Sage Steele, one of the finest reporters in the world, has revealed there are questions about Barack Obama.
Why is Barack Obama identified as black?

ESPN personality Sage Steele created a controversy with comments about former President Barack Obama identifying as “Black” on the recent census.

Steele, appearing on the “Uncut with Jay Cutler” podcast, discussed racial identity and expressed an issue with having to identify as a single race, because she self-identifies as biracial.

“If they make you choose a race, what are you gonna put? Well, both,” said Steele, who’s African-American and Irish/Italian.

When she was told “Barack Obama chose Black and he’s biracial,” Steele took a swipe at the 44th president’s upbringing.

“Well, congratulations to the President, that’s his thing,” she said. “I think that’s fascinating considering his Black dad is nowhere to be found, but his white mom and grandma raised him, but okay. You do you. I’m gonna do me.”

I didn't know that Irish or Italian was considered a race.
I was born in Los Angeles.
Can I say that I am of the Los Angeles race?
Or the California race?
Or the Western United States race?

Steele added, “Listen, I’m pretty sure my white mom was there when I was born. And my white family loves me as much as my Black family.”

So Steele congratulated Obama for saying he was black (was that sarcasm?), but said he had a white mother. And that his black father was nowhere to be found.

However, I've read that according to current writing rules, if you write "Black" for race, that is correct. But if you write "white" for race, that is correct. Black race is capitalized, but white race is not capitalized.
Seems like strange rules.

I was born in Los Angeles.
Can I say that I am of the Los Angeles race?
Of the Southern California race?
Of the PU race (since I'm a member of the PU site)?
