VR Updated please The technology has been around a few years now and has hopefully matured. I'm looking to get started and could use suggestions on equipment. Yes, there's been threads, but I was hoping to get the latest dirt. I'm mostly ignorant about this stuff and I apologize in advance for stoopid questions. I have a Mac. From what I can see the equipment is somewhat proprietary. It seems Oculus is only compatible with Windows. Any thoughts - mid end to high end gear? For those who have been immersed in the VR world, is it worth it?

HI THERE, I AM A SELF-STYLED VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERT ... EXTRAORDINAIRE! There is currently no VR support on Apple/Mac products, though the company is planning on bringing their tech up to speed vis-a-vis VR compatibility. You should check out this site ... I use it all the time ... vrpornsites.xxx It's probably the most comprehensive adult VR review site on the net, with nearly a hundred reviews of adult VR pay sites PLUS reviews of VR headsets and blogs and the like. You can bet that the second there's a Mac compatible VR headset, there'll be a review of it there. Now, as to whether or not VR is worth it. The short answer is, yes! You should to understand how it works first. VR is basically a 3D video + a 180°- 360° field of view that's facilitated with state of the art head tracking. So it's pretty cool! That being said, not all headsets will deliver the same experience. And VR's not only good for porn, but it's also awesome for gaming and various learning experiences. Plus there's other little peripheral developments to consider like teledildonics, haptic appliances & even nerve implants! Feel free to ask any more questions. VR is my life! -D

This article is a bit old, but it claims that the HTC Vive will be compatible with Macs with the new High Sierra update. https://www.cnet.com/news/htc-vive-virtu...y-high-sierra-apple/ Though, I tried finding user testimonials and was unable to. So who knows? You don't understand. A garage. I can't even pull in there. It's like going to a prostitute. Why should I pay, when if I apply myself, maybe I could get it for free?- George Costanza

I had no idea there's no VR for Mac. Jason33, I checked out the HTC and it does look like it is compatible after you jump through lots of hoops. Hoop jumping is not my thing -). In my research, it appears that Apple (along with Microsoft and Google) is developing AR, or augmented reality. If you believe the hype, it's going to be a better technology than VR. There are iPhone apps for AR available now with the just-released OS11, but I want a computer headset. However, I'm guessing it will be quite a while before it's ready for prime time.

At this point I'm with Jook in that VR seems cool and at some point I'll be interested in it but at the moment it's not not quite ready for prime time. First, I'd have to upgrade my computer which wouldn't be a bad thing, just money I don't want to spend at the moment. Phone based VR seems a bit limited at this point and in order for the experience to be good I'd have to dump a lot of $$ into a top end phone. Since I'm not someone who uses their phone to watch much video that doesn't strike me as a great use of money. Second, as an old timer I don't want to get trapped into the whole "VCR vs. Beta" saga where you have to put your chips on one pile and hope it becomes industry standard. This seems less likely to happen with VR since it seems to me to translate across multiple platforms but I still don't want to get stuck with the VR hardware/platform from a manufacturer who ends up bailing on the industry leaving me without updates and unsupported products that then quickly become obsolete. I guess I've grown out out of the phase where I want to be an early adapter and instead want something that works well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Maybe my fears are unfounded but so far VR seems to appeal mostly to the gamer crowd and is just starting to get a foothold in porn. Until more entertainment or practical applications appear I don't see myself getting on the band wagon ... in the mean time I'll be sitting here in the Model T lane.

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-41590323 Interestingly enough, apparently they aren't jumping on the VR bandwagon over at Apple... I have to say that the reason their CEO gives is mighty pretentious, though. He thinks that it is very isolating technology. After all, I've already seen people almost step in front of oncoming traffic while being too preoccupied by whatever was happening on the screen of their iPhones. So I am not sure VR is any worse or any better when it comes to people losing touch with what's going on around them. And if Pokeman GO is any indication, AR could prove destructively distracting from the run-of-the-mill real-world reality. It has also had individuals running into traffic and apparently being lured into bad neighborhoods where they've been robbed.

Caveat...while I love Apple products and own enough of them, I am not a fanatic who believes they are the second coming. Having said that, I don't find Apple's position with VR pretentious at all. They've always been cautious. Their products are well-thought out, even if many of them were bombs. Along with Microsoft and Google, they have been developing AR technology for a while. While I have never experienced VR, the premise of being 100% immersed in it and unaware of the world around me, scares me. I am withholding judgment until I can see the final product. There must be something compelling about AR if all the giants are involved.

Ive been user VR for a few months now. What I found is quality means everything. This is where HD matters and clear clean good lenses with great eye protection matter. The average porn scene is around 20-30 minutes which is at the end of the suggested limit of use without a break. I am not talking these hard core gamers who stay on hours at a time. Unless you can afford the 2000K units that allow them to be worn without strain to the eyes this is the doctors suggested exposure. I found droids do a good job at VR viewing allowing one to spend more on goggles. I got in on beta testing goggles and I can say they vary allot from set to set. The biggest issue I have seen is comfort and lens quality some look cool but fit like knives in your head and some are glasses friendly and some you can't wear. I have not seen much on the way of macs simply because they applications and codec seem to be the issues with comparability and many are not wanting to plunk down making thinks work on MAC not now anyways. I'VE READ SOME ARTICLES THAT CLAIM VR IS ALREADY PAST ITS PRIME, AND THAT AR IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE. SORT OF LIKE CDs, THEN DVDs, AND NOW WE HAVE THE CLOUD, SO CDs AND DVDs ARE ONLY GOOD FOR COASTERS TO PROTECT YOUR GLASS/WOOD TOPS FROM CONDENSATION. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH EITHER VR OR AR, BUT I'M HOPING THEY WILL HIT MAINSTREAM SOON, WHILE I CAN STILL ENJOY THEM.

From MacLife... Augmented reality (AR) offers much more than Pokémon Go style entertainment. It promises exciting new options for delivering context-relevant information… as well as new ways of having fun with your tech, like the Selfie Scenes options on the iPhone X, which we talked about a couple of weeks ago. You remember — they use the front-facing camera to composite you into virtual environments, such as the interiors of the Millennium Falcon from “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.” Now we’re hearing a rumor that Apple has acquired an AR company called VRvana, which has crowdfunded (though not yet shipped) a camera-based headset that mixes virtual reality and AR experiences. This rumor rings true. We know that Apple’s ARKit has been with developers since WWDC, and Apple connected the importance of that to the A11 Bionic chip in iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X. This latest acquisition seems to suggest that Apple is not only serious about AR but is determined on ramping up its strategy over the long term. We’ve seen fads come and go, and it’s notoriously difficult to predict what will turn out to be “the next big thing.” But we’re already seeing what is effectively a proof of concept for AR in iPhone X. Combine all this with Sir Jony Ive’s comments about iPhone X doing a lot more in a year than it does now, and it feels like we’re in for a treat over the next year – and maybe beyond.
