The 50th anniversary of the internet is coming up. Pu must invite Al Gore, the father of the internet, to attend a special ceremony where all PU members in good standing can attend to honor the man who changed the course of history by making excellent porn available to the public at reasonable rates. Before the internet, a VHS or DVD copy of a single film might cost $90 or more. Now, we can join sites that hold thousands of videos for as little as $1 a day, or $30 per month. Let us raise our glasses in a toast to the father of the modern internet, Al Gore, The internet's 50th birthday: anniversary of Arpanet The internet, simultaneously the greatest aid and hindrance to productivity in history, turns 50 next week – sort of. Arpanet, its precursor, sent its first message on 29 October 1969. On 29 October 1969, two letters – LO – were typed on a keyboard in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and appeared on a screen at the Stanford Research Institute, 314 miles away. The computer scientists had intended to type LOGIN, but the connection was lost just before the G. Nonetheless, this was the first time a message had been sent over a telephone line between two computers. It was not called the internet – that name was not coined for another five years. It was called Arpanet, for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, and was developed by scientists in the US Defense Department. Nor was it the World Wide Web – that was created by the British scientist Tim Berners-Lee, now Sir Tim Berners-Lee, at Cern, the Geneva physics laboratory that now houses the Large Hadron Collider, 20 years ago in March. And email had existed for a few years before that, between different terminals on single mainframes; the first true email sent between different computers was not sent until 1971.

As a millenial, the oldest computer I've ever known is the Windows 98 so yeah, this is all dinosaur technology for me! But hey, I do remember the years where if a phone call came in, the Internet would just shutdown.

I know that the foundations of the internet were laid some 50 years ago, but it wasn't until the mid 1990s that internet usage became mainstream. I graduated college in December of 1994, and the extent of the internet was being able to look up the titles of some books in the library across town (at UCLA). May 16th: Today is the anniversary of the Battle Of Albuera. A combined force of British, Portuguese and Spanish beat a French Army. The Spanish Army held against a superior force of French advancing on their flank to win the day. Warning Will Robinson

Perhaps you can send private emails to the major porn sites informing them of this victory, in the hope they will declare special holiday discounts to PU members. If they can give porn discounts for Mother's day and other special events, a discount for victory in battle seems reasonable.
