Infinity War--The one movie we have been waiting for all year.

I know that the year is not finished.
But the anticipation is dreadful.
Will Infinity War be as good as fans are hoping for?

Find out tomorrow, or this weekend.

The truth is, I'm not the biggest fan of comic book movies.
I think there are better movies out there, at times.

But I'm thinking of seeing Infinity War.

The last superhero movie I really enjoyed was Captain America, with Chris Evans.
The story was simple: origin story about how a dedicated, loyal American became a powerful hero fighting for America in WW11.
Simple story, easy to follow.
Not a lot of characters, so it was easy to root for the hero, who has his ups and downs.
The inventions were marvelous: submarine, plane, whatever.
And an Evil Villain, with an Evil henchman.

I didn't care for the follow-up movie about Captain America, because now it's the hero fighting against evil, greedy Americans.
(Sort of a reflection of today's America.)

But maybe I will enjoy Infinity War.
I'm hoping that the Evil Villain will finally prevail, and we can start again, with new characters that I can root for.

Any PU members plan to see this movie, this weekend or soon?
Or is everyone else overdosed on superhero movies, like I seem to be.
Though I did enjoy Wonder Woman. That was a good action flic.

Probably not. I did enjoy the first two Spiderman and the later Batman films. I was also a into reading some of the X-Men series. They had more in-depth plots then other comics I read, but I was disappointed in the films. So I am hot and cold when it comes to superhero films. Warning Will Robinson

I think I'd rather watch Naruto

But for American comics, I think the Marvel shows on NetFlix are not bad. Dare Devil in particular I think is good and they have a lot more content than a movie.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Heads to Monster $225+ Million Opening Weekend
By Rebecca Rubin

In case you haven’t heard, “Avengers: Infinity War” is heading towards an opening weekend that could end all opening weekends.

The Marvel superhero adventure is eyeing a debut weekend of $225 million to $245 million, with a possibility of even crossing the $250 million mark. If numbers reach the end of that range, “Infinity War” could have one of the biggest debuts of all time. The hefty launch should go a long way to justify its wildly expensive price tag of somewhere from $300 million to $400 million.

As of now, the biggest opening weekend of all time belongs to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which bowed with $248 million in 2015 and went on to make over $936.6 million domestically. Only five films in history have hit the $200 million mark in their debuts.

“Infinity War” picks up two years after the events of “Captain America: Civil War” with the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop the evil Thanos from inter-galactic dominance. The heroic ensemble cast includes Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Chris Pratt’s Star Lord, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

Joe and Anthony Russo directed from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. “Infinity War,” the sequel to 2012’s “The Avengers” and 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” is the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The original “Avengers” had the highest opening to date for a Marvel film, debuting with $207.4 million. Its sequel, “Age of Ultron,” launched with $191 million. The first movie earned $623 million in North America, while the second made $459 million.

“Infinity War” comes on the coattails of the Disney-owned Marvel’s most recent success, “Black Panther,” which opened to a massive $202 million in February. Ryan Coogler’s tentpole continues to shatter records, and has earned an impressive $1.3 billion worldwide.

My friends are all very enthusiastic about "Infinity War" and I don't care. I don't see every Marvel movie, as most of them are the same.

I'm pretty sick of Disney and what they've done to both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

Where is Victor Von Doom when we need him?
He is the perfect, all-powerful Villain that would consume with great relish the bodies of his fallen enemies: the Fantastic Four.
And maybe von Doom would gain their superpowers while scarfing them down.
Great taste, great powers, great satisfaction.

I do not see Doom listed in the superheroes appearing in the Avengers: Infinity War movie.
Why not?

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Closes in on All-Time Domestic Weekend Record
By Rebecca Rubin

UPDATED: To nobody’s surprise, “Avengers: Infinity War” is already off to a record breaking start.

The Marvel powerhouse looks to open in North America with $250 million from 4,474 locations, which would land it the highest domestic debut of all time. This number could fluctuate when an official tally comes in on Monday.

That would be enough to surpass previous title holder “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which bowed with $248 million in 2015 and went on to make over $936.6 million domestically.

“Infinity War” joins the company of “The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Jurassic World,” “The Avengers” and “Black Panther” as one of six films in history to cross the $200 million mark in their debuts.

The latest superhero title scored the highest opening for a Marvel film, surpassing the original “Avengers'” opening of $207.4 million. Its sequel, “Age of Ultron,” launched with $191 million.

“Infinity War” comes on the heels of the Disney-owned Marvel’s most recent success, “Black Panther,” which opened to a massive $202 million in February. Ryan Coogler’s tentpole continues to shatter records, and has earned an impressive $1.3 billion worldwide.

The 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought Marvel’s worldwide tally to $15 billion. “The Avengers,” “Age of Ultron,” “Black Panther,” “Iron Man 3,” and “Captain America: Civil War” each surpassed $1 billion globally.

Joe and Anthony Russo directed “Infinity War,” which picks up two years after the events of “Captain America: Civil War” and sees the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop the evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) from inter-galactic dominance. The lineup of heroes include Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Chris Pratt’s Star Lord, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

Venom, with Tom Hardy, is coming.
He's not as powerful as Dr. Doom.
Not as evil as Dr. Doom.

But maybe he will be another anti-hero to root for.
Let us hope.

^^It actually opened to $250 millions in North America and $380 millions everywhere else for a grand total of $630 millions thereby braking both the Domestic and Worldwide records. Long live the Brown Coats.

Elizabeth Olsen slams revealing 'Avengers' costume: 'I would like to cover up a bit'
Fox News 12 hours ago

There are many things Elizabeth Olsen enjoys about her character in "Avengers: Infinity War" but her costume is not one of them. Olsen says Scarlet Witch's plunging corset isn't exactly what she pictured the superhero wearing. And if she could, Olsen said she would "tweaK" the costume a bit.

"It would just not be a cleavage corset. I like corsets, but I'd like it to be higher. Everyone has these things that cover them — Tessa Thompson does, Scarlett does. I would like to cover up a bit," Olsen told ELLE magazine on Friday.

The corset doesn't exactly portray modern women, Olsen argued, though she admitted she understands why female superheroes are dressed a certain way on camera.

"I think of the costumes and what we have to wear — it’s more about iconic images, because that's what these movies are.... I think that's the goal with the costumes, and it's not representing the average woman," Olsen continued.

However, the 29-year-old admits she has to laugh when she scans the set with her mostly covered up co-stars.

"I look around and I'm just like — 'Wow, I'm the only one who has cleavage,' and that's a constant joke because they haven't really evolved my superhero costume that much," she added.

Though she would love a slightly more conservative costume, Olsen said she doesn't have any complaints, especially when it comes to working with Marvel — which, she says, promotes diversity.

"It's almost like they're not trying to slap anyone over the head with it, but they recognize that they have such a huge platform, and they're using it to be as inclusive as they can with their storylines and representing the world," Olsen said. "That's why [Black] Panther felt like such a huge thing in culture, and they're aware of it, and their goal is to not make the same stories that have happened over and over and over again."

I just saw AVENGERS: Infinity War.

The most powerful and evil character of them all, Hela, played by Cate Blanchett, did not appear in the movie.

Why not?

Was Disney afraid that she would conquer the multi-universe, crush Thanos beneath her feet, and rise to become the Eternal Goddess?

Shame on Disney, for leaving out the most powerful, female character of all time.

^I guess you didn't see Thor: Ragnarok because she was killed in that movie. I saw Infinity War and I think I'm done with the whole Marvel Universe movies. At this point I only hope that we never see Guardians of the Galaxy in any future Marvel movies because while I know they share the same universe. The first two Guardians movies felt like stand alone movies instead of a continuing narrative that is the Marvel Universe. That said I know I am shit out of luck because Infinity War has already reached the billion dollar mark and it's not the first but to my count the fifth MU movie to do so. Long live the Brown Coats.

I did see Thor: Ragnarok.
I'm not an expert on Comic Book movies.
But my impression is:
Characters can be killed, and then re-appear in a new movie, sometimes with an explanation of how they are still alive, or were re-born, or were "re-animated", or whatever story is used to explain how they are still alive.
Or-skip the explanation: they are alive.
Comics are full of contradictions, and most fans accept that consistency (internal, succeeding, whatever) has little or nothing to do with comics.

Agent Coulson, who is not even a god or immortal, was killed.
Then he came back to life.

You could say Hela was killed in Thor: Ragnarok.
Or you could say that Asgard was destroyed.
But was Hela destroyed?

Only Marvel can know the true, ultimate fate and facts of Hela's story.
And they can tell the story, then re-imagine it, however they want.

My vision: Hela, the immortal, can be destroyed, possibly. But she has married Death, and each death will only make her stronger.

And here is a fact: Hela has died before, and came back to life.
So: dead is dead, but not really: especially in Comic Book movies.

I've got to say that this was the most depressing superhero movie I've ever seen. I don't mind a movie where SOMEONE I like dies - but it seems to be a new trend where film-makers are killing off tons of the good-guy characters. This is happening on TV shows too, like The Crossing.

Maybe it's a response to The Trump years.

^You know what is even more depressing. This is only part one or what may be two more parts and you know that while some of the characters have to comeback because Guardians 3 is currently filming and Black Panther 2 is about to start filming. Many other characters that we have come to enjoy won't or worse will die a second time.

At this point the only superhero movies I want to watch are those that aren't part of the MCU/DC Universe. Which means none because they all are. I had huge hope that Guardians would avoid that trap but alas it was not mean to be so unless Disney/Marvel comes out with a statement that from now on Guardians will still be part of the MCU Universe but they won't pair them with any other MCU franchise. If they don't do that then I will not watch another one of their movies. Long live the Brown Coats.

I thought Wonder Woman was a pretty good movie.
Enjoyable, with not too complicated plot lines.
I liked it much better than Infinity War.
But that's just me.

I spoke with a number of people who really enjoyed Infinity War.
But not me.

Actually, as I said, I don't really appreciate most Comic Book Movies.

But I did enjoy the first Captain America, and the first Wonder Woman.

I hope the sequel to Wonder Woman will be good.
But that remains to be seen.

I didn't like the sequel to Captain America.
Because instead of fighting the Nazis in part 1, in part 2, he is fighting evil Americans.

Maybe, like PinkPanther wrote: "Maybe it's a response to The Trump years."

I absolutely loved Captain America. It was by far the best origin story I have ever seen. It greatly benefited from being the fifth Marvel Universe movie and technically the third origin story Marvel made and in many ways was the beginning of the end of my love affair with Marvel movies.

The only three exceptions are the first Avenger movie but the fact that Joss Whedon directed it has a lot to do with why I enjoyed it (I didn't like the second Avenger movie). The other two exceptions are The Guardian movies but in many ways these never felt like they were part of the Marvel Universe(until Infinity War) and that was great but I honestly don't know if I will even be able to enjoy that series now that Marvel had to join them with the rest of their franchises.

I really liked Wonder Woman but it was because unlike the previous DC Universe movies. It was moderately more upbeat. I mean who the f..k makes Superman into some kind of bad guy? I kind of liked Justice League because again it tried to be more upbeat so hopefully this is a trend that follows all other DC Universe movies. Long live the Brown Coats.

I've really enjoyed the Marvel Universe movies, for the most part. The newest Thor movie was enjoyable, but had problems of "tone" - it kept trying for Guardians-of-the-Galaxy type humor, which didn't fit with Thor for me at all.

I love the Guardians movies. I hope they don't mess them up.
