The correct answer is "sometimes." Conversation is good to hear, as well as the physical slap of skin on skin.
Moans & groans, however, are so foolishly overdone that I turn down the sound if not totally off. I find most of the moaning and groaning simply bad acting and totally unreal....... seldom hear the quiet passion that is real and intense.... that I would listen to.

Most of my internet activity needs no sound so I usually cancel the speakers on my laptop.
However once in a while an intelligent looking babe looks like she's talking so i'll turn on the sound. But the oooh's aaah's, and other assorted noise is so overdone and bopring so sitting in silence works great for me.
Remember the good old days with a music track on porn videos?

My answer is "not anymore". Too many sites are streaming videos when I click to download.
On a side note, since we've been having trouble with Firefox working here on PU, the newest version of Firefox has a mute button on each tab you open. I've been using that function to stop any unwanted porn noises. Don't know how long its been on Firefox, but it works well

I surf with the speakers on and rarely regret that decision but I do agree that those sites that start a video all by themselves is annoying.

Have you ever watched a Spanish TV show with the sound off? Facial expressions are so exaggerated that it looks like somebody is eating nails! (No offense, I think it's a cultural acting thing...) Porn is often that way with the sound on OR off. With it on, you get an endless stream of ridiculous moans and "oh fuck"s. And with it off, the models and actors facial expressions either look like they are either running a hundred yard dash in the middle of the worlds longest yawn or in some serious pain.
The only sound I can tolerate and sometimes enjoy hearing is that low, gutteral, gritty "Unnnngh" sound when a woman or a man is actually coming. But that sound is all too rare.
Oh, and there are/were a few sites that create scenes where the model talks to you. Twisty's and Danni.com used to have these sets where the models would talk to you as though you were sitting there. (I just looked and they are not a separate category on Twisty's anymore but they are still there.) They were pretty awesome and worth having the sound on for.

I remember the music tracks. :-)
I can hear the saxophones and funky bass lines in my head.
There are some sites incorporate music well (I strongly recommend you check out New Girl POV), but I think now it's mostly used to cover up outdated/European porn.
