No, they're not doing "wrong." And what about those patrons? And the clubs? And the zoning boards? They all play a part in it.
Once I walked into a strip club in NYC. The door was just wide open and you could see the strippers lined up from the sidewalk. They were haggard looking. "Sleazy" came to mind, but I also felt kind of sorry for them.
But I've also been to strip clubs featuring nubile college girls. They were just making money and showing off their bods. Some were friendly and some were real bitches. The word "realism" comes to mind.

Doing wrong?.....
Not really.
There is good & bad in everything.
Other than that it is difficult to generalise, really.
If there wasn't a market, they wouldn't be doing it.

Sleazy, often. Doing wrong, usually not. When you see a dozen c-section scars in one night it really makes you think. I'm not in any position to judge others, but a part of me wishes there weren't strippers or porn stars for that matter.

Although both are subject to connotations of the person observing them, I think that whether they're sleazy or not, and whether they're doing right or wrong, are two separate issues.
I'm not a big fan of strip clubs and never have been. But I can't say I've never been in any. Over the years I've found myself in bars out in the sticks where the women looked like they crawled out from under a rock, jumped up on the bar and kind of moved around a little while they flashed some skin. I've also been to clubs in the city where the women were definitely hot as hell - well made up, dressed to thrill and obviously practiced in the art of what they do for a living. So, somewhere between the two of those is a line at which I think you could say it's sleazy.
But, whether it's right or wrong is a moral judgment. I think being a stripper is just a choice someone makes to earn a living. Others don't agree with me. I think they're flat out wrong, but that's their opinion.

No doubt some are sleazy but in my opinion most are not. When it comes to doing wrong, that too may depend on the circumstances, for instance if the stripping is threatening to hurt a relationship.
Is it wrong in general? I don't think so. If I did I would have to give up looking at Porn or feel like a hypocrite.

I guess that depends on what the strippers do. If it's limited to stripping then not but if it also involves doing other services then maybe be a little sleazy. I can't say that they are doing wrong since it's a legal job that requires you pay taxes.

I like good strip clubs. Crappy strip clubs suck, but good ones are quite a lot of fun. And great strip club dancers, like great entertainers of all sorts should be highly valued.
Are there depressing strip clubs? Fuck yeah!
Are there depressing porn sites? Fuck yeah!
Are there depressing shoe stores? Fuck yeah!
Are there really fun strip clubs, where you can see great, hot dancers and hot porn babes featuring? Fuck yeah!
Kind of amazing that 8% voted that strippers are wrong at a poll at a site such as this one - but that's people for you - fuck, at forums that are directed at strip club fans, there are probably a fair number of people that think strippers are all this or that.

As with any group there are some bad apples, but by and large they are busting their butt and doing good.
The process is that the girls must buy their way into the club and by doing so get an opportunity to make tip money showing off their remarkable assets.
It's a cash cow for both the club owner and the girls so by and large the bad apples are screwing the pooch if they are doing anything they shouldn't be doing.
If the question is a moral/social question rather than an integrity/honesty question, then I'll simply ask if the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are doing wrong when they wear their "eyepatch sized" shorts and wiggle their assets for a national TV audience?

Sleazy or doing wrong - no, hardworking - no either, I doubt its hard work.
At a lapdance club I visited in the UK, one of the chicks was encouraging physical contact and offered 'anything you like for the rest of the night' when her shift finished, at the expense of meeting her outside with £300 though. The club no doubt would have sacked her if they knew.

You doubt it's hard work to walk around for hours in crazy uncomfortable heels, dealing with really hot lights while on stage, trying to control a pack of guys, some of whom are drunk, some of whom are crazy and some of whom just think that they own women just because they paid their way into a strip club. Then they've got to look sexy and act like they're enjoying themselves with a variety of men that vary greatly in looks, attitude, hygiene and civility.
I think it's a damned hard job, one that I wouldn't be able to do, and I give full credit to those that do it well as a result.
Do some dancers use strip clubs as an opportunity for outside escort activity - sure. That's not even uncommon. Some clubs are fine with that, most clubs are not.

There is bouncers at the clubs to deal with drunken guys. Gropers will be slung outside. With taking their clothes off, at least the hot lights will be easier to bear. Walking around with uncomfortable heels might be difficult, but I wouldn't class it either stressful, mentally taxing or hard labour. Many other professions are more hardworking IMO.
Its up to the individual whatever career they wish to pursue, but at the end of the day they are just taking their clothes off for money, however way it is jazzed up.

Some clubs have a lot of bouncers, some have few - the one that I go to has security, but they only get involved in extreme situations, other than that it's up to the dancers to deal with, which also means less "suits" for the dancers to tip out to at the end of their shifts - and even clubs with security, you have dancers giving lap dances and nude private shows to guys - so most situations are still up to them. As to the heat - You don't know what you're talking about it until you've experienced it.
Dealing with the public - especially in an intimate way - is always going to be stressful and mentally taxing. Clearly the women that do it choose it, so I'm not saying that they need some public service awards, but they deserve acknowledgement for doing a challenging job well.

REPLY TO #12 - PinkPanther :
The only ones that deserve any real praise are the pole dance champions, they have got some flexability and skills.
The only clubs I have visited are when I am back in the UK, not been to many and obviously not the same climate. Its a no touch rule and the private shows are watched on cam. I still can't imagine the heat could be that excruciating what with air con etc. No worse than a chef in a kitchen.
Pulling people out of a fire is what I consider intense heat under pressure. Being in the military, medical or a high corperate position is a stressful job. The list could go on and on of other occupations more stressful, skillful or worthy of praise than a backstreet stripper. Getting your tits out and having people shove dollar bills between them, doesn't seem hard work to me.
I get your point, praise someone that does a challenging job well. I don't consider stripping sleazy or wrong, just that line of work is not my definition of a challenging job. No doubt a stripper would say otherwise. Similar to the pornstars that strut round like they are important hollwood superstars, when all they do really is get fucked on film for a living.
We both have different views on this subject. We are just going to have to disagree on it.

I don't see why it should be considered wrong.
