I cancel most memberships after a month and those I like I'll come back to. For the very few that I keep recurring memberships to the main factor is price. If the price is right, or especially if there is a discount for recurring memberships, I'll consider staying long term. The second factor is that I usually only do that with smaller sites so I can help support them as they grow.

First of all if there are no download options I never join that site. Second, the discount for multi-month membership would have to be amazing. Say 30$ a month or $60 for a year. Then I would join for a year.
But let me say there is a lot of room for improvement for websites if they want multi month members. Live shows is a novel idea. But I have never signed up for multi month for live shows. I think every website needs some super exclusive content that updates regularly for only year long subscribers. This would change their business model and would offer something of value for the membership.
How could this be accomplished?
Example if you are a year long member you get to vote on the star the company hires, the positions, the level of sexual depravity. If companies produced 100 scenes a year of the most depraved content with actresses we choose that is only available to yearly members then I think I would sign up for this. I realize this is asking a lot but then again asking someone to sign up for multi month memberships is asking a lot too.

I tend to only keep a membership active long term if the quality of the updates is excellent and they have at least one update a week. Needless to say that if they have more than one than that is a major plus.

As usual I agree with Pat. If a site is loaded with great content, too much good stuff to download in a month, and it has a great discount for multi-month memberships, I will sign up after the first month.
Quality matters most and volume is second.

It's a subjective thing - basically if I find myself drawn to the site, I'll want my membership to continue. If I'm not drawn to the site, I'll let my membership lapse. Exciting content every day or so would definitely keep me around.
