SHIT, buddy
That's the kind of nightmare we all fear if some kind of - yes, asshole - as you put it - mess with cookies.
Jeeeez, sorry to hear it hit you.
And man, should we all take this as a very serious warning!
I'll stay away from this mess, for sure....

That's called a browser hijack, and can be very serious. If I were you I would run some anti-spyware/virus software ASAP. I would maybe suggest Adaware from Lavasoft, it's free, just do a search on it. Anytime I suspect a site is uploading some shit to my hardrive I immediately go for the power button.

Thanks for the tip! I'd never heard of browser hijack (though my old Win98 box got the auto-shutdown-restart thing a couple of years ago, even though I had virus software up to date on it). But that's total system hijack, then crash.

Thanks. You never know when a page could get an "infection," so to speak. Like I've been waiting for Sage Style to finally get his website going. It had been promoted, by way of enticing example, on Mindy Vega's site, but it never seemed quite ready.
Then one day I went and immediately a Trojan was caught by my antivirus and I never went back.
And the site has very little to show for the time it's been online. I've deleted the bookmark for it.

Well, to get rid of the auto redirect from the google page, I deleted all cookies (just trying whatever might work, starting there).
Then when I returned to the google page via my bookmark to it, it was altogether different, like a basic page before user customizing (putting news here, a calendar there, weather in another spot, etc.). I thought that my cookie deletion might have done that, but of course that's a result of having to deal with the bleeding unwelcome autoredirect.
But then I couldn't log in to google, so I did the password reset process, and voila, my custom page did return, so I didn't have to rebuilt it from scratch after all.
Does this make any sense?
Anyway, it was a pain in the ass.
