one site.

Just a thought to help you avoid this type of thing. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Me, I don't really have a few favorites. I couldn't even narrow it down to a few dozen. See, I'm an avid movie watcher and have a pretty big collection. I like different ones based a lot on what mood I'm in or what's going on around me at the time. I like different movies for different things ... this one the acting .. that one the story ... maybe another for the overall feeling the movie leaves me with.

Some of the ones I really like (read: watch again and again) have been mentioned here already. For example:
The Matrix (the first one)
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Kill Bill (both)
The Unforgiven
Die Hard
Aliens (own the boxed set)
Lake Placid
Joe Versus the Volcano
Jesus Christ Superstar (mainly for the music, I suspect)
... just to highlight a few.

Then there's another batch that I haven't seen mentioned ... some being very old ones.

Lost Horizon
Mid-Mummer's Night Dream (1935 version w/ Micky Rooney as Puck)
Prospero's Books (loose adaptation of The Tempest)
Taming of the Shrew (Talyor/Burton)
Yojimbo
Seven Samurai

And still a few others I enjoy again and again ...

The Princess Bride
13th Warrior
Gladiator (love the opening scene)
V for Vendetta (watch every Nov 5th)
Meet Joe Black
Armageddon
The 5th element
The Last Boy Scout
Practical Magic

... and the list could go on and on. See what I mean about me being an avid movie watcher?

BTW, while I thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy were ok movies and agree, the special effects were fantastic ... I disagree with most that it closely followed the books. I'm a big fan of the book and have to agree with the screen-writers when they said something to the effect, "Tolkien would roll in his grave to see the changes we made". IMO, if you really want to enjoy the story, get a copy of the unabridged audio books.

As an aside ...
While I liked the StarTrek, "Wrath of Khan", I'm not as enamored with it as some would think. Probably because I adopted my nom de' plum from Genghis Khan many years ago (that's another story for another day).

Now, aren't you sorry you asked? ;) Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Hey guys, just need to chime in here ...

First and foremost, we appreciate Denner's candor for asking how his specific case fits in with our terms. People of lesser integrity would have just kept their mouths shut and submitted what they wanted.

For the record, we do have a policy that we will not accept Reviews based on free access. I don't see that policy changing in the foreseeable future. On several occasions we've mentioned some of our reasoning for the policy so I won't repeat them here. Suffice it to say we feel strongly that it's in the best interest of PornUsers.

Please understand, we can understand the reasoning that certain users can give an honest review regardless if their access was free or not. We're not questioning anyone's personal integrity. However, we'd ask that you see it from our perspective. We simply can't have rules that apply to *most* users but that certain users can ignore. It goes against the whole spirit of keeping things fair and above-board.

To address this specific case ...
Because the free access was given after the initial review, we don't feel the need to pull the review. Had the review been made after the free access, we'd remove it. We do feel that posting a Comment based on the free access would be ok ... up to a degree .. and if the user discloses that they're basing their remarks on free access. However, we can't accept further Reviews for that site from that user. As far as "how long" you should hold off from posting about a site that gave you free access ... well, at least until you paid for access again.

Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know our "official" position on this one. Hope that answers any questions you may have had about what is and isn't allowed. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Yes, you're out of order. :)

Discussions of usenet and newsgroups here are inappropriate for two reasons.

1. If you'll look at our terms page, at the very top, the mission statement you'll see ...
PornUsers.com is dedicated to providing a friendly, unbiased site where those who actually buy memberships to adult pay sites can share their experiences, both good and bad.
... as we've pointed out many times, our site is not for free porn. Not for reviewing it and not for sharing it.

2. The vast majority of content found in the usenet is stolen. By that we mean it's infringing on the copyright owner's right to restrict access to content they produce. While it makes some feel better to say "shared" that doesn't change the facts. It is being distributed by someone who does not own the legal copyright to do so. We choose not to be associated with copyright infringement or those who promote it.

Well, for the time being (at least) we're not accepting any more Reviews for that site. See the notice at: https://www.pornusers.com/replies_view.html?id=32462

As noted, reviews by brand new users don't count towards a site's overall score. Also note that user who submit obviously biased reviews like we've seen don't earn points for them. Historically, we notice they don't usually hang around either.

Personally, I think it unlikely that they're all just suddenly finding PU from Google and feel compelled to submit a rave review. Situations like this is exactly why we don't push for webmasters to put links to PU on their sites. Early on we discovered that when webmasters send visitors they almost always submit one-sided reviews with little substance .... then never return.

For the most part, regular users using the Trust Rating system (this is actually the exact type of situation is was created for) will help raise caution flags to any new users who may come by and see the reviews.

Anyway, we know it's caused a bit of a disturbance this week and for that we do apologize. We're hoping the temporary suspension of new reviews will bring this unusual activity to an end.

As always, thanks for your continued support of PornUsers and for your understanding as we deal with these types of situations as they arise. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

robonerdo, please keep in mind that PornUsers isn't a site for sharing links to free porn. We're letting it go this time because you're new here. But please don't make it a habit.

I'd also agree with the user here who state that until/unless you're willing to pay for some site memberships, you're going to have a very limited perspective of what porn is available online.

If you just watch the movies at regular speed, you shouldn't see too much delay with playing them from the external drive. If you start to see some lag, or if you tend to fast-forward or skip ahead a lot, then you may see some improvement by tossing a copy to your regular drive just to play it.

I usually keep a temporary empty folder on my C: drive just for that purpose. I also keep one for downloads until they get moved to the external. Just the housekeeping that works for me. Most folks work out their own system. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Yes, if they gave a reason, then the no trust rating remains. Anon or not makes absolutely no difference.

We usually encourage users to give *good* reasons when they assign a no trust rating, however, for the most part, we take a "hands off" approach here. To do otherwise would end up with us censoring trust ratings.

Unfortunately, a fair number of users assign a Trust Rating based on a particular review w/out mentioning which review it was. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

TheSquirrel; you are, of course, welcome to believe what you will. I have a bit of an advantage because I can see who gave the negative votes and when. While I'd never say it's *impossible* for a webmaster to sneak in a trust rating, I will say that after doing some extensive digging into the trust ratings, I see absolutely no indication that's what we were seeing.

What I did find was that many (if not most) negative trust ratings could be seen to coincide (timing wise) with a user giving an excessively high (or very low) score on a review.

I mention all this not to be argumentive, but rather to let you (and other PU's) know we take integrity serious here.

We dropped the older anon ratings ... not because we suspected the system had been abused, but rather because it was consistent with the change we made last November.

If the recent change also gives you a warm-n-fuzzy that it'll now be harder for webmasters to sneak in a no trust rating, so much the better. :) Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

At the request/suggestion of our users, we took another look at some of the older Trust Ratings and decided to make a small change.

Back in Nov of 2007 we started requiring that No Trust ratings contain a comment. This was so the ratings could be constructive. At the time, we allowed all the older No ratings to stay, even if they didn't have a reason given.

Some time has passed since we made that change and we've decided that we'll drop all earlier No Trust ratings that do not carry a comment. So effective immediately, you may see a change to the total number of Trust ratings shown on your account.

Note we are *only* removing NO ratings that didn't have a comment. If it was an earlier YES rating or if the early NO rating had a reason, it will remain. We decided to leave the older YES ratings so no-one would suddenly lose a (hard earned) Trust badge.

If there is anyone who cast an anonymous No Trust rating earlier still wants to give a user a No Trust vote, they are welcome to recast their vote but will now be required to leave a comment with the reason.

We hope our users are happy with this change.

As always, thank's for your continued support of PornUsers.com Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

As kkman mentions, we used to list this site. However, looks like we purchased a membership for this site back in March of 2008 and discovered that all the pictures in member area were giving "access denied" errors. We wrote them about the problem but never got a response. Thus, we could not continue to list the site.

The TBP Editors tell me they'll go back and take another look. If the site has fixed its problems, we'll relist it. Just be aware it may take them a little while to handle this one. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

This isn't really the place to discuss your desire to sell your amature porn.

While there certainly no guarentee, there's a *very* good chance that if the back ports are USB2, then so are the front ports. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

As a public service announcement to those with wives, girlfriends, etc ...

Don't forget ... tomorrow is Valentine's Day!

Get her a card at least. Flowers, candy or dinner is even better.

... and for the young ones in the crowd (us older guys have usually learned this one the hard way) that sexy nighty is a gift for YOU ... not her. ;)

Today might be Friday the 13th but foget your lady on Valentines and tomorrow will be an unlucky day for you. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Denner, you may want to make a temporary folder on your main drive to save the files to when you initially download. Then move the file to the external at your leave. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

From Wikipedia: JPEG
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG

There is also an interlaced "Progressive JPEG" format, in which data is compressed in multiple passes of progressively higher detail. This is ideal for large images that will be displayed while downloading over a slow connection, allowing a reasonable preview after receiving only a portion of the data. However, progressive JPEGs are not as widely supported, and even some software which does support them (such as some versions of Internet Explorer) only displays the image once it has been completely downloaded.

Bolding is mine to point out the relevant statement.

Having your browser set to automatically resize images or for smart dithering *may* also be a factor in the browser needing to download the entire image before it can be displayed. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Probably not the problem but you may want to check that the hard drive you're saving to is not getting close to full. More specifically, that it doesn't need defragmenting. A badly fragmented drive can cause read/write slowdowns.

Also, if the noise is significantly more than the drive has been making in the past, it might be prudent to consider backing up that drive. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Well, we're trying to give Mandy the benefit of the doubt. She sent us an email saying she was hoping to be an active member of the community here but ... so far, it's just been promotion of her blog.

So, we're leaving it for now. You can rest assured, further plugs for the blog will be removed asap. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Mandy, please check your email.

The link you posted returns a 404 error but that's ok since in my last reply to you ( see https://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_thr...ad.html?threadid=495 ) I mentioned that it's not appropriate for you to use our forum to promote your blog.

Your participation here is welcome. The promotions are not.

Your anticipated cooperation is appreciated. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Not a problem .. was mainly just letting you know the thread existed in case you need it in the future.

Barring any snags, the editors should have the site added w/in the next few days. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Welcome to PornUsers.

I think this (or something like it) was actually answered once before ...
https://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_thr...ad.html?threadid=386

But to directly answer your question ...

An address is usually required as part of the credit card verification.

While I have no direct experience with Videobox, I've never received a piece of snail-mail from an adult site I've signed up for. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Yes, if you want to be extra careful then by all means, keep the external drive disconnected except when you're transferring files.

But even with that, if you used a local directory (on your regular computer) and then copied/moved that to the external once a week, it'd still be much easier (imo) than burning DVD's.

But hey, that's just me. I'm sure some other's will offer their 2¢ as well. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator
