Save login/password Firefox Help! A bit embarrassing - had some pc-trouble - and always used Netscape for TBP/PU and pornsites - because of two things: 1) You can watch videos WHILE downloading - (and skip what you do not like along the way) - ok, you can do that too at Firefox, but: 2) Netscape always asked you to save login/password - easy! BUT: I can't find out how to do the same with the login/password at Firefox - hate to write/look up those words/numbers EVERY time I login on a site.... Anybody? Here's what I find with Firefox. If I have joined a site for the first time since I have used Firefox to browse the site, when I first log-in using Firefox, I enter the username/password and in the upper portion of the browser window, an inquiry will appear - Remember the log-in info for this site? and I can click on "Remember" or "Never". If I click on "Remember", it will remember the info. The problem is that if a membership lapses and I then join again with a different username/password, I haven't been able to get Firefox to save the new information and I find that I have to enter that information every time

Firefox is great when it comes to remembering passwords. (see above) The nice thing is that I can tell it to delete my cookies and history when exiting (I haven't dared trying "private browsing") yet it still keeps all my passwords. I also have protection from snooping eyes by using a master password. The way I have my browser set up is this way: home page iGoogle which requires a sign in. After the first time Firefox will remember and all I require is my master password to get to my personalized iGoogle. I then use the "My Passwords" feature of iGoogle to put in the url and name of the site I just subscribed to and since Firefox remembers all the passwords of my subscribed sites, all I have to do when I visit is to click on their names under "Passwords." Visitors to my computer only get a generic iGoogle Home Page not my private customized one because they lack my password. I never had any difficulties re. expired accounts because I delete them from Firefox passwords the moment I am done with them and when I re-subscribe Firefox invariably asks me do I wish to remember the password etc. without any hassle.

As messmer suggested, you may delete stored passwords in Firefox by going to "Tools" > "Options..." > "Security" > "Stored passwords...". You get then a list of all your passwords and you may also search for a particular site by name or login. Deleting stored passwords once the mebership expires always does the trick.

The above are all good info on getting Firefox to remember passwords. It's a feature that I really love. (Of course, you have to make it forget them, too, if you return later to most sites.) There is one glitch that I've run into sometimes, but I have a workaround for it. The glitch is when you get a live url to the member's area from the signup confirmation, such as at ccbill. Sometimes I've clicked to go to member's from there and had Firefox "remember," but it wouldn't "remember" when I returned to the site from its own login page. The solution is probably obvious: Log in, from the first time, at the site itself. So I always keep the site's homepage waiting in a separate tab or window for that first, delicious login. Mind you, that won't always be enough at every site. Some have multiple layers of logins: one for the site, one for galleries, one for videos, etc. OnlyTease (actually, all of the bloody "Only" sites) and MyPreciousVirgins are two examples. But just have Firefox "remember" each time and you'll probably only have to cut/paste the logins those times. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. I'll print the above and try things out. Thank you, all! "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I'm sure most people would hate to look up/write a password to most sites. There are some free programs that are supposed to create and store unique passwords for each site, but I've never used any of them. I use Firefox as my browser, because I've heard too many horror stories about the poor security of IE. The first time you log onto a site that requires a password, Firefox will ask if you want Firefox to remember the password. The options are (this is from memory, so it's not the exact wording): 1. save the username/password 2. not now for save the username/password 3. never for save the username/password I either select "save the username/password", which means firefox will automatically enter them for that site in the future; Or I select "not now for save the username/password", which means that firefox will ask me the 3 options each time I go to that site. Very rarely, I choose the "never for save the username/password". I do that for sensitive sites like a bank or credit card, where I don't want the information (username/password) stored on my PC, because I believe there are expert hackers out there that can possibly get information from my PC even though I run a firewall and anti-virus program. I use my PC at home, it's a desktop, but I've read stories where hackers can get your credit card information or bank information and really mess you up.

Thanks for giving me the solution to this problem, which I have found vexing. Firefox has it all over IE in being able to resolve these kind of issues.

I must say that I love Firefox over any other browser I have tried. Explorer is a joke and can be extremely frustrating to use, especially with regards to security. It's like the program has an attitude of "I guess I can delete personal information if you want" instead of doing automatically when you quit the browser. I have also tried Google's Chrome, and I have to say I prefer the metal to the browser. It's not much better than IE, and can't compete with Firefox either. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? IE lacks the ability to use a master password which is very important to me. Its "private browsing" feature may delete cookies and history etc. but it also deletes all passwords. So, I'll stick with Firefox when it comes to protecting my privacy.

The big reason I like Firefox is because the first time you put in a login and password for any type of site, it asks you if you want it to remember this for future uses and always works afterwards. The only sites I ever have to type in info for now are sites with the pop-up login

That's why I hate these stupid 'private browsing' modes. The majority of the time I don't want to erase absolutely everything, just some things. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I haven't even tried Private Browsing in the latest Firefox yet because I'm scared that it, too, might get rid of my passwords. So I stick with the tried and true and have it erase my browsing history and the latest cookies when I close it down.
